little mouseketeer

M-I-C-K-E-Y-M-O-U-S-E

Madison doesn't know the song but she can tell you she had Mickey ears. I am so glad this photo turned out well as you can see her little hands were moving, this child doesn't stand still for long.

Pluto

Saturday morning, February 23rd, we had breakfast with the characters at the restaurant in our hotel, the Regal Sun Resort. Madison got to meet Goofy and Pluto but Goofy came out while we were eating and we didn't have the camera ready for a photo so we don't have photo evidence.

Madison was borderline scared, shocked and excited. She wasn't so sure about being touched by a life size cartoon or giant to her. She did play around with Pluto though and give him high fives and kisses on his nose. Pluto even gave her a big dogie kiss with his tongue, along with a big "slurp". It was very cute.

Play-Doh Fun

Today we cracked open the jumbo barrel of fun play-doh that Madison got for her birthday. I was impressed she stayed interested in it for over an hour, we played together with the cutters and presses and she even let me walk away to switch out loads of laundry. Thanks to my thinking out of the box the unopened highchair splat mat made a great table cloth for the side table that Madison uses in the living room. I am so glad that she had so much fun, that was a great purchase.

Last night I was able to go out for a Girl Night Out with some of the ladies from my MOPS group, it was very casual, we just hung out at Erin's house. It was so nice to just sit and relax and have some interesting conversation without a child using you as a jungle gym. Our blog was also outed to more friends, so ladies if you are reading this, I promise this really isn't anything fancy and yes you too could do it too. I have really enjoyed getting to know you all of the last several months. Thanks for your fun adult conversation!

And for those of you who are saying why are you scrapping play-doh when you haven't finished birthday pictures, those are on the way too.

Magic Kingdom

Well we made it home safe and sound from the Magic Kingdom yesterday and I believe all of our shoes and gear has dried out by now. We got soaked but enjoyed our time anyways. We got to see lots of Madison's favorite characters and know lots of things to do differently next time. We got some cute pictures of Madison despite the wet weather too.

Thanks for all your birthday wishes Madison has enjoyed them all.

Happy Birthday Sweetheart!

Madison you are so precious to us and we thank God for what a special gift you are to us. Happy Birthday Sweetheart we can't believe we have already enjoyed two whole years with you.

Last night we celebrated Madison's birthday a little early with presents and a Backyardigan ice cream cake. Today when Chris gets home from work we will be driving to Orlando to take Madison for her first trip to Disney World and the Magic Kingdom. She probably won't remember it but we will definitely remember the joy on her face when she gets to meet her favorite characters face to face. To bad they don't have a theme park for Nick Jr. characters since Pablo is the ultimate favorite these days. I am sure we will have plenty of pictures to post from Disney as well as all the other birthday pictures.

Happy Birthday Big Girl!

not in our own understanding

I don't know if any of you fellow bloggers do this but every so often I find myself reading my own older postings to be reminded of how Madison is growing or how fast things in our lives really do change. I was never much of a diary girl or into journals really but I feel the need to use this post as a journal to plot a mile marker you might call it.

Today at lunch Chris came home with a shocker from work that we aren't quite sure how the details will pan out just yet. I think the honest and normal feeling to have is how is this going to affect me and my future. I find myself with a greater appreciation of the things that are not in my own understanding. God in His infinite wisdom doesn't see the need for me to get bogged down in the details. I know it is because He knows the real me and that I would analyze those details to death wondering well what if this had happened or this. So in my Bible study today Beth Moore "Stepping Up, the Psalms of Ascent" I truly feel that I have taken a firm step up and hopefully not one of those that you find yourself having to keep repeating like you are in the remedial grade school class for flunkies.

"We didn’t choose God, He chose us and appointed us to bear fruit - fruit that will last. Christ has given us our life experiences intended to turn into testimonies and ministries that help make the Savior irresistible to seekers."

Our experiences are not surprises to God he has intended them for his good. So I must keep my focus on producing the fruit that will last for eternity not the kind that I forget about on the kitchen counter until it is too black and squishy to do anybody any good. And when I do stumble because I am human and it is a given that I will, I have trust and faith that God will use my squishy black banana like self to make the most awesome banana bread for the good of his kingdom.

So for anyone that reads this, this post is so that the Bowers family can have another visible reminder that this day was a part of God's plan too just like all the others He has seen us through. Looking forward to the remember when.

First "Rosey"

Well I had to post this tonight so that it would have a Valentine's date on it. Madison got her very first rose today from her Daddy. Chris came home from work with red roses for me and one perfect peach rose for Madison. You could say she loved it to death. From the moment he handed her the rose still in its package she cried to hold it by herself. She exclaimed my first "rosey" how she knew to call it that I don't quite know. So she had to impatiently wait for me to unwrap and it cut it shorter, but no need really she had it snapped off just short enough for her in seconds. I did manage to get in a few quick photos please excuse the tears and runny nose that's what happens when you have a breakdown and a cold at the same time. I will post more photos later but though the grands would get a kick out of the "rosey" story.

Happy Love Day!

Well we have all been sick around here and it seems to still be lingering around but we couldn't let a special day like this pass us by. So here are some photos of Madison opening her gifts from Mommy and Daddy. She got a beanie baby and some candy. She then proceeded to take her pink hearts bear from Grammy and Grandpa and make it the mommy bear and the beanie bear the baby. She then arranged them nicely on her toy boy in the living room and said Daddy? Like so where is my daddy valentine’s bear. She definitely gets that from me, I would spend hours in my room arranging my dolls and role playing with them when I was little. Guess I always knew I would be a mom someday even though if you asked me then I would have told you no.

So to all our friends and loved ones Happy Valentine’s Day you are in our prayers.

We also want to welcome little Justin Andrew Skiles to the world he was born Monday morning and I have been waiting for pictures to post them. Justin welcome and we love you too little guy. Praying for you Donald, Catina, and big sister Alyssa.

edited to say: I will have to check into my slide it changed photos on me.

knock, knock

Ok, this is hilarious and I can't believe my child is already telling jokes. Madison loves the Backyardigans and she usually asks to watch Pablo, he is the one that is a blue and yellow penguin with a propeller hat on. She can name all the characters and wants you to look at each one as she points them out on the screen. One of the newer Backyardigans is about collecting the perfect items for the perfect cup of tea and it has a part where they trying to make this grumpy emperor laugh by doing all kinds of crazy things and then Uniqua tells him a joke to try and make him laugh and it’s a knock, knock joke, one we have all heard.

This is Madison's rendition

"Knock, Knock" as she knocks on my leg
So I says "Who's there?"
Madison = "nani" (aka Banana)
So I say "Banana who"
Madison = "Knock, Knock who's there Nani" not letting me answer back
Madison = "Knock, Knock who's there Orange"
Madison = "Knock, Knock who's there Pear"

Honestly this went on way longer than I am going to type it all out but it was just way too cute. I was so proud that she knew that pear could go in the joke even though that wasn't the way it went on the show. Too smart.

Princess in Training

As you can read above this is how I found Madison this morning when I came to check on her after my shower. She was quietly sitting in her reading chair with one of her books open in her lap. As she jumped up to greet me I could see that she had decided to accessorize her pajamas with a glitter tutu I bought on clearance. As we got her dressed she insisted on keeping the tutu on so since it wasn't that bad she got to put it back on over her clothes as we headed off to the grocery. It wasn't worth a fight and it reminded me of the times by brothers wanted to wear their boots with shorts during the summer in Texas. If she had boots she probably would have wanted to wear those too since she is a shoe-ahaulic, but the pink sequin flashing light shoes from Stride Rite went along rather fashionably. I now see that I have many days ahead of unique outfits from my almost 2 year old.

Super Bowl Party

We had a great crowd last night at our Super Bowl Party as we were the host home for the Young Adults as part of a special outreach event for our church. Counting the kids we think we had about 31. Chris grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, everyone brought sides and goodies, and we watched the game and devotional half time video on the big screen. It was so nice to have friends to share our home with. It did remind me of the fun times we had with our Birmingham crowd. Madison loved having her friends over and did a great job sharing her toys. I must say that on EST that was a late night for us not so young fools but Madison was a trooper. It is such a blessing that no matter where God sends us we always have friends in Christ.

God Bless.
