Snake in the garage

IMG_1749

IMG_1751

Well this afternoon I was opening the garage door to go and get something out of the car when I saw a big black snake right outside the threshold of the garage door.  I immediately started yelling Madison go back in the house there's a snake.  Of course I was in panic mode as it started coming in the garage.  I hit the garage door button again as fast as I could, I ended up trapping it half way.  Luckily Chris was on his way home and He was able to kill it.  Madison no longer thinks snakes are cool as it was nothing like the zoo.  When Madison saw the blood left over from the dead snake she said Mommy did our snake pee.  I said no honey that's blood cause Daddy killed the snake.  Then she said oh good, I don't like snakes.

Church Tragedy into Love Story

Engagement 01

I have a very special video clip to share with you all my friends and family members.  I am so very blessed and honored to have Rebekah as my sister and so excited to welcome Justin officially to my family in just a few weeks.  God truly is an awesome God to take such a horrible tragedy that is so closely tied to my family and turn it into such a beautiful love story, it still brings me God bumps (because there is nothing special about a goose).

So when you think you are in a situation that nothing good can possible come out of remember this video and know that God does have a plan for your life and “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose." [Romans 8:28]

Have a very blessed day.

Love and prayers,

Kim Bowers

Couple linked by Wedgwood church tragedy

July 15th, 2008

One of the saddest events in recent North Texas history will soon yield one of the happiest moments in anyone's life. It's a love story that grew out of the mass murder at Wedgwood Baptist Church 9 years ago. Jim Douglas was one of the first reporters on the scene that night, and he has this remarkable update.

First Movie at the Theater

IMG_1732 copyThis morning I took Madison to see  her first movie at the theater, the Veggie Tales movie:  "The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything."  It was free so I figured it was a good time to test the waters.  She did fabulous!  She sat in my lap and watch the preview cartoon even though it was quite strange.  About 30 minutes into the movie she asked for popcorn, I didn't even know she knew what it was and I just told her she couldn't have any, I thought we might have a battle but she was fine with that and settled for her cup instead.  A few minutes later she wanted to sit in a seat on her own.  She didn't weigh enough to keep it from folding up so she had to battle with that for about 15 minutes and then agreed to just sit back in my lap.  I was very proud of her and how quiet she was, I think she was the quietest one in the whole theater.  A few times she did say that she was scared but the moments passed quickly and she had a great time.  When Chris came home from lunch she was very excited to tell Daddy about the cucumber, asparagus, grapes, princess, and pirates.  I tried to tell her that the grapes were peas but she just said no mommy, like how could you be so silly.  We will have to keep our eyes open for a good film to go and see as a family.

Fort Worth

Well after our time in Grapevine with Chris' parents we headed to my parents house in Fort  Worth.  The first few days my mom, sister and I prepared for the Bridal Shower that several ladies from our home church planned for Rebekah.  Saturday Madison stayed with Aunt Shawnna while I went to my sisters bridal portraits and bridal shower.  The portraits where great and the happy young couple was very blessed by the amazing amount of gifts.

(Start those thank you notes Bek, you got a bunch to write)

That next Sunday we had a family hamburger cookout lunch with my brothers, my sister and her fiance, and my niece and nephews.

On Monday night Madison started attending her first VBS with Grandma and she seemed to have a really good time.  I loved watching her cross the street holding Grandma's hand.  I think her favorite night of VBS was the water fun night where they got to wear their swimsuits and play in the kiddie pool and sprinklers.

That Tuesday the girls headed to Rebekah's new apartment to help organize a few things.  They have a very nice place and it brought back a lot of memories of our first apartment in Brandon, Florida.  It was fun getting to help put things in the cabinets and organize the kitchen.  I wish we could have had that kind of help the many times that we have had to move.

Throughout my time in Fort Worth I also got to visit with my dear friend Catina and her children as we meet at her gym several times to work out together.  We also got to enjoy a nice Girls Night Out dinner that Thursday night at one of my favorite Fort Worth restaurants, Charleston's.

Friday was my Mom's birthday and the family got together again to celebrate with a cookout, cake and ice cream.

Madison's self portrait... she thinks she can use the camera herself but this one kind of turned out.

We enjoyed the time together especially the Wii competitions.  Funny the first thing Madison remembered when we got to my parent's house the first day was the Wii controller.

Saturday Madison and I had dinner at my brother Tre's house with his wife and kids.  Madison got to swim with Noah in his orange pool.

Sunday afternoon we headed back to Grapevine to see Grammy and Grandpa one last time and spent one last night since they were generously willing to cart us back to the airport.  Madison had a great time and ended up with a few more jewels and a special dinner at the Rainforest Cafe.

Sunday

I have a few more pictures to post from the weekend as well as funny stories.

Sunday morning I picked out the dress I wanted Madison to wear to church and I showed her that it had a matching purse and bow to go with it.  She decided she would call it her mailbag and matching mailbag dress.  You see Madison got the Dora book seen below for Valentine's Day where the mail bird looses his glasses and mailbag filled with Valentine's Day cards for Dora and her friends. Madison loves to lift the flaps to help Dora find the missing mailbag -- and the missing valentines!

After church we changed our clothes and we wanted Grandpa and Grammy to see the T-shirt they inspired us to get for Madison.  When you asked Madison who taught her about ice cream she says Grandpa and Grammy. IMG_1708 While Madison was taking her afternoon nap Chris put up her big girl swing that I got for her on a trip to Toys R Us.  Madison has loved to swing from the day we brought her home from the hospital, she can swing for hours or until your arm is falling off.  Another thing she now loves are her pink flip flops from Grammy and Grandpa, we had to wait until it was her idea but now we can't get her to take them off, she would bathe and sleep in them if we didn't pry them off her little feet.  Glad she likes them though because they are a must in Florida, heck she could probably wear them year round.

Independence Day

We have enjoyed some quality family time this weekend and Madison has loved the 4th of July.  We even got to give her a little bit of her own independence.  Tonight she is sleeping in her newly converted big girl bed.

Friday morning we got up and Chris got donuts for our special family breakfast together.  He also picked up a paper for us to find out about the local fireworks shows.  Guess what, Gainesville doesn't do fireworks on the 4th, they do them the night before on the 3rd, so we adjusted our plans.  We decided to go to the Natural History Museum and let Madison see the Butterfly Rainforest again since it is her favorite thing in Gainesville.  On the way home we picked up Chick-fila or as Madison called it the nugget store.  Yes their are only two meat products that my child will eat willingly and they are chicken nuggets and turkey hot dogs, pretty much everything else we have to beg, barter and plead with her about.  After lunch we had a little family play time with Lego blocks and Madison took her nap.  I then got to have a little quite alone time while running a few errands, that was nice.  For dinner we grilled out burgers.  At 9:00 we went outside for our own mini fireworks and Madison loved it.  She kept asking for more, luckily our "neighbors" had splurged on some really big fireworks that we were able to enjoy as well.

Saturday morning we got up and headed to Orlando to do some outlet shopping.  We all found some good deals and it was well worth the time and gas.  When we got home we gathered the tools and Chris converted Madison's bed to a toddler bed.  Madison was so funny she was tightening the bolts back with her hands that Chris had just loosen, he didn't care though, we was so proud that she wanted to play with tools.  Then she was telling us she was Handy Manny, if you don't know he is a little character on Disney that has talking tools that help him do fix it jobs around his little town, "Sheetrock Hills".    Unfortunately she kept asking to hammer the bed, and well the designer in me cringed as she wanted to destroy the bed I had so searched so hard to find before she was born.  So she settled with going back and reinserting all the bolts Chris has just removed back into their original locations.  I think Chris was probably getting a little pay back for some of his younger days.   Hey at least she wasn't trying to hide the tools, burry the tools, or claim them as her own I guess that will come later if she follows after her Daddy.  But we got the bed finished and I pulled out all the new stuff I had bought for her.  She loved it and told me it was nice and warm.  I debated making her leave paci behind but she didn't seem up to it and well we did want her to actually sleep in the bed tonight.  At bed time we did everything the same and she just rolled over and told us good night.  Thank you Lord for what a precious child you have given us and and that she is and has been such a good sleeper for us.
