Today Madison went on her first field trip with her preschool. The three year old classes all went to the Alachua Pumpkin Patch sponsor by the First United Methodist Church of Alachua. This is a Pumpkin Patch fundraiser in conjunction with the Navaho Indians of Northwestern New Mexico.
Today the Pumpkin Patch Family of churches and other non-profit organizations is made up of over 1,000 locations, over 20 denominations in 42 states and still growing. The Navaho Indians of the Four Corners area of New Mexico grow, pick and load trailer trucks for the journey to the pumpkin patch locations; two-thirds of the proceeds of all sales goes directly to the Navaho Reservation and the remainder benefits the community church to help fund their goals. http://www.pumpkinsusa.com/AboutUs.htm
Madison was so excited about this field trip, she absolutely could not wait to "introduce me" to all her friends. I have always believed that Madison was a great kid, she was a super easy baby, and easy going toddler. I didn't fully realize to the full extent what an out going and social child she is. Somewhere in the last few weeks Madison heard someone say that they could talk to a rock meaning that they will talk to anyone and anything. Well Madison has taken that up as her slogan. She will say "you know Momma I talk to rocks." Well today she proved that to me. She was so insistent about introducing me to each child. She even cried when I walked past a child I didn't realize was in her class. All of a sudden burst of tears, "Madison what is wrong", "you didn't get to meet Holton." Her teacher comes over and asks is she ok, we realize the problem and it turns out that Holton is right next to us. Wow didn't realize it was that crucial to the child. As a child I was pretty shy I wouldn't say that I would just go up to kids I didn't know but Madison she could care less if she knows them or not. She will go up to kids on a playground and ask them if they want to play with her. She of course is devastated if they aren't interested. I try to tell her it is ok to play by herself but that isn't good enough for her, she is my "social butterfly." She must get that from her two Grandma's that have too many friends to ever count. Thank you Jesus for my spirit filled child, thank you for her kind and open heart. Thank you for giving us this small piece of "Grace", she is so much more then we could ever have deserved. So thankful the weather was moderately comfortable, the overcast skies helped make the heat and humidity bearable.
