Riverbanks’ Lights Before Christmas

IMG_1915

Tonight we went to Riverbanks’ Lights Before Christmas at the zoo.  We had a fun time and even got in for free, didn’t realize our family pass would give us free entrance.  The lights were very beautiful and we had a fun family night.

Making Cookies with Mama June

Today Madison got to do some baking and cooking with Mama June.  They made pound cake cookies, white chocolate peanut butter balls, and some little pigs in a blanket.  Madison had so much fun and so did Mama June!  And the treats they made were so yummy.

Twas the Night Before Christmas Ballet

Today I got to be a field trip parent and join Madison’s class on a trip to see the Columbia Ballet’s perform of Twas the Night Before Christmas.  The performance was very entertaining and Madison and I both had a great time.

Emily’s Christmas Program

Emily is our neighbor Carol’s granddaughter and Madison and Emily play together almost every Wednesday and Friday afternoon when Emily is over after school.  Emily was in a Christmas program at her church Red Bank UMC and Emily invited Madison to come see her performance, so we took Madison to see the special program.  Her friends Wyndham, Victoria, and their big sister Lillian were also in the program.  Afterwards Madison enjoyed a few snacks with her friends and congratulated them on their great performances.

I have the Best Sister!

So it’s 50 something outside today and I literally ran up the hill to get the mail just a few minutes ago.  I then ran back down the hill because well I am silly and I had on flip flops, I hate to be cold but I just love that feeling when you open the mailbox and you have something inside that isn’t a bill or a junk mailer.

I opened the mailbox to find a little envelope for Madison with what I knew was box tops from my sister for Madison’s collection at school.  Yes, she is only 5 so I still get to open the mail even if my name isn’t on it.

What I didn’t know is that the most precious handmade card inside would make me cry.  You see my sister would be the first to say “I’m not crafty…you got all the creativeness in our family” but this little handmade card for Madison was oh so creative.  They say….whoever they are…that handmade things really come from the heart and well this one sure did.

If a collection of box tops can bring a playground to a school in need then a handmade card can fill a heart, and this one sure did.

This year has been full of so many up and downs starting with the death of a beloved friend and neighbor, moving to Texas only to be forced to leave my home behind, and trying to find my way in yet again another new place to call home and saying earthly goodbye to my Grandpa and beloved pet Aggie.  I find that even the simplest reminder of family and how much they mean to me can bring me to that emotional place where tears just roll down your cheeks.

My sister took the time to find colored map pencils and draw the cutest little swing set on a sunny day for my little girl.  What an amazing sister she is and what a loving aunt, I can’t wait until I can be a amazing aunt to her sweet child.

I LOVE YOU REBEKAH AND I AM SO THANKFUL YOU ARE MY SISTER!  So glad God gave me a sister that day in July.

Halloween 2011

This year Madison dressed up as a 50’s girl all ready for a sock hop.  She had fun at Mt. Ebal’s Trunker Treat night on the 30th.  She got lots of candy, played games, enjoyed a hayride and got to eat pop corn and smores.  It was a fun night.

Our surprise visitor!

Mom got to come to visit us in Lexington for a few days and we surprised Madison at the carpool pickup line.  I think she was shocked to say the least.  We had a great time just being together and hope that Papa can come next visit.

We took Grandma to Cupcake, in the Vista for a yummy treat and Grandma got to have lunch with Madison at school.  Madison enjoyed getting to play on her swing set with Grandma and check out our pond.  We had lunch with some of our Bowers relatives at Chili’s and went for a visit to Harmon’s pumpkin farm.  Madison loved having Grandma play with her up in her room and read stories to her.

We were sad to see her go but know that we will see her again soon!
