Our Backyard ~

A moose and its two calves live near our house. We have seen them behind the house a couple times already. The other day we opened our door to another set of moose (this moose had one calf) right in our driveway.
Now before heading out the door we always check and then declare, "No moose! Clear!"

Martin and Silke took us to some sand dunes a mile from town. The road to the sand dunes is the only one leading out of town and eventually goes to the dump.

These moose keep coming back! :)

The girls getting ready to go four-wheeling.
Below: Nae had three to four mosquito bites near her eye. You might not be able to tell, but her left eye is swollen from those bites. Poor girl.
Some teammates of ours from a nearby village came to visit us via bush plane. The girls liked watching it land on the river.
Whenever we go to Finn's house the girls end up playing in the dirt. Since we're limited with how much water we use they sometimes don't get a bath...they don't mind though :)
The girls enjoy having Finn for a friend.
We attended a baseball game this weekend. I was asked to play but didn't have a mitt...it's too bad because I would have enjoyed it. During this game a mosquito landed on Nae's nose. Instead of swatting it off she stood very still and yelled, "Squito! Squito!" I had to swat it off, but less than twenty minutes later she had a welt on her nose from that "squito."
On Saturday there was a race run/walk...it was four miles and the girls did great! Brad almost took Naomi back to the car but she wanted to press on and ended up going the whole way.
Our competition ahead of us...we lost sight of them after awhile :)
Nae did take shoulder breaks every once in awhile.

Nae...
...omi!

In the afternoon they had a boat race from Fairbanks to our village. Most of the town came down to the river to watch the contestants come in.
Apparently two teams broke down and one team crashed.

Home Sweet Home ~

A Community Event ~

We attended a community event the other night. The girls had fun splashing in the Yukon river and playing "toddler" games with other kids in the village.
After counting, Ruthie and Naomi have over 30 mosquito bites on their bodies. It's almost like the mosquitos know there is fresh blood in the village...OR it's just because their Mommy packed the bug spray on the barge (and the barge hasn't arrived yet). :)
Yesterday I walked to our house to begin cleaning it and on my way back I heard rustling in the trees next to me. I walkie-talkied Brad and said it could be a bear or a wolf (my fear)...he assured me I was safe but I insisted he meet me halfway. Brad said once he turned the corner and saw me, a moose ran right behind me across the road!
During our tire delay I proceeded to walk in the tundra...I might have stepped on cow parsnip (with sandals on) because my toes have blisters all over them, and they itch very badly. Add this to the mosquito frenzy here and I'm one itchy girl!
Back in Fairbanks: While pulling up to our hotel we heard Nae say, "Here's home!"
Back at Fairbanks: We needed to buy frozen food to bring with us on the flight to the village, and the girls were getting a little tired of shopping...Ruthie asked where the "kid section" was (ie. the toy secton). Then she saw a candy store and declared, "Ah, there's the kid section!"
