This video is hilarious! The girls, Brad and I watched it over and over and over again. Sidenote: the girls are pretending to play guitars (hence the hand movements).

Our Innovative Sled ~
Above: My new piano...thanks Mom and Dad! I love it! I'm trying to teach myself to play the piano...it's going good so far. I've learned a couple hymns and hopefully I (or a DVD) can teach the girls how to play someday.
We ordered a sled via Amazon but it won't get here for a few weeks...SO my amazing husband rigged our storage bin to do the job. The girls are a little crammed, but they seem not to mind.
Our friend had a meeting in a small village south of us...his wife told us his ticket cost more money than a flight to Africa! It's crazy how expensive it is to fly around here!
During our dinners we go over a godly character trait. Last night was respect. Brad talked to the girls about opening up doors for the elderly. We gave them situations where "old people" were coming up behind them and how they should hold the door open for them. Then Nae started rambling and said with kindness, "When Papa comes behind me, I open the door for Papa." So, sorry Dad...we were trying not to use names, but apparently Nae sees you as an "elderly old person." :)

Staying Warm ~
The temperatures have dropped to the teens this past week. The sun doesn't come up until 10am and sets around 6pm. It was weird going to church this morning in darkness.
I attended women's prayer this Saturday morning (it starts really early) and all my family was still sleeping. Then my hero woke up and the next thing I knew the car was started and the snow scraped off. Brad really challenges me with his servant-like behavior. I don't deserve this man God has given me!
Below: Grandma V. We visit this elder weekly. The girls like her a lot!
When I asked Grandma V. what her favorite food was she responded, "Moose knees and moose nose." Um...I was hoping for chocolate chip cookies (gives me an excuse to bake them).
During evening devotions--

Scarlet fever has been going around the village and multiple kids have got it...the girls were sick the past two weeks and we never took them to the doctor. When I looked at the symptoms online the girls had several of them...but they seem to be feeling better now.

Ruthie and Naomi were cleaning the kitchen floors and Brad said, "Thanks for serving girls." Ruthie responded, "I like to serve. It's hard work but I like to serve."

Below: We passed A. (a man from the village) as he was training and preparing his sled dogs for the winter months.

We walked along the Yukon to see the ice chunks floating by. Things are starting to freeze up around here!

Below: Check out the hood on this coat! There's no way any cold air will get to my neck...I thought while we were walking that if a bear did attack me (some aren't hibernating yet) their teeth wouldn't be able to break through the barrier of this amazingly warm coat. On the other hand, Brad would be easy bait for a bear...as he commented about being "toasty" in a simple underlayer. :)

Backyard Fun ~
We were telling the girls how thankful we need to be that we live in such a beautiful spot. It's amazing that we have the freedom to walk outside and drive one mile to reach an area with no civilization...we have miles upon miles to hike and walk around. It's a blessing!
We saw a bull moose the other day and were hoping to find another one (preferably with a great distance between us). We found lots of scat but never saw a bull.
Below: A Nae girl face.
My Handsome and me!
Oh! There's that handsome man again!
What's Left of the Yukon ~
The Yukon River has been going down for awhile now. We spent Sunday afternoon walking on the beach and enjoying the sun, before it leaves us. :)
Above: A moose and its calf had the same plan in mind.
We also went to "Jungle Island" and looked for driftwood. Most of it was cut (meaning it's already taken by someone else who plans to come back and retrieve it). A lot of people from the village boat or four-wheel to Jungle Island, but now that the river is down we can drive there.
The other day we were chatting about the persecuted church...whenever I mentioned China Ruthie would announce, "Grandma Shilloy smuggled Bibles to China!"
Below Freezing ~
We spent one morning walking along the Yukon looking for driftwood.

Below: This contraption is amazing! It's a hydraulic firewood cutter (that's my terminology). It saves so much time and is a lot easier! We borrowed this one from a friend and it was really nice for Brad not to have to split wood for days.
