Flip Flop Fanatic

Hi, my name is Tara and I am a flip flop fanatic! (This is where you say, "Hi, Tara!"). I didn't know I was an addict until recently. You know those ads all of the stores always send you in your email inbox that you constantly have to weed through and delete? Yeah, I don't--I fall for them almost everytime and get excited about whatever various sale they are promoting and click to go to the website and shop. This past week's incident happened to be a J. Crew ad...for flip flops. These aren't your ordinary flip flops though...these are the cutest flip flops ever! Embelished flip-flops that look oh so chic and classy. Can you call flip-flops classy? Oh well, I just did. So the pictures above show the selection that I knew I would just die if I had to live without them. What did I do? Ordered them online of course! I kind of forgot about them in the hustle and bustle of the weekend but when I heard the doorbell ring and saw the UPS man standing there with a package today, I REMEMBERED! I was SO excited!! This was probably the highlight of my day. I forgot to mention the purchase to Drew, so I apologized, quickly opened my package, and made it all right with a flip flop fashion show!! I put on each pair and pranced into the living room to show Drew. He wins husband of the year award because he even gave commentary like they do in real fashion shows, "this pair is adorned with jewels and is the perfect pair of shoes for the summer." Now, I am already counting down the days left in the school year before I have a well-needed summer break (12 days!), but this just got me giddy about summertime!!

Chicken Fried Steak

So I attempted to make chicken fried steak tonight for dinner. I have a lot of room for improvement but this is how I made it.

Ingredients:

thin cuts of steak
1 cup flour
1 teaspooon garlic powder
1 cup buttermilk
1 egg
salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

In a shallow bowl, mix the egg, buttermilk, salt and pepper. In a different shallow bowl, mix the flour and garlic powder.

Pour oil in a large skillet about 1/2 inch high and turn on burner to medium-high heat. While the skillet is getting hot, take a thin cut of steak and place in flour mixture to coat on both sides. Dredge in buttermilk mixture and return to flour mixture for a second coating. Then, place in the skillet. About 2 minutes on each side is all it takes! These cooked very quickly for me. These were good but needed something to give the batter a little more flavor. Any ideas?! All are welcome!

What A Weekend

We are back! After a long and busy weekend...we are back home and not going to do a THING during the week to recover from the weekend. Here is how our weekend went:

Thursday-
  • Softball play-off game at 7:45pm
  • Leave for College Station at 9pm
  • Arrive in College Station at 12am
Friday-

  • Drew played golf with my dad, Katie's dad (my sister-in-law), and my dad's friend Barry
  • Out and about in CS
  • Dinner with family and grandparents at the Pebble Creek Country Club Grill at 5pm
  • Trey graduates from Texas A&M University (WHOOP!!!!!!!!!) at 7pm....ummmmmm side-note: Engineering Major graduations are kind of weird. There. I said it. If you heard an American name, you looked up because it was THAT rare! There was even this one guy that only had one name- Steven. No last name, middle name, anything! I was proud of my brother though--what a smarty!! He graduated with honors with a Petroleum Engineering major and a Math minor.
  • Spoons celebration (frozen yogurt place my dad is a FREQUENT patron at) with family after graduation at 10pm

Saturday-

  • Trey's graduation brunch at my parents' house at 10am
Me & Pa at Trey's Graduation Brunch

James, my cousin, entertained us with his hilarious faces!

Sister-in-law & Brother

  • Leaving for Abilene at 12pm
Driving through torrential rain storm at 4pm
  • Arrive in Abilene at 5pm

Arriving at Drew's grandparents' house at 5:45pm
  • Leaving for Grace Museum in Abilene for the wedding at 6:30pm
  • Wedding at 7pm- my best friend's little sister, Hannah Orozco married Jason Grassie! My dad was the officiant and did a great job doing their wedding. Hannah was absolutely beautiful! I loved getting to see Alison and Justin who were in the country for the wedding (they are missionaries in Peru)! I got to finally meet and hold precious Corban, Alison's little boy who couldn't be any cuter!! Cailyn was precious as well and was all over the place at the wedding--that girl can move! It's hard to believe that the last time I saw her, she was the precious little flower girl in my wedding--not even old enough to walk (we had her pulled down the aisle in a wagon by my ring bearer cousin).

Mom & Dad at the wedding

Me & Alison, holding sleepy Corban

My mom is...

My Mom Is...

This post is for my mom on Mother's Day.

My mom is beautiful, and I mean gorgeous! The kind of beautiful that never ages, never fades, yet always shines.

My mom is intelligent. Drew makes fun of me for starting ALL of my sentences with "my mom said..."

My mom is a quiet servant. I say quiet because she never makes mention of the kind things she is so often doing for others other than it coming up in casual conversation: "Well I have to let you go, there are some ladies coming over to have a dinner at our house to honor one of the ladies in their group." "Dad and I are just coming back from building a ramp for someone that needed it who is in a wheelchair."

My mom is funny. Her sense of humor always astounds me, makes her fun to be around, and what would I do without all of those cut-out comics that she gives me anytime they correlate with my life?!

My mom is fashionable. Did you know she and a friend once came to DFW for the sole reason of coming to a fashion show? Yeah...that's MY mom!

My mom is calming. Yes she is calm too--but what I mean is that she always has the right words to say to calm my spirit. I can be having the roughest of days and I know to just call her and tell her what's going on and within minutes I will be feeling tons better due to stellar advice she has given or just the way that she listens and is sympathetic to my situation.

Lastly, my mom is better than your mom.

Happy Mother's Day!

Blog Beginnings

Hey friends and family! So everyone I know is doing some sort of blog these days...I decided to jump on the bandwagon and try it out for myself. I haven't decided what I am going to blog about yet but I have spent all day trying to figure out all of this layout business. So complicated!!
