Christmas Eve Eve

To try to cut down on some of the Christmas craziness, we exchanged gifts with David's family on Thursday night. His mom makes the most amazing pepperoni bread so I was VERY excited when she suggested that for dinner. For many Christmas' Brent and Ryleigh have been the only little ones around so it was really nice to have Alex, Alexis and Logan be here and share it with them. After all was said and done, we figured we would gift David's parents a break and let the kids spend the night. Logan liked his gift from us so much that he even brought it with him! I'm so glad they are here to make some special memories.

Rye's class x-mas party

This was the first year since Ryleigh started school that I didn't have to split my time between 2 classrooms. With Brent being in intermediate now, I did not receive an invitation to join in on their class festivities...guess his age group is too big for that! It was nice though to be able to give all of my attention to just one of them and really be in that moment for just them. Before I know it, there won't be any classroom parties to attend :'(

What's to argue with?

So sitting on the counter this morning is a note from Brent. It appears that his homeroom teacher must have given them an assignment to write a letter to your parents about something you would like. Here is what my child wrote:

Dear Mom and Dad,

You should get me an iPad. It is very cool You can play games and other stuff. Here are some reasons you should buy it for me:

I get awesome grades. I do all my homework. I always get A's and I do my best on a test.

I would do more chores. I would dust. I wouldn't forget about chores. I would be faster at them.

I would be nice to my sister. I would help her clean her room. I would play with her more. I would let her do more stuff with me.

So, as you can see, there are lots of benefits. I would be very happy with it and you like that I get good grades, right? Ya, you do.

Love,
Brent

What can I say? He's got some good points...on the other hand, in NO WAY am I buying him a $500 toy, nice try though!

6th St....finally!

So although we only live 3 hours away, neither David or I had ever been down to Austin at nighttime to have the whole 6th Street experience. Leave it to Eric and Ashley to take care of that small problem :-). Last Friday one of Eric's friends booked them a free hotel room for the night with his hotel points so they called us and invited us to go with them. The weather here was rainy and gloomy and I was tired, but the kids ditched us to go to Grammy's so we decided what the heck and headed out. We didn't even get out to 6th street until about 12:30 am but we still had SO MUCH FUN! We laughed and danced until it was time to go and then we laughed some more back in the hotel room. I really am so lucky that God sent me a brother and I will claim Ashley as my sister any day. I love these two like crazy and the 4 of us together really always have the best time. Oh, and did I mention how AMAZING the pizza at 2 a.m. was?!?!

Sofie...oh, Sofie

She is SUCH a mess! One minute you are yelling at her to stop jumping on people and the next she's in your face with her toy wanting to play. One second she is wandering aimlessly around the house and next thing you know she falls over dead on the floor. As you will see in the pics below...she doesn't slowly sit or even lay down, she literally will be doing one thing and then she will just plop over on her side and not move. It has become the running joke in our house because at any given time you will hear someone in some room saying, "Sofie's dead again..." David almost fell over her coming out of the bathroom last night because there she was, "dead", in front of the door.

Nolan turns 6!

Ya know, these kids are really starting to make me feel OLD! Another year has passed and Nolan is now 6. Ivy had his party at her cousin's store which is called Play N Trade. They sell video games of all kinds, including old school Nintendo (don't think I wasn't all over that!!) and they also have a room in the back where you can have a tournament or birthday party. They have flat screen t.v.'s set up and you can play any system with just about any game. Perfect boy party right?!?! Brent was definitely in his element and Ryleigh had fun too playing Wii bowling with Ivy. I, on the other hand, found a murder/mystery game that I just may have to purchase for the Xbox 360 and I also went back about 20 years and played the original Mario Brothers. Of course this then inspired me to go home and dig out our original Nintendo that my mom bought when I was 7. Gotta say, that turned it into a fabulous Saturday night! Happy Birthday Nolan..thanks for taking me from semi-old to young again all in one day!
Rye was the only girl but I think she secretly gets a kick out of it! ;-)

Happy Birthday Lisa Loo!

I'm so lucky that I have been able to stay pretty close to most of the girls that I used to work with. When I worked there, they were my closest friends and family and it can be so easy to lose touch when you don't see them everyday. Luckily Ivy still works there so that definitely helps keep me in the loop!

Lisa's birthday was coming up and she wanted to do a happy hour so we met at this little place in Euless and boy did we ever make it a happy hour!! At some point in the night I bought Lisa a rose for her b-day and it then turned into our picture prop. We laughed, sang, talked, took TONS of pics and laughed some more. Overall, definitely a girls night for the books. Love ya ladies!!

Lisa didn't like her shot...

Field Day 2010

I was able to take off on Friday and spend the day at Field Day with the kiddos. I was really glad because this is their last one at the same school. Next year there will be no more being able to split time between them, fingers crossed that their activities are on separate days (which would actually make it better!!) Anyways, Eric was off also 'cause he and Ash were gonna spend the day together, so while she got a little extra beauty sleep, he came out and joined me. Since the weather ended up turning bad after lunch time, they weren't able to finish their activities, but we were able to go home and just spend a few quiet hours together. Work has been pretty crazy lately so I feel like I'm missing out on so much and I'm not able to do the things that I have for the last 5 years so I was extra grateful for that time with them.

Where does it go?

I cannot believe that this school year is already coming to an end. Soon enough my baby boy will be in a new school and my lil bit will be navigating this one on her own. He will spend his first few days adjusting to new hallways and changing classrooms and she will know a new independence of walking into school alone in the a.m.'s and waiting in the afternoons by herself. He will establish a new identity, seperate from his little sister and she will no longer be the younger sibling at school. He will create a new footprint for the both of them and eventually she will arrive there but not to walk in his path. That is the amazing thing about the both of them. Although he will always get to experience things first, she will always get there and make it her own. There is something comforting about being in the same school as your brother/sister but it is equally great and important to be your own person. It makes me so sad that they will no longer be together but also so happy because I know that they will flourish. They will part ways and have different things to talk about at the dinner table, never again to be reunited until he is a Sr. and she is a Freshman but always in each other's hearts.

Early Mother's Day gifts are the best!

Ryleigh just could not contain her surprise for me until Sunday so tonight so asked me to close my eyes and hold out my hands. When I opened them I had the following homemade card in my hands:

This is what is says on the front:
Happy Mothers Day
Dear Mom,
I love you so much. You are my favorite person in the world. I love you more than everything in the whole wide world, even infinity and beyond and more than 60 best friends.
Love, Rye Rye
The second pic is the inside left cover and has a picture of me & Ryleigh telling each other I love you. David saw it and said, "Oh look, yall are twins!" (Lol, she drew us exactly the same!)
And here is what the other page on the inside said:
You do so much for us so today is your day to relax. You're the best. Always, xoxo Ryleigh oxox you so much!
I just love my sweet baby girl.
