Right now I’m in the air, see you later Florida! Vacation here we come! I’ve been crazy busy and obviously haven’t updated in a long time. I had a checklist of all the things I needed & wanted to get done before we left. Updating was last on the checklist and it didn’t get done, so now I’m doing it. I want to write down what I can remember, at this point a whole month has gone by and my brain will be weak sauce for sure if I give it any longer. It seems like I live vacation to vacation. It’s so crazy but the only time in my life this will ever happen so I’m trying to love it while I can. Soon enough we won’t be so portable and free to do what we want. Kids will be in school, Mike will be working and there will be no more breaks at the end of every semester. I love and will miss school life.
So Saturday July 3rd Mike’s Dad flew into town we spent a few hours metal detecting at the beach while Mike studied then we spent a few hours all together. Sunday we spent the day at church, came home ate dinner then put Kes back on the plane by 6. Not much of a visit but it was so fun having him here. Kade, Mike & I watched the fireworks off the back porch and I must say it was the coolest firework show I’ve ever seen. Living on the 20th floor has some serious perks. The firework show was literally in the backyard and right in front of our faces. We’re up so high looking out over the city we saw what seemed like hundreds of firework shows going on. Our city fireworks ended and we went to bed but left the blinds open and fell asleep watching fireworks. So cool!
Mike studied his life away for July 7th, which means Boards part 1 finally came & went. Halleluiah. We spent the next day on a boat recuperating from two weeks straight of studying. (I say we like I studied real hard, ha ha) I love being on a boat and I love the water. We stopped off on a few islands. There is something so amazing about an island, being surrounded by so much water and being able to stand in the middle of it all. We did a little underwater metal detecting which is also amazing. I could spend every day in the water and be happy , well almost everyday… It would have to be half a year so I could spend the other half in the snow. Every time I look out the kitchen window and see the ocean I’m still amazed, no matter how many time I see it. I live at the edge of the map! I don’t know why that’ s so crazy to me but it is. There is so much about Florida that I will miss. Something about the beach relaxes me every time I think about it. My time here seems to be closing in on me and there is so much I still want to do!
Friday after Boards Mike & I went to his white coat ceremony. Which basically means he’s out of the classroom and into the hospital. He’s so excited about that! Over the next couple of weeks he finished finals. We both worked hard so we could play hard.
We went deep sea fishing after finals. The boat left at 8 and we didn’t get home until about 1:30 am. Those are late hours for a mom! I’m still tired from that night. So Mike & I have been fishing together for over 6 years now. I can honestly say that I have never once baited my own hook! Mike takes good care of me and I know how weenie it sounds but I just don’t like doing it. I fly fish for a reason and when I’m not fly fishing I use a rapala or jig. I will NEVER touch a worm I think they are absolutely disgusting & I can’t even tell you how much I hate them. Mike baited my pole, I dropped it down and as soon as I hit the bottom I had a bite. I caught three fish one right after another. Every time Mike baited my hook our friend kept saying, “she can do it.” I’m seriously thinking, Hey dude, don’t ruin a good thing! But I was actually catching a lot of fish and decided I couldn’t do that to Mike all night long. I grabbed the nearest hand towel picked up the frozen minnow now getting soggy from the heat. I stuck the hook in one eye and out the other and watched them pop out. Sick, but I did it. That’s true love, right?! I still wouldn’t touch the minnows with bare hands, seriously what if I needed to scratch my face later or touch my hair? I don’t think anyone on the boat even cared how germy & gross their hands were, they put their fish down and would pick up a drumstick and munch on it. Maybe that’s the health inspector side of me coming out or maybe it’s just the pansy in me. Either way I don’t think I’ll make a habit of baiting my own hook (:
So, now we’re in Vegas and everyone is ready to party but we’re ready for bed. Oh well, here come a lot of sleep deprived nights.
