BW did it!

He did it folks!  He did it!

Last Friday, Bryce biked Red Rock Canyon and made it up the big hill without stopping once.  He did not need a panting break.

I said I would make a special post just for this occasion.  Congrats BW!

Hate to Cook?

Last night I was julienning some vegetables for Sunday dinner and the thought occurred to me, "I know why some people hate to cook."  Do you want to know why?  They have bad knives. Seriously.  Have ever used a fabulous knife and then tried using knives from a $15 Big Lots set? Torture.

Some people ask me, "What do you miss about New York?".  While I miss great friends, great food, and Hippo Park, what I really want to say is..."I miss my knives."  I can't wait until we meet again. :)

My favorite knife:  Wusthof's Classic Chef Knife

Red Rock Canyon - Biking & Hiking

We live just minutes away from Red Rock National Conservation Area.

For road bikers, it's Mecca as they can ride a challenging yet scenic 13-mile loop through the area. The first half of the ride is most challenging as it climbs to a peak.  If you ride to the canyon from your home, you can make it a 30-mile round trip ride. Bryce loves to try and do this ride after work.  It's a great workout for him.  I'll have to make a special post when he can actually do the ride without stopping half way up the climb to pant.  (His words, not mine).

Red Rock also has a lot of trails for hiking.  Last Saturday we attempted to hike Ice Box Canyon.  We didn't make it all the way but had fun trying.  We learned we need to leave earlier in the morning.  8:30 wasn't early enough and by 10:00 the heat hit.  Jack even enjoyed his nap in the backpack.

Nice to be needed

Apparently, I'm an answer to prayer.  The bishop AND the primary president keep telling me this over and over.

I've been called as the primary pianist.

Here's how it went down:  Our first Sunday in the ward was Labor Day weekend.  The ward was sparse in numbers and a few mentioned everyone was out of town.  In Relief Society, the RS president introduced herself as things were being set up.  She said, "You don't happen to play the piano do you?"  I said "Sure, I can."  I played our hymns.

I guess immediately after church several people told the bishop, "Guess what? Sister W. plays the piano!"  We hadn't even met the Bishop, but by the next Sunday I was sustained and playing in Primary.  We've been rehearsing for the primary program this week.

I must say that it's nice to be needed.  Bryce is thrilled he gets to take Jack during Sunday School and Priesthood meetings.  I suppose he thinks its nice to be needed too.

Walking

Jack can walk.  He can't crawl but he can walk.  Seems he is following in his mother's footsteps. Scooting on his bottom then walking.  Crawling will come next.

Oh yes, did I tell you? Some people think I'm amazing. I can read and I never crawled. :)
