6 months Old

Samuel turned 6 months old on Friday. It is hard to believe half a year has already gone by, but it also seems like he's been with us forever. Here are some new developments this month...
- He slept through the night a couple of times, but then got sick and that just messed up everything we had established thus far. So, we are back to square one on that. He is really hating the idea of taking a nap right now...
- He rolls over onto his belly now, but still can't figure out how to get back onto his back.
- He eats cereal every night, but is still not very interested in it.
- He loves to play sitting up and can now reach for toys around him.
- He outgrew his swing... he tries to roll over in it and that just doesn't seem safe. I see now why they put a strap on it.
- He experienced his first Arkansas ice storm. As you locals know, we have been unable to get out of the house all week (Monday night through Friday) because of the ice. Many people lost power (and still don't have it back), although we did not (Thankfully!).
- He learned that snuggling with mommy is really not all that bad... I'm hoping it won't stop when he gets better :)

- He likes to hold his own spoon and sometimes makes it to his mouth, but then makes a sour face when he tastes the cereal on it.

- He can put his toes in his mouth. Bud was really impressed with this trick.

- He will grab our hands and clap them together. He still can't figure out how to do it with his own hands, but he loves clapping mommy and daddy's hands.

We had some problems getting a 6 month picture. He was much more interested in playing with the tag on his camel (Hump) than smiling for the camera. And, since he's still getting over his sickness, he wasn't in the best mood. These two were the best ones.

Sick Sam

Sam has been really sick for over a week now. He had RSV which means he coughs a lot, has a ton of mucus, and a fever. These miserable symptoms resulted in a very cuddly baby boy (very unusual for Samuel). We spent a lot of time snuggling with him and letting him sleep on our chests. He is on the mend. He's no longer contagious, but still coughing a lot. The Doc said the cough could last up to 6 weeks! We're now trying to get him used to sleeping in his crib again... back to square one!

Teeth

Samuel now has 2 teeth. The first one poked through on January 6 and the second one made an appearance on January 21. That sure does explain his mood the last few days :)
I know the picture is not the best, but it's very difficult to get him to show them off. He always sticks his tongue out when I try to get my fingers in there.

Tossing and Turning

Samuel has become quite the wiggle worm when going to sleep and/or during his sleep. He now sleeps on his tummy most of the time. I heard that would make him sleep longer... it doesn't. But, it does help him fall asleep. He no longer uses his pacifier, music, or blanket to fall asleep. He cries for about 30 seconds, then remembers he likes to sleep on his tummy, and as soon as he flips over, he's out (there are always exceptions, of course). Here is how we found him when we went to check on him last Saturday. Don't worry, he wasn't stuck, or in pain... obviously, he fell asleep like this... it couldn't have been too bad :)

Toy from Aunt Alyssa

I don't know who is enjoying the toy more... Samuel, Clara, or Daddy. Thank you Aunt Alyssa!

First foods

Here are some pictures of Samuel's first taste of rice cereal. I don't think he actually swallowed any in this setting, but it was fun trying. He's starting to get the hang of it now as we give it to him more frequently.
This is Samuel's first attempt at sitting in a high chair. He did great sitting up in the chair, but his attention span is pretty short so he didn't stay in the chair for long.

Sam laughing

Sam laughs at Clara when she whines...

Clara freaks out when I get the camera out...

So, here is a video of Sam laughing at Clara while she whines at the camera (Sorry for the shakey video... Clara was trying to "get" the camera).
