Holloween

For Halloween my grandma had a breakfast for the kids.It was really cute.At bingo kids started getting mad.I won't mention names.
1.Kate was winning every time.
2.I told them they had to win to get ice cream.
3.Kate tried to give them one of her spiders which I think was nice but the other kids thought it was like...Well to tell you the truth I'm not sure.
4.Kate kept bragging about her wins or so that's why the kids that were mad said that's why they were going outside.
Lucky for me I have backup.(More like she's the hero and I'm backup)Thanks Ash!!!
We also did Carmel apples. (They liked those)The mad kids started a 500 piece puzzle.(If they ever finish it I'll take a picture.)And you might of guessed. No party is ever complete without Thriller!(which they learned the dance to by the artist.) Speaking of music top 3 Halloween songs:
#3 Thriller #2 Ghost busters theme song #1 Monster mash. The kids thought Thriller should be #1. They think Monster mash is babyish. So that's it.
P.S Pictures will come soon

Great Recovery "Bravo, Bravo!"

Well, grandma made a WONDERFUL recovery!!! She is now up and running at work! Well, not completely running, she is still pretty tired.

My baby sister's recovery is a different story. Let's see, the stitches in her tongue came out and she got shots. (Check out my mom's blog for more details.)

I think I'm done here. See ya!

Thyroid Surgery

My mom's thyroid surgery went well. She was extremely loopy afterwards and thought my brother's dog, Skipper, was in the room with her. It was pretty funny. However, she's doing great today and has already gone home from the hospital for a few days of R&R.

So his baby sister, his mother, and his grandma won't be there. At least he'll have aunts, uncles, cousins, and of course the puppies.(Sophie)

PET Scan Results

I got my final PET scan results today and the doctor says that I am cancer-free. I'll meet with him again in 3 months to keep track of my progress.

To celebrate I am traveling to my daughter's to see my oldest granddaughter graduate from high school. I'm so excited that I get to be there. She is such a wonderful girl and I love when I get to see her.

Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day Mom!

I just wanted to take a few minutes to brag about my my mom. My mom is so incredible, but she would never tell anyone else and for this reason I have taken it upon me to let you all know.

While I was growing up my mom had to do the job of two parents and she was amazing. She was very involved in the community and in my school, but most importantly she was very involved with me. Here are some of the ways my mom showed she cared:
  • Whenever I was sick there was chicken noodle soup and some Sprite with my name on it.
  • Every holiday was a special event - and I mean every holiday (Valentine's, Easter, Christmas, St. Patrick's Day, the 4th of July, etc.). There was always special treats for us and the house was always decorated.
  • I never remember playing in a game that my mom wasn't at. This is really saying something because I played a lot of sports and there were a lot of games.
  • I could always confide in my mom. She was always there for me.
  • My mom was always excited about things and always wanted us to have experiences.
  • I would constantly find little notes from my mom and these were usually combined with flowers or a cookie or something. The notes were usually her telling me that she was proud of me or wishing me good luck before a test or a game. They just made you feel special.
  • My mom was always so nice to my friends and they all loved her and thought she was the coolest - very important to a high schooler.
  • My mom always made me feel pretty and special (except for that one comment about being sturdy, but I know she meant well).
  • She was always a good sport and laughed whenever we teased her.
  • She is so much fun to be around.
  • My mom went horseback riding with me even though she was terrified.
  • My mom sacrificed a lot for her kids and her husband - a lot.
Fun family reunion.

Horseback riding at Yellowstone.

Pretty in pink :)

Visiting the tulips with her grandson.

Eating lunch with her granddaughter.

Running a marathon at age 59!

Holding a grandbaby.

Hanging out with all her kids, except for my brother who was in Florida at the time.

The whole family (minus the three, newest little babies)

There are so many more things that I could say about my mom, but I just want her to know that I think she is incredible and I am so, so, so grateful that she is my mom.

Love you mom,
Ashley

Festival of Tulips

Today we went to the tulip festival at Thanksgiving Point. We had a lot of fun and really enjoyed seeing all the gorgeous tulips.

My mom liked the pink tulips the best.

We had a great time and were glad that we went despite the rain.

Somthing that makes my grandma giggle.

My grandma gave me promisson to blog this, because me and her are the only ones that know this story. Ok so yesterday me and my grandma went up to BYU, and as we were entering we saw the biggest bird nest we have ever seen. I thought it was funny when my grandma told me it looked like an eagle nest. I said it look like an ellephant's nest.  So we went to my grandmas office and there where two of her friends there. First she ask scott if he knew who it was he said no. So the next day she went to the deans office. He told her that their not aloud to leave thing like that. So she went to her office and ask scott again and said I have a good idea who did it. (This is the part that makes her giggle.) She saw four boys picking it up before she left, and she couln't help laughing! My grandma said that people thought it was real and some thought that people brought it from the mountains. My grandma never thought a nest could make so much fuss

My Newest Grandbaby

Sorry it has taken me so long to post this. The past week has been extremely eventful with all the concern over the new baby, all of the family here, and I also got my wisdom tooth out just for fun.

Anyways, my mom's newest grandbaby arrived on March 27th at 7:50pm. She was 7 lbs and 19 in. We are so happy that she is here and we are even happier that she was able to come home this past weekend.

The new little girl was born with a cleft palate and a very small jaw. She has been up at Primary Children's hospital for the past week, but was able to come home once the staff saw how well my sister would take care of her. The baby will need to have surgery on her cleft palate in the future and may have to have surgery on her jaw. For now the baby has to remain on oxygen and has to have special bottles in order to eat, but we are just glad that she is home.

We are so grateful for the many prayers in her behalf. She is such a little angel.

A Fun Visit and a Newbie

This week has already been really exciting and it's sure to have an exciting finish. My oldest granddaughter came down at the end of last week to see the new baby, play with the kids, see family, and hang out with her grandma. We've had lots of fun so far. We went shopping and to lunch on Saturday to some of my favorite places. Lunch was delicious, but the ambiance was even better. Although the service that day was very poor. That waitress didn't even get me the knife I asked for. But, all in all, my granddaughter and I had a great time.

I'll post a picture soon.

Then on Sunday I got a new grandson. He was born on March 22 at 6:16am and was 7lbs and 20in. He also came with two large dimples, just like his daddy. We are so excited to have him here. He is such a miracle.

Mom is doing good too!
What a cute little boy.

On Friday I should be getting one more new grandchild, a baby girl. We are excited for her to come and join her new cousins.

As for news about the activity around my heart - there isn't any as of yet. I'm still waiting on the doctors.

Fairies and Hockey Pucks?

This weekend was the annual Fairy Tea Party. My mom has gone to this for the past few years with granddaughters and has loved every minute of it. Most of the girls get all dressed up in their fairiest of clothes and my mom usually gets a little dressed up as well. I'm not exactly sure what goes on at the Fairy Tea Party, but I'm sure that there are lots of girly things and I'm sure that my mom and the little girls have a lot of fun.

My mom also got to see her grandson play hockey this weekend. She usually gets to see more of the hockey games during the winter, but this year she hasn't been able to get out as much so she was very excited when the hockey games were in town this weekend.

As for the PET scan and the results, I would just like to inform everyone that I haven't been a slacker and just not posted what the doctor said about the activity around my mom's heart. The truth is that the doctor hasn't said much about it. He told my mom that he didn't think it was too much to worry about, however, he is still trying to get a hold of the radiologist to discuss the PET scan with him and I guess that the radiologist has been hiding. So that is why I haven't posted anything. My mom promised me that she would call the doctor again tomorrow and I promise that I'll post when I find out something.

PET Scan Results - To Be Continued

So, the PET scan brought some good news and some bad news. I didn't think that there would be any bad news so I was a little taken aback when my mom told me and not very happy.

It looks like the chemo took out all of the lymphoma - which is the good news.

However, the doctor said that there was some activity around my mom's heart that wasn't there on the PET scan taken 6 weeks before - which is the bad news. The doctor doesn't know what the activity around the heart is and wanted to talk to the radiologist, who had already left for the day.

So, for now we're just waiting to find out what this new thing is. We'll keep you posted.

In the meantime my mom has a little more energy and is trying to resume her old life. She went to her granddaughter's baptism on Saturday. Welcomed a new granddaughter into the world on that same day. And will start work again tomorrow.

Here's my mom at the baptism. Doesn't my little niece look pretty?

Here's my mom holding my new baby girl.

Overall, it was an eventful Saturday for my mom full of good things.

PET Scan (2/24)

My mom had her PET scan today and everything went fine. The mobile unit was there, they knew where the technicians were, and they had enough drugs. In other words, it was a miracle.

So, my mom should find out the results of the scan within the next few days. I'll keep you posted.

PET Scan Tomorrow (2/23)

My mom is getting her PET scan tomorrow that should tell her whether or not they got all the cancer. Say a quick prayer for her that everything goes well and that the cancer is all gone. I'll post an update tomorrow unless something comes up (i.e., my baby).

Happy Valentine's Day!

Yesterday was Valentine's Day and my mom went all out on a Valentine's Day breakfast for the kids. (Did I mention that my mom loves Valentine's Day? A day full of pink and purple and all things frilly and girly, it's pretty much heaven on earth for my mom.) At the breakfast, my mom had all sorts of cute little gifts for the grandkids in addition to a delicious breakfast.

There were bears, little mailboxes to put valentines into, candies, and a giant heart cookie - don't worry, that's not what was for breakfast...that was just table decoration.

For breakfast there were heart-shaped pancakes (courtesy of my brother) topped with sliced strawberries and whipped topping, bacon, sausage, orange juice, and chocolate milk. All the kids were excited to eat the yummy food - some were even rubbing their bellies in anticipation.

After breakfast the kids got to play with each other while the adults sat around and laughed together. It was a fun day and everyone had a good time, especially my mom - the Queen of Valentine's Day.

The After-Effects

My mom is currently going through the after-effects of her last chemo treatment and it hasn't been going well. When she went to her doctor's appointment on Friday they had to hydrate her to try and help her body, take some extra bloodwork, and do a chest x-ray to see if anything was seriously wrong with her. After all of the tests came back her doctor told her that her immune system is incredibly low right now and that she needed to stay in bed, not do anything crazy, and stay far away from anyone who might possibly be sick. So, that is what she's been doing.

She should start feeling better in a few more days as more of the chemo gets out of her system and then she'll have plenty of time for her body to recover. The doctor scheduled her last PET scan for a month from now so at that point we'll know if the chemo got rid of all the cancer. We're desperately praying that it did.

PET Scan Results

My mom's doctor called her tonight because he didn't want her to have to wait until tomorrow for the news. The PET scan results were really positive. She only has a few spots left and those should be eliminated by the chemo treatment that she gets tomorrow. So, this should be her last chemo treatment and after that she should be cancer free! Whoo-hoo!

She will need to go in for a follow-up PET scan to know if she is cancer-free for sure and her doctor is trying to get that scheduled in six weeks.

My mom is in high spirits and is really excited.

PET Scan Update

My mom was able to have her PET scan yesterday morning. She should find out the results when she goes in for her 6th chemo treatment tomorrow. I'll keep you posted.

PET Scan Ineptitude

My mother just called me to tell me how frustrated she is. The PET scan staff just called to tell her that they wouldn't have enough medicine to accommodate their last two patients for the day and she just happens to be one of those two. So, she won't be getting her scan today.

After she told them that she had already been rescheduled once before and had waited almost a month for this scan, they graciously said that they might be able to squeeze her in tomorrow at 7:30am.

So, please keep praying for my mom, but you might also want to pray that the PET scan actually occurs. Pray that the PET scan staff will be able to find their mobile PET scan unit in the morning and won't lose it overnight and pray that they will have enough medicine to actually accommodate the patients that they schedule.

I apologize for my frustration in this email, but honestly I think trained monkeys could do a better job than those people.

PET Scan with Chemo Results

My mom is getting her PET scan tomorrow, which will tell her how effective her chemo treatments have been. She is scheduled for her 6th chemo treatment on Friday and, if the results from the PET scan are good, it could be her last treatment.

My mom is feeling pretty nervous about the results from the PET scan. She would definitely like to beat the cancer and have this be her last treatment. We would all like that too.

We would greatly appreciate all prayers and anyone who could fast.
