    hifructosemag:

Bunnycutlet started out as a brick-and-mortar art gallery. Though it closed its doors indefinitely last year, the project lives on in the form of a traveling curatorial platform. Liz Artinian, the brains of the operation, put together the group show “Bunnycutlet Presents” at Cotton Candy Machine in Brooklyn. The show opens January 16 and features new, surreal, illustration-inspired work by Ryan Heshka, Jean-Paul Mallozzi, Kelly Denato, Ian Ferguson, Christy Karacas, Kristen Liu Wong, and Joohee Park. Check out a few sneak peeks on Hi-Fructose.

#repost from #hifructosemag Thank you for the post! <3

What has always inspired us about Denato’s work is the combination of tumult and delicacy. Her lighting evokes a ghostly quality, sometimes making them appear to glow from within – and her subjects, deeply personalized, are often entangled, floating, and at the mercy of Denato’s repressed fears and hopes.

Opening (This Friday) Jan 16th at Cotton Candy Machine 7-11pm.

This 20-features-in-20-days is a sneak peek of a work-in-progress by New York-based artist Kristen Liu-Wong.

Bunnycutlet Gallery first exhibited Liu-Wong in the Nov-2013 group exhibit, Away From The Numbers curated by Jordin Isip, and we instantly fell in love with her work. Employing #fluorescent #acrylic #paints, #glitter, and #resin, Liu-Wong’s paintings are candy-like and gleeful. Her imagery, which is often wicked or disturbing, is offset by vibrant color. Liu-Wong takes inspiration from traditional #Americanfolk art, but interprets imagery through her lens of contemporary urban life.

2 new works by Liu-Wong will be on view for Bunnycutlet Presents 7 Artists, a group exhibit curated by Liz Artinian, opening Jan 16th at Cotton Candy Machine.

Today’s 7-Artists-In-20-Days feature is this full-image release of The Quiet Battle, an 18 inch square acrylic, mixed media, and metal foil painting by Canadian-born artist Ryan Heshka.

#Heshka’s influences, apparent in his work, are comics, animation, pulp magazines, 50s B-movies, science fiction, and the powerful forces of nature. His work explodes with cinematic energy, yet is often carefully staged, wittily incorporating typography and graphic design, evoking the sensibilities of a Wes Anderson movie or the paintings of frequent Bunnycutlet Gallery contributor Chris George. This will be Heshka’s first time exhibiting with Bunnycutlet.

7 works by Heshka will be on view for Bunnycutlet Presents 7, a group exhibit curated by Liz Artinian, opening Jan 16th at Cotton Candy Machine.

Today’s 7-Artists-In-20-Days image is a sneak peek of a work-in-progress drawing by frequent Bunnycutlet Gallery contributor Christy Karacas.

Karacas is the co-creator and director of the Adult Swim animated series Superjail! His drawings often employ simple media, like 2B pencil on roll paper, and his lines are clean and smudge-free. By contrast, his imagery is chaotic and complex, energetically exploding into meticulous landscapes of comic violence (in this case, cats vs. robots).

New work by Karacas will be on view for Bunnycutlet Presents 7, an exhibit at Cotton Candy Machine opening Friday, January 16th, 7-11pm (2015)

First up for our 7-Artists-In-20-Days feature series is this sneak peek snippet of Company Call, a 9 x 12 inch mixed media drawing by NYC based artist Ian “Hydeon” Ferguson.

Bunnycutlet Gallery first crossed paths with Ferguson at SCOPE Miami (2013), and instantly connected with his work. Ferguson employs India Ink, pencil, and acrylic on paper, combining graphic design (his training) with illustration and kinetic, strategically placed “scribbles.” Ferguson creates elaborately decorated characters swirling in surreal landscapes and kinetic “scribbles,” a visual processing of the artist’s emotions and life-events. His work borrows from American folk art, street art, illustration, and contemporary fine art. This will be Ferguson’s first time exhibiting with Bunnycutlet and Cotton Candy Machine.

On view for Bunnycutlet Presents 7, at Cotton Candy Machine.
