The Move

On August 11, we left for Virginia.  Our moving truck was absolutely packed and our car was towed behind.  We got a great deal on our moving truck and we were so happy to have everything ready to go.  Since Staci was visiting from Maryland, she volunteered to take Lincoln back with her to Maryland since he was free.  I cannot thank her enough!  She already had 3 children to take home with her and she was an absolute saint to volunteer to take Lincoln on the 4 hour flight home.  Brett and I were beyond excited to not have Lincoln in the car with us on the 36 hour drive...

 On the road...
To be honest the first day was the worst.  Driving through Wyoming is not exciting in the slightest.  Our goal was Kearney, Nebraska and we made it there around 10pm.  We stayed at a cozy Holiday Inn.

The next morning we got up and drove through Lincoln, Kansas City, St. Louis, Louisville, and then stopped in Shelbysville, Kentucky at another Holiday Inn.

We saw a lot of corn on those days...
And the new Kansas City Temple...
 Stopped for some delicious Chipotle...
Made it safely through St. Louis and over the Mississippi...
Only to find more corn and fields...
It really was so beautiful and so fun to see the country.  (Especially without Lincoln, thank you Staci and Claire!)
The next day we went through Lexington, Charleston, and finally made it to Charlottesville!

Meanwhile...Staci boarded a plane.  Bless her heart.

1. We're so grateful to be here in Charlottesville and doing something new!
2. Staci.

Doctor Mellor

Brett graduated with his PhD on August 10th.  I am so proud of him!  My parents were out of town, but Bob and Claire were able to join us for the celebration.  April watched him for us while we were at the graduation and I was so grateful to not have Lincoln wandering around the gym.
It was so fun and rewarding to see Brett up on the stand with the professors with his PhD robes on.

Dr. Mazzeo, Brett's advisor, was out of town so two different Engineering professors put the robes on Brett.  I cried as they read his dissertation title and that he was graduating.  He has worked so, SO hard and I'm so proud of him!!!  Thanks to our family, too, for making it possible and supporting us the whole way.  We are so grateful for you!
Classic Graduation photo at the BYU sign, "The World Is Our Campus".  Right after we left a huge crowd of people swarmed the sign to take photos.   After we went to the Old Spaghetti Factory and enjoyed a yummy lunch in the trolley car.  A great day long in the making!! :)
1. Dielectric Spectroscopy :)
2. PhD.
3. Family support that made it all possible!
