Discovery Gateway

After at least a year of saying I need to take Bear to Discovery Gateway, I actually finally did.  It wasn't as big or quite as cool as I expected, but there were a few things Barrett liked.
He probably would've stayed in the ball area the whole time if we let him.

He loved the water too though.

Rock climbing.

There were about million annoying field trip kids (as evidenced here).
Once he had the screen to himself, he just wanted to be grumpy.

My parents are obsessed with watching the weather, so we put him in front of the weather screen and then he smiled so we could show Pops and Lala.

A really fun little construction zone.

And a great big helicopter out on the roof.

Birthdays and Art

This weekend I went out with Jen, Diane, and Michele to celebrate Jen's upcoming birthday.  We went to a Liquid Canvas in Ogden and then out to dinner at Sonora Grill.

I brought it home and intended to throw it in the garbage, but when I asked my dad to take it out for me, he said he wanted to put it in the garage for a while.  So, it's decorating the garage for now.

We had Jeff's birthday dinner a week or two ago too.

Blake found this picture that someone drew of Neil as a kid.  No one knows who drew it though and his parents don't even remember ever seeing it before.  It's a mystery.

Etcetera

My dad got a copy of this old Central Davis Junior High newspaper from the year he ran for SBO.

I thought this was funny.  I definitely would not say we're hipsters. At all.

He put on his yellow boca hat last week and said, "LaLa will be so happy with my yellow boca!"

Barrett's response to just about everything these days is, "hmmmm that's weird"
When I tell him he has ___ minutes until we have to do something, he always gasps and says, "We're wasting our time!"

When we play a game, he always lets everyone else choose what color they want to be first and then he gets whatever's last.  Unless of course we're playing light savers (light sabers), he always wants the red one.

He's still in his big boy bed and it's gotten much better.  Originally, I put a clock in his room and told him he could get out of bed when it was 7:00.  What ended up happening every day for a week is he'd wake up at 5:30, go potty, get back in bed (or come downstairs a time or two), and then just stare at the clock until it was 7.  At exactly 7 am, he'd come downstairs and officially start his day. That was not working for me at all.
This week, I decided to unplug his clock and tell him it was broken, then we went back to telling him to wake up when the sun comes up (that's what I'd tell him when he slept in his crib) and that has made HUGE difference!  He's woken up once at 5:30 to go potty but he went back to bed and slept until I woke him up at 8!  I like this much better!

He calls Ninja Turtles "engine turtles" and hamburgers "hangabers"  I love his mispronunciations.

20 Weeks

How Far Along:  20 Weeks
Size of Baby: Mango- and weighs 11 oz according to the ultrasound tech
Maternity Clothes: I’ve been in kind of an awkward stage where my regular shirts were way too small but a lot of my maternity tops were too big.  That’s a problem I’ll probably long for in a few short weeks, but I’ve just been kind of in-between sizes I guess.  Maternity pants are a MUST and also, I wear a lot of sweats. Thanks goodness it’s winter.
Gender: Still a girl- although I’ll be asking them to check every time just to make sure!
Name: I really haven’t been thinking about this because I have a feeling that even if we agreed on and officially picked a name, I’d get sick of it a few weeks before the baby is born and we’d have to start all over.
Movement: During week 18 (I think) is when I for sure knew it was baby moving inside.  Sometime during week 19, I could even feel the movements on my hand as it rested on my belly.  This has been a huge relief because for a while I was thinking I was having some sort of psychosomatic episode and that my pregnancy was all in my head (even though I’d seen several ultrasounds).
Sleep: I am SO much more tired than I remember being when I was pregnant with Barrett.  I was teaching full time during my entire 1st and 3rd trimesters when I was pregnant with him so I didn’t get a lot of rest and I definitely didn’t get my daily nap!  This time around, I’m spending more time working out and I have a three year old to take care of constantly, but I’m also able to take a nap almost every day when he does.  I don’t know what I’d do without naptime!
Exercise/Activity Level: Through the holidays, I skipped a few days just because I was tired or had other things going on, but overall, I’ve still been hitting up the gym as per usual.  I often will skip abs now though, because, what’s the point?!
Weight: Just for my own interests sake, I weighed 132 lbs.  I really haven't cared or kept track of this at all this pregnancy.  With Barrett, I weighed myself weekly and even made a hilarious graph of my weight gain!
Cravings: Neil brought home some sushi the other night and I was sooo tempted to just have 1 piece.  I didn't though.
Symptoms: I’m not very fond of the fact that I’m as hairy as a wild animal.  I need to be getting waxed about once a week right now!  I’ve started getting the itchy belly skin already.  At the end of my 16th week, I started getting migraines again (I get them occasionally when I’m not pregnant too).  I got 3 in 5 days and it was pretty miserable.
Weird Things: I think I look more pregnant in my butt and thighs than I do in my belly!  They’re growing at twice the rate the baby is!
Worries: I’m a little worried that the baby is completely malnourished.  Not for lack of calories of course, just for lack of any sort of nutrient.  I should probably eat a little more on the healthy side for her sake.  Also, that could explain why my thighs are “growing” so fast.
Best Moment of the Week(s): The other day, Neil would feel her moving too and his face was so shocked and cute!  He’s been able to feel her kicking quite a bit in the last few days.
Appointments This Week: We had our 20 week targeted ultrasound this week and it was so fun to see the baby again!  She did 3D pictures that totally blew my mind!  They did those with Bear too but it still is just the craziest thing to see!  Barrett came to the appointment and was excited to see pictures of his baby sister.
Something I've Learned/Realized: I don’t know why but this pregnancy seems a little more difficult than my first.  Maybe it’s because I have another child to take care of, maybe it’s because it’s a girl this time, I have no idea. Neil was telling our friend Ashley that I’ve been more tired and weak this time around, and she said, “Girls will do that to ya!  This is just the beginning of it!”  I thought that was pretty funny.

Pictures:

20 Weeks

She moved nonstop during the appointment and loves having her hands and feet up by her face! (I know they're not very clear pictures)

Moving On Up

Ever since Bear got sick again in December, he's gotten into a really bad habit of waking up at least once a night and fussing or wanting to go potty.  Since he's no longer sick, I have gotten really sick of having to go up there at least once a night and take him potty.  I finally decided to put him in his toddler bed last weekend so that I could hopefully get more sleep.  Plus, I figured we had to do it eventually and I wanted it done before the baby is born.
It has gone better than I expected!  Nap time has gone better than night time, and mornings have been a little rough so far, but we are getting the hang of it!

I've wanted a video monitor since he was about 2 years old and I finally got one in preparation for the new baby.  It's come in REALLY handy to have with this transition!  We can see him all the time but we can also talk to him to tell him to get back in bed!

Hasta Luego!

We had to go say goodbye to Papa and Grandma last night before they left for Peru this morning.  We should be seeing them again around Christmas time, but I've already heard talk of extending...

Bear and Grandma were playing basketball in this garbage can.

Stretch Marks (Boo!)

We all know that stretch marks are a part of life and especially a part of pregnancy for most women.  They suck.  I was really lucky with my first pregnancy and even though I did get a few stretch marks, they're small, white and not super noticeable.
Even if it's a huge scam (right Georgy!?), I use creams to try to avoid any more stretch marks but I can't find a cheap one that I like.  I figure, it can't hurt to use something and I would be using lotion all over anyways, so why not buy a stretch mark lotion?
This is the latest one I bought and I don't like the smell at all- although I have gotten a little more used to it.

I used this one towards the end of my last pregnancy and I really hate the smell of it!

This one I absolutely LOVE.  It feels good and it smells good but it's $35-40 and only lasts me a month.  I used this during the first trimester with Barrett and this time, but I just can't spend that much money on something that might not even work!
If you have good suggestions, let me know!  I need to try something new.

**update: Here's 2 more things that I've tried.
This one smells a little weird but not too bad.  It's oil but I didn't notice it staining any of my clothes.  I usually put it on before bed though, so maybe that's why.  It was about $15.00 on Amazon.

This one smells like baby lotion (which I'm actually not a huge fan of- especially on adults).  It's oily but also kind of sticky (sticky isn't the word I want, but I can't think of another one right now).  It lasted a lot longer on my body, but I thought the tube was pretty hard to squeeze. This was only $4 at Target!  I still got an itchy belly on occasion, but didn't feel dry when I used this.  I think this may have been my winner.  I did notice that after months and months of using it, my night shirt was definitely stained a little darker.

What's Up This Week

I love that Bear still likes to cuddle.

Neil took on a pretty big project of removing the wallpaper in our bathroom to get it ready for some updating!

Bear and I met Neil down at City Creek one day for a little shopping and some lunch.  It was nice!

Bear moved up to Sunbeams last week at church.  He only stayed for the sharing time hour of it, but I think he liked it. (He says he didn't but when we kept peeking on him, he was doing fine.) I got moved into a calling as young women's personal progress advisor this year.  It's the first calling I've had in like, 7 or 8 years probably!  I was reluctant to take the job, but ultimately did...
Neil's parents got set apart as missionaries on Sunday.  They're doing a little bit of MTC training this week and then they move to Peru on Monday.
I think we got everyone in this picture except Mary who was having a minor meltdown.

My aunt Jan sent out some great pictures the other day celebrating what would've been my Grandpa RJ's 90th birthday.  I've never seen this first picture before- in fact, I've only seen maybe one picture of my great grandpa ever until now.
This is (from l to r) my uncle Daniel Dee, my uncle Robert Dennis, my grandpa Robert Juel, my great grandpa Juel, and my dad John Juel.

My grandpa's army picture.

Neil's older brother Blake got married in September http://www.callsandneils.blogspot.com/2014/09/wedding-of-year.html
They JUST got their pictures back from their photographer and I hd to steal a few to add to the blog book.
Barrett was the ring bearer, in case you forgot.

I love this family picture.  It's only missing Monica's husband, Kurt, because he had signed up to race Lotoja months before.

New Years 2014

We started New Years Eve at my parent's house with everyone.  Ate some good food and played some fun games.

We put Bear to bed and then went to Bruce and Diane's house.

We played 2 awesome rounds of LCR.  Neil won the first one.

And Diane won the second.

Then we did karaoke, which was hilarious and embarrassing.
Diane and Bruce, Rory and Jen, newly engaged Cam and Michele, and me and Neil.
