As I type it is about an hour and a half away from 2008. I was going to take a shot of NyQuil and go to bed, but I am awaiting a guy who is attempting to jump a motorcycle the entire length of a football field. I am fighting a cold that seems to have been passed throughout our house. Auburn just beat Clemson in OT and Camden is asleep in bed. As a kid I remember watching Evil Knievel as a kid and now being a father I wonder what Camden will remember from his childhood. No pictures this time (sorry).
Lets take a look back at 2007...
In January Ashlee was about five months pregnant. We went to Bixoli for a weekend and gambled at the Beau Rivage. I guess that was the last trip we took for a while. The next few months we were preparing for the great unknown. I painted the nursery white and installed Camden's surf board fan. One night while Ashlee was out I put together the crib as a surprise when she got home.
In March Ashlee had a car wreck (not her fault) that scared us to death. She called me at work screaming into the phone. I got there very fast (remember there are blue lights on my car). We spend the rest of the day in the hospital making sure nothing went wrong in her belly. All was well inside, but it took forever for the car to get fixed.
Then April arrived. We had all of the suspense taken out of the equation. We got up bright and early April fifth and drove to Brookwood hospital. Neither of us got much sleep that night. April fifth will be a day that we will never forget. I remember being very proud of Ashlee and thinking how our lives would never be the same. The three of us went home Easter Sunday which made the day even more special. Our first anniversary was a few weeks later on the 29Th. We went out to eat at Ross Bridge (where we got married). I didn't tell her but she figured it out on the drive there. It felt very weird leaving Camden with someone else. We didn't stay our very long (I think we both missed him).
The summer months are pretty much a blurr. Ashlee and Camden went to the beach for two weeks. I joined them the second week. He did better than I could have imagined. Ashlee waited for my arrival before Camden was dunked in the pool. The first time he wasn't real thrilled, but he got use to it.
The Spring and Fall got busier. Football season does that to our family. Then add in moving into a new house. Well, we are moved in now and really enjoying the new place. It is starting to feel like home and a place we will be at for a long long time. Ashlee and I share birthdays a few days apart. So it is always fun around the end of October.
December brought our first Christmas with Camden. It was a real joy and something that I know will be even more fun next year.
We usually see a few concerts each year. This year two shows really stick out. We saw Ray Lamontagne over the summer and Ben Harper this winter at the Alabama Theater. Both shows were amazing. Having a little one has cut down the amount of shows we attend, but we still go to a few big ones.
Looking forward to 2008 I pray for more patience. I want to be a better father and husband. I want to be more patient and know there are bumps in every road. I have been blessed with more than one man could ever hope for. I hope for health and happiness for all of our family and friends. It has been a wonderful year and hope 2008 is half this good.
The guy is about to attempt his jump...see you all next year.
Happy new Year,
Chris
