Trick or Treat!

Last year I didn't get around to posting pictures from our Halloween festivities, but I am already getting excited to do it all again this year!! We got the idea from my darling sister-in-law to pass out cotton candy on Halloween instead of the usual treats! I dressed up as a witch, covered the cotton candy machine with purple vinyl tablecloths in attempts to make it look like a cauldron, and posted a sign that said, "Witch's Brew"!

We passed out mini cotton candy to all the trick-or-treaters and had a blast! This year I plan to decorate the tent with some (gasp) tissue balls and am going to try getting the cotton candy a purple or orange color (with the help of a little gelatin)!! Only 18 more days!!!!

{Oh and that adorable Trick or Treat Tin was delivered to my house earlier in the month FULL of candy courtesy of Amy B., she used scrapbook paper and her cricuit to cut out all the vinyl polka dots - and then finished it off with a cute black and white polka dot ribbon!!! I love having amazing, generous girlfriends!!}

GNO Beach Party!

Summer....

When the waves kiss your feet

The sand is your seat

And your friends outnumber the stars

This past month I got to host girls night out and was very excited to celebrate the last few breaths of summer with a beach party!

I made some fun retro invites:

I blinged up our pop tent with some fun tissue balls. Got a little carried away and made more tissue balls to adorn the chairs and attached them to the black netting I tied around each chair!

We had an ugliest sunglasses competition (similar to the Christmas party ugliest Christmas sweater contest)!

One of my favorite things (besides the food, cute girlfriends, and unexpected entertainment) was these waterbottles I made. I found this quote and knew I had to use it somehow, so I found a fun retro "Beachy" image and added it to these labels to make some water bottles sure to make you smile (if you're my age anyway)!

A few of us ventured out in the canoe for a little ride around the lake. I am not including the pictures of us beached on the sand. Perhaps we should have gone out on the canoe before we ate!

Speaking of food, we enjoyed a BBQ Chicken Salad (similar to Cheesecake Factory's), seasoned flatbread, grilled pineapple, pina colada slush, and key lime pie for dessert!

I love these girls, we have been getting together monthly since I moved back from New Jersey (11 years ago)!!! For many of us it is the only way we get to see each other and we all treasure these relationships!

Jenny compiled a CD for me of "Summer" songs, which we had playing all evening. Jenny and I entertained everyone with our not so lovely karaoke and dancing! A few of us were ready to venture in for a swim, but we got kicked out, apparently the Lake closes at dark!

The highlight of the night was when these 3 bathing beauties payed us a surprise visit! They borrowed a blue station wagon, donned some lovely swim apparel and came running down the pier, ready to jump in the water. I was laughing so hard, I could hardly breathe, my girlfriends thought I had planned it - no one was more surprised than me, well except perhaps anyone who knows Krista!!! What fun friends!! I am blessed to have such wonderful, fun, crazy friends!

Prepare to Shake Your Bootie and Other Random Funnies

When I was a very little girl (3 ish) my mom was helping me say my prayers one night and she said thank you for our health and strength. I paused for a few moments and tried to process what that meant and then quickly repsonded oh yeah, thank you for our house and street! It is always funny to hear little children's perceptions of what we grown ups are saying.... or singing in Addi's case! A few weeks ago I received a phone call from our babysitter's mother who asked me if I had heard Addi sing "I Love to See the Temple" . I replied that she sings it around the house constantly. She laughed and said no have you heard how she sings the last verse??? Here is Addi's version:

I love to see the Temple, I'm going there someday
To feel the Holy Spirit, to listen and to pray
The Temple is a house of God, a place of love and beauty
I'll prepare myself while I am young, to shake my bootie! (this is my sacred duty)

Gotta love that girl!!

When we went to the temple open house in June she wanted to know why "all you guys coming to my temple"? As soon as we entered the tents outside the temple she wanted to know where the Holy Ghost was! I replied that we don't see him and instead we will feel his presence in our hearts and minds, to which she quickly replied, " I thought this was Jesus' house, the Holy Ghost should be here, I bet he's over there (pointing to a little tunneled off area)!

This morning she asked me to sit by her on her barstool while she was eating her breakfast, before I could even respond she replied "Oh yeah, you can't cause you have a big, big, big, big, big, big, big, bum!"
You gotta love the honesty of a child :)!!

IF............

If you are still checking in on me..............
I'm back!

If you are wondering what we have been up to the past 2 months............
I have been trying to work my little hiney off (but alas it is still present and does not appear to be disappearing anytime soon). I took a second per diem job at a nursing home to help pay the bills (Addi is convinced that I am working so much so that we can save up enough money to buy her a Jasmine dress :))!

We have been playing too!

In May, Ryan and I celebrated our 15 year anniversary down in Las Vegas with our dear friends the Bohmans! And as we all know what happens in vegas, stays in vegas... unless you blog! My sweet and generous brother Ryan provided us with 2 nights in the MGM Grand Hotel, as well as tickets to KA (a Cirque dul Soleil show) and the Blue Man Group! We also had a free dinner at the Craft Steak House! The shows were amazing, the food even more amazing, and the company - the best!!!

Ryan enjoying a taste of all our desserts!

Ryan got chosen to be part of the show and even got painted blue!!

We recently spent 4 days down in Lake Powell with my family and had a marvelous time! The weather was...rainy, but we had a great time and were still able to get in some good ski runs! I love to waterski and was so glad to still be able to get up!! I have been nursing some injuries since January and go to bed each night with several different ice packs - I was really worried that I would not be able to do much at Powell, BUT it must have been just what the doctor ordered because it was the best I have felt in 6 months!! The great news is that I'm back to work and life and still feeling good - yeah!!

If you are wondering if Addi liked the tube............

well... they say a picture is worth a thousand words!

If you can, keep your fingers crossed.................
Ryan just started on some new medication and it seems to be working!!! The problem is that he can't get sick while taking this medication because it is an immunesuppresant and even a small cold can turn into something big and yucky! He only takes 2 shots a month and we are hoping he will be better by next Tuesday to take his second shot. Yep, he caught a little cold down at Lake Powell and apparently Gracie "caught" a little swimmers ear!!

If you are as lucky as me...............
you might get asked to take some senior pictures of someone as cute as this graduate!!

We missed celebrating Spring Break last week, cause mommy was working way too much!!! So we loaded up and snuck in a few adventures this week:

First we traveled to "The Jungle"! The kids wore themselves out chasing all kinds of crazy species!!

We stayed at a lovely Bed and Breakfast. We became very fond of the owners and in fact the children even affectionately refer them to as B-ball Grandpa & Tootsie Roll Grandma (and they do have a striking resemblance to their actual grandparents)!! The kids and I took advantage of the B&B ammenities with a late night swim and a soak in the hot tub.....heaven!

Early the next morning our lovely hosts fed us a yummy breakfast and sent us off to our next adventure.....

The beach!

We hiked all around the rocky shore line, dug for artifacts (some not so pretty) and had a splashing good time!

We were then off to Italy (we would have been crazy not to go, with 2 loaded gift cards)! The kids have decided it was so pretty they can't wait to go back, they didn't care so much for the food, just the pretty scenery!!

We have always heard when in Spain(ahem..SLC) do as the Spaniards do, sooo we ventured out to some of the local hot spots!

The next morning, we were itching for more adventure and so we took a quick trip to Sweden (free breakfast will get you there every time)!

On the way home from Ikea, I mean Sweden, we took a little detour through Brazil and the kids couldn't help but join in a game or 2 of football! Both Parker and Gracie's teams won - yeah!

And last, but not least we decided to end our trip with a visit to a Dude Ranch!

The owners even let us name their newest addition...Eeyore!!

We had some quality family time, wore ourselves out, and the kids have decided to start adding to our SLC jar (formerly known as the DisneyLand jar) because they had such a good time! Sweet!

Disclaimer: All of the above pictures were taken on our "stay"-cation, well except perhaps the one of me getting ready for my late night swim, but I am pretty sure with the right lighting and a whole lotta photoshop that is EXACTLY what I would have looked like!!!
