Umm.... Nevermind.

We have the CUTEST NEPHEWS EVER!

First, there's the five year old who's smarter than we are by a long shot. He loves to play games and can work the TV better than my parents. I'm not even kidding.

And then, there's the almost one year old who screams and runs around like a banshee when his clothes are off. Then as soon as we put them back on, he's the mellowist (I know, I made the word up) kid ever. Seriously. We can't even get him to crack a smile!

And last, there's the sweet almost two month old who sleeps most of the day and has the most perfect little baby smell that I wish came in a perfume. He's the perfect cuddler.

I almost kidnapped all of them.

Until....

I was left for 2 minutes with all of them by.my.self.

One was trying to shove everything he could into his mouth, the oldest was trying to show me a million things and asking me a billion questions all at once and the baby was screaming bloody murder.

I quickly dropped the idea of kidnap and decided... You know what? I can wait on kids.

But they're still the cutest ever!

Maybe I'll post pictures of the evidence tomorrow.

Life as we know it

I feel a lot better about life... it's good to vent. :)

I haven't really posted about what we're doing in life so I thought it was about time. I also had some prompting from a certain someone *ahem* Carol. :) Ha ha.

My auditions went really well! I performed really well so now all I have to do is wait. They told me that they would let me know at the end of December or beginning of January. So, that's what I'm doing. Waiting. Bleh.

To catch up for the past couple of months, Cody and I went to the Greek festival with Camille and Nate. The food was great and we had a lot of fun.

Before Halloween (I know.. it's December ha ha) we made hot cider and caramel apples. It was delicious and a lot of fun.

We sold the Explorer too. We're sad that it's gone but we're loving Betty.

I also cut Cody's hair for the first time. It was so nerve wracking! But I thought it turned out pretty good.

Here I am being nervous.

And the finished product. Yay!

Candice had baby Lincoln a month ago and we still haven't been able to visit. boo. But we're hoping to get there in the next couple of weeks.

He's SO adorable :)

And I can't wait to see these cute kiddos either.

That's it in a nutshell. We have a lot of parties and get togethers this month that we're pretty excited about.
We love Christmas time!

He's a mean one...

Seriously. I CAN.NOT.WAIT. until the next two weeks are over.

School is a royal pain in the... well... you know.

I got a stinking failing grade in my online class because of the stupid professor who doesn't have a heart.
Grinch.
I forgot to turn in two assignments on time.
However, they were only a day late! 0 credit for both.
Which I knew that would happen ahead of time.
I know, I know. He doesn't believe it's possible to forget either.
Well, excuse me Mr. Perfect!
It's hard taking 9 classes, having a job and teaching voice lessons at the same time. BAH!
Then, the icing on the cake is for my last assignment I wasn't as detailed as he would have liked so I got less than half credit.
The assignment was worth over half my grade. I worked hard on it!
When he returns our assignments he usually adds comments on why we missed things. He never said a word on my last one. I searched and searched and searched.
So, I emailed Mr. Grinch and asked him why I got such a low score. He emailed me right back and said he explained very well in the attachment why I did so poorly and that I need to look harder.
I then received another email shortly after with an attachment of my corrections and his not-so-apologetic apology saying he "forgot" to attach it the first time he sent me my grade.
But as he said before, he explained everything very well in the attachment as to why I recieved a low grade and how it is impossible for him to give me a passing grade.
Now I have to retake the stinking class next semester.

I hate school.

and crying.

Looky what I got!

Dear Erika Cardon,

Ohio Light Opera would like to grant you an audition in Salt Lake City on Saturday, November 14 at 2:40 p.m. Please be at the audition location 30 minutes before your audition time. An accompanist will be provided for you. Please have your music organized and ready for them.

*Happy dance*

....

*Scared dance*

....

*WHAT WAS I THINKING?! dance*

....

Oh, and I'm applying for another one in Canada. I have to send in a DVD with a performance of my songs for my audition. Can't afford the plane ticket to Montreal dang it. I'm already sick to my stomach nervous. Is that a bad sign?

p.s. I picked the middle picture if anyone was wondering :)

I'm kind of freaking out.

So... you know how I said I'm sending in applications for summer apprentice programs?

I'M SO NERVOUS/STRESSED/HYPERVENTILATING!!!!

I have to send in a headshot, resume, application and a CD of my songs recorded. Here's the clincher. The one I really want to audition for has auditions in Salt Lake (yay) but the stuff has to be sent by TUESDAY.

What?
Originally it was Monday but since it's a holiday (Columbus Day... who knew? I thought you only celebrated that in elementary school. Hmm) I got permission for Tuesday. Whew! So I had my wonderful MIL take my headshots this morning, I found an accompanist, have to practice hard all weekend and record on Monday morning, fill out the application and type up a resume all before Tuesday morning.
I have a long weekend ahead... AHHH! If you happen to see me next week and I'm bald, now you know why.

Here are a few of my favorite headshots. What do you think?
Ps. They are a little grainy. I had to send them through an email to myself so I had to fix and lower the quality. But I still love them. Thanks a million Mom!

I love this one.

My teacher loves this one. Plus she's a professional and I trust her opinion.

And this one... I like but don't absolutely love.

Even though this is stressful and nerve racking.... I really do love this and find it fun.

Thanks Cody for being so supportive and helpful. And if I do make it... I'm glad you're okay with shipping me off for 4 weeks. :)

Thursday, October 8, 2009

Wow....Really?

I really can't believe that it's been over a month since I've posted! Life has certainly been crazy.

Oh.... and we don't have internet at home. Which, sad to say, I really enjoy.

Urinetown is over (thank goodness) and school is picking up. Don't get me wrong... I LOVED doing Urinetown but I'm really glad that my nights are back and Cody is no longer a stranger. Yay.

Now is the time in school when midterms, projects and busy work are abundant. Just a few more weeks and things will slow down (cross your fingers).

Cody and I can't wait for all the fun things that happen during the fall! Cornmazes, candy corn, caramel apples, Halloween, Murder Mystery Parties, FALL BREAK *jumping for joy*, cooler weather and decorations.

Fall.... I love you with all of my heart.

Speaking of fall and decorations... Camille, my MIL and I made this beauty over conference weekend.
*side note* Wasn't conference wonderful? But then again, when is it not?

I also found a painting that I NEED in my house....

It's called "Music" by Gustav Klimt and I love it.

I can't even begin to describe how much I love it. The first time I saw it... I teared up. Weird? Yeah but it happened. And I found this website that has a copy. I want the real one but seeing as it is in the Louvre it probably won't happen. I also found some sights that do real oil replications but I didn't love them as much.

We wish that we could go to Idaho sometime soon to help my sister and her family because she is on strict bedrest for going into early labor and such and the baby isn't due until December but he's wanting to make an appearence now. We are praying for their family and hoping that she'll hold him in a little longer! :)

Anyway, that's all that has been happening in our lives... school, work and... well that's basically it.

Oh, I'm also sending in applications to get an audition for summer apprentice programs in Ohio and other fun places. I'm so nervous and I hope that I'll get at least one audition. Wish me luck! (Cody too.... I might be a little grumpy until it's done) heh. Poor guy.

YOU HESITATED!!!!

P.s Urinetown is still playing until September 19. PLEASE COME!!!! It really is different than you're thinking. I promise. And now that you know what I look like... how can you resist? :)

P.p.s I got my package from my swap partner and I LOVE IT!!! Pictures to come soon when I can find my darn camera.

P.p.p.s Does anyone know what P.S. stands for? And I've decided to name our Subaru "Black Betty". Thanks for the idea Caitlin! (And everyone else.. I loved them all!)

Proudly introducing...

Our newest family member!
An '05 Subaru Outback.

Any good suggestions for a name? I've always wanted to name a car and I decided to start with this one :)

Wednesday, August 12, 2009

So little time

To whom it may concern:

In the event that you ever need to get ahold of Cody or me (yes, unfortunately, that is grammatically correct) in the months of September to mid-December, the hours that we are available are: 7-8 am and 9-10 pm on weekdays and 1-2 pm on weekends. We're sorry for any inconvience this may cause but due to unforseen (okay... we saw it coming) circumstances we will be involved with school and work full time.

Phone calls only please.

Thank you for your time and we hope to talk with you soon.

Sincerely, soon to be the biggest stress-cases ever,

Cody and Erika

PS: URINETOWN - THE MUSICAL opens August 28th and runs every Friday, Saturday, and Monday nights at 7:30 until September 14th at Heritage Community Theatre in Perry, UT. This is a family friendly show however, I do not think young children will find it interesting enough to sit through. You should come see it. You WILL love it. Have a good day.

A whole lot of catching up....

First off....
Welcome to our new home.
We LOVE it! It's so great having our own place and a GARAGE :) We also have a nice big yard and a garden. I love eating fresh from the garden! The street is quiet, the neighbors are friendly and we have our own yard.
(However... I have sneaking suspicions that someone has been taking from our garden. SAD!! We've contimplated an electrical fence. Or maybe a mean pit bull.)
Just kidding :}
We also have (drum roll please...)
a swing!
Cody surprised me and painted it red this week. I love it!
He also cleaned the carpets and tilled some of the garden. What a guy!! And... I didn't even have to ask. He just did it. I really don't know how I got so lucky :)
The carpets look and feel so much better. They are actually about 3 shades lighter than when we first moved in. Gross huh? It's so nice to walk around bare foot and still feel like you have clean feet.

We've also been to a few weddings the past few weeks. I recently made this gift for a friend. What do you think?
(It's sitting on my table so there is really nothing behind their name.)I absolutely love these! I also made one for my cousin but forgot to get a picture. They are so fun and easy to make and they are all unique.

I also made (with the help of Camille and my mom's supplies) my cousin's sign in book for her wedding last Saturday.

Here are a few of my favorite pages.

I hope she likes it! She had been so busy with wedding preperations all week and also had to work so she didn't have time to do it. I went over and took it home to do it for her. Camille and I did it in under 2 hours and made it to the reception right when it was starting so she didn't have time to see it. I loved it... but I may be a little biased.

As promised, here are some of our Island Park pictures. I don't have that many because I couldn't pull the other pictures off my CD so I'll have to post some others later.
Here's the river that we canoed down. It was so gorgeous!

Love these colors. They are so vibrant.

Mom and Dad behind us... look at the beautiful sky!

And yes... the river was so shallow in some spots that Logan and Cody had to drag us to deeper water. It was a little scary. I was sure that they were going to tip us over. Especially since they would jump out as fast as they could and rock the canoe.
Poor guys though... the water was a freezing 50 something degrees!

I just had to post this... I absolutely LOVE HIS SMILE.

Love the sky in this one.
Isn't this so pretty? The river was calm, quiet, peaceful and it was fun to see the fish jumping and birds feeding.

I would love to go again. It was the most relaxing trip and so fun. We saw a grizzly bear in Yellowstone and went to the Playmill in West Yellowstone and saw Footloose. And there was only mild grumpy-ness due to hunger. All in all, it was an awesome trip. :)

Thanks for everyone's fun comments. I'm a horrible commenter-responder so sorry about that!

Another thing that has happened lately is that Cody and I got a new calling in our ward. We are officially the "Nurturing Couple." We are in charge of the young single adults in our ward and we also teach the sunday school class.

WE LOVE IT!!

We taught for the first time yesterday and it was so fun. Not that I was in their position for very long ( you know... young marriage) I understand how it is to be in-between stages. I'm excited for activities and getting to know them. They're super fun.
Also... Urinetown opens in TWO WEEKS!! Ahh!!
You should come see it. It's definitely worth it.

Oh... and school is in two weeks too. Bleh.

We bought the A lot passes for $100. ouch. But they are worth it and I'm sorry to all those who didn't get one. Really. I know how it is to have to get to school at least 30 minutes early and STILL not get a spot.

All I can say is... Weber State. Great. Great. Great.

Things on my mind today....

#1: A-lot parking passes are $100. WHAT??? To park on campus? RIDICULOUS!
#2: Island Park was SO FUN!! Pictures coming soon. Well, as soon as I can stay home for more than 10 minutes at a time.
#3: Urinetown rehearsals are hard. So many dances to remember..... currently don't have the brain capacity.
#4: One of my biggest pet peeves is when they make a book into a movie and then change the cover of the book to match the movie. The book was there first and the original cover art is usually the best! Leave it alone!
#5: Work is boring.
#6: I LOVE FAMILY.
#7: I'm excited for all the upcoming weddings. Congrats to all of you :) ps... I hope you like the gift I'm making.
#8: Maddox for dinner tonight. YUM.
#9: Meeting with the bishop tonight..... I swear I didn't do it! Oh... wait. They just make me so nervous!
#10: Losing weight really stinks.
#11: Exercising really stinks.
#12: Our house never cools down. Therefore I hate going home which results in a dirty house which results in a grumpy Erika.
#13: I CANNOT WAIT to be done with my Nutrition class. It's been very informative and yes it has helped me eat better but it's been harder than ANY of my upper division major classes.
#14: I wish money really did grow on trees. Or you know... appear magically whenever you needed it.
#15: Babies Babies Babies.
#16: Congrats to Candice on another upcoming boy! I'm brainstorming for the perfect gift.
#17: I can't decide if a Kindle would be worth the $300. Is it better to own the book in paper or electronically?
#18: What to send to my Favorite Swap Partner? I can't wait (or decide)!
#19: GNO with Memorial Park Ward ladies tomorrow at Macaroni Grill.
#20: When I'm the only one at work, with no one to talk to.... I make lists like this one. Lame.

Weekend Adventures

Thursday I kidnapped Cody and took him to see Harry Potter 6. He wasn't too thrilled when I told him where we were going but by the end of the movie he was happy that he went.

We both loved the movie!
I haven't read the book in a while so I'm sure that's why I didn't have any problems with it. Cody hasn't read the last 3 books so he had no idea what was going to happen. It was fun to talk to him about what he thinks will happen next.

Friday we both had the day off because we WERE planning on going out of town for the weekend. Our plans fell through so we watched movies instead :)

We went to the matinee showing of Transformers 2 and were 2 of 10 people in the theatre. It was really nice.

The movie itself was just okay. It got a little long and we both decided we like the first movie better.

I'm going to see this tonight with Camille and Lisa and I can't wait! I hear the movie ending and the book ending are different. That really ticks me off.
But I'm excited to see it nontheless.

What's up next?

Tuesday...Rodeo

Thursday..... Island Park all weekend!

So guess what?

NO.... I'm not pregnant.

Although it seems like the rest of the world is jumping on the bandwagon. Just one more year of school. I can make it.... Right?

Anyway...

Remember THIS post?

I. JUST. BOUGHT IT.

Summer....

is definitly going by too fast.

We're now all the way moved in to our new house and are loving it (minus the no AC or swamp part). But we're surviving the heat with 5 fans and windows open 24/7.

It's weird getting accustomed to the new noises. Right after we moved in, we were going to bed and our fan just shut off on its own. I almost peed my pants. Cody got up and checked the lights. Turned out the electricity was out.

Last night at around 3 or 4 our bedroom door SLAMMED shut. I almost had a heart attack. Cody did too. Turned out it was just windy and we had both windows open and a fan going. I still couldn't fall asleep after that.

Stupid imagination involving killers.

Here's what we are up to the rest of the month (we're almost half way through already, wow!)
  • Saturday the 11th, my Grandma Hubbard became the new Grandma McDonald. We're just going from one nursery rhyme to the next. We love her new husband Van.
  • Sunday the 12th, we celebrated Gramp's 80th birthday. He sure loves his family and we're so grateful for him.
  • We might go to St. George this weekend... we might go to Idaho Falls. We don't know yet but we ARE going somewhere.
  • Next weekend, over the 24th, we're going to Island Park with the Cardon's. We can't wait!
  • The day after we get back, Cody is scheduled to take the GMAT. I think I'm more nervous than he is. He REALLY wants to get into the Master's program this Fall.
  • Urinetown rehearsals Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays. I'm Little Becky Two Shoes. It's so fun!
  • GNO with my old ward to The Macaroni Grill... my favorite place!
  • And Cody for sure will fit in fishing and shooting as much as possible.

Sometime, we would like to see Harry Potter, Transformers 2 and My Sisters Keeper (well... probably not Cody on this one). Although, I'm pretty sure the book My Sisters Keeper will be better than the movie.

Sometime in all this, I have to find time to weed the garden and decorate the house. WE LOVE SUMMER!!!

But sometimes between the parties, work and school.... it's nice to do nothing at all.

*Clarification on last post*

Cody knows he does this. He says he can't help it. It's a big joke between us and I love him for it :)

Thursday, July 2, 2009

You know what makes me grumpy?

When Cody comes home and asks me to do something (be it grocery shopping, running errands that I have planned for the next day, or anything I'm not really in the mood for) and I KINDLY turn him down to which he replies...

"Why are you so grumpy?"

Wait....What?

All I said was I didn't want to do it. That makes me grumpy?

Go figure!
It just so happens that 9 times out of 10, I've been pleasant all day.

10 times out of 10, after he poses that question I'm grumpy the rest of the night.

Your wish has now been granted. ENJOY!

Monday, June 29, 2009

I admit it... I stole this from someone else

Who stole it from somone else... ect.
Camille had this on her blog and I think that it's the cutest idea!

Check out the info here on what it's all about and how to sign up.
It's always fun to try something new.... and it'll be fun to find things to swap!

Thursday, June 25, 2009

This is what I feel like right now...

We're almost completely packed up thanks to the help of my mom.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

We got the bedroom, living room and part of the storage room packed up in 2 1/2 hours and the kitchen in less than an hour.

If I had been on my own, it would have taken me all day just to do the living room!
We're trying to be out by Saturday and we are almost there.

WHOO HOO!!

Although... I feel like I have nothing to do but clean and pack more when I'm home because our movies, books, games and food (yes, the food... we're living on cereal the rest of the week) are all packed.

Oh well, it'll just get done faster, hopefully!

Happy Father's Day!

Just a little shout out to my dad :)
He's always been there for me and encouraged me to make the right decisions.
I really could go on and on, but I don't want to bore anyone so...
I love you Dad!
You're the greatest!
This weekend, Camille and I went and saw this..

and LOVED IT!!
(Ramone... he he he)

And I have to echo Camille's sentiments when she said
It reminded me why I have a crush on Ryan Reynolds.

WOW
*drool*

Lust isn't a bad thing... right?
Just kidding he..he...he

My heart is aching...

I can't stop crying.

Seriously.

All I need is some carpet cleaner and I could get the spots out of my carpet with my tears.

I've been trying to pack for the last couple of days while Cody is gone and I've only done the bookshelf and movies. In TWO days. I never knew I could cry this much! In fact, I never thought that I would be this emotional about moving. But I am. And I can't get over it. There is so much I will miss. I can't even begin to list everything. And we're only moving 15 minutes away!

I was actually doing okay until today. I had kept my emotions at bay and out of the way, well for the most part. Then my mom told me about a one year old boy that got ran over by his mom in the driveway today. One of Parker's friends lives next door to them and his parents called my parents etc. They knew it was bad. There was blood in his mouth, his stomach was getting hard from internal bleeding, and they saw a tire mark on his back (I'm pretty sure).

Can you imagine?? My heart broke in two. But the bishop lived next door and Parker's friends dad came over and gave the little guy a blessing before he was life-flighted to Primary Childrens. I've been worrying all night about it. Then,I just read on Standard.net that he was released with MINOR injuries.

The power of the priesthood is absolutely amazing.

Then, I have to pick up something for Father's Day tomorrow and I wasn't sure when they opened so I looked up the phone number and called. I was expecting a voice mail because, well, it was 10:30 PM. Nope. A guy answered. AT HIS HOME.
What was he doing answering that late??

I almost hung up but decided to ask what their hours were (it was late, I was dilusional)

He laughed and said "Well, it's what, 10:30?"

Yeah....

"So what do you need?"
So I tell him, and he says you're calling for that NOW?!

Well, I wasn't expecting anyone to answer! I felt so stupid, I got off as soon as I could and broke down. Again.

Ugh... I hate being emotional.

Thanks for being a listening ear.

*disclaimer* It's around midnight, I'm tired, emotional and stressed. That should explain everything :)

They didn't go...

It was raining. They went camping in the Uintahs instead.
Whew!!
I feel a little better about that. :)

I Can't Get This Out of my Head.....

Cody will be canoeing and fishing in the back country of Yellowstone the rest of the week and this is all I can think about. I'm getting more nervous by the minute. Of course, Cody welcomes the challenge :)

This is one of his favorite quotes ever about bear attacks.
I guess that is all that really matters in the end.

Busy...Busy...Busy

Wow, so far this summer has been extremelly busy! Here are a few things we have and will be up to. Be prepared, this post is REALLY long.
  • Cody got spoiled for his birthday by getting a .243 Savage. He was so surprised that I got him a gun and bought it all by myself. Good thing I'm now 21 or that would've been hard. :)

  • Two weekends ago I went to Park City with my mom-in-law Annie, Camille, Carly and Lisa for a girls weekend full of scrapbooking, shopping (spending entirely too much money) and eating.

  • Last weekend I was able to go to St. George with my family and Grandma to attend the Utah Summer Games to watch my brother play soccer. During breaks we ate, watched UP (SO GOOD!!), watched kids swim, and me and my Grandma worked on a puzzle and watched movies.
  • This puzzle is called "The Commencment" and is 1000 pieces. We worked on it for over 3 hours and only got a little done. The outside and top of it were done when we got there. She's slowly been working on it.
  • Parker is the farthest on the right in blue. For every game, his teammates wore their hair in blue mohawks. They played hard and for the Gold medal game it rained the whole time. They still won 8-0!!

  • I couldn't get the picture rotated...sorry!
  • Then, on Saturday, my dad got called as the first counselor in the Stake Presidency and Cody's dad got called as the Stake Clerk in another stake. They split the Farr West and Plain City stakes into three to create the Farr West, Plain City, and Farr West Poplar Stakes. Cody and I are moving out to Farr West in two weeks and even though we are living 5 minutes from my parents, we are now in a different stake but we're still in Cody's parents stake. I'm a little bummed but really excited for my dad.
  • Elder Holland came out to interview and create the new stakes and we were able to hear him speak at the adult Saturday night session and during stake conference. We were also able to sit in for my dad's setting apart and just thinking about it still makes me cry. His talks were absolutely amazing. There really are no words to describe it.
  • He spoke on how to get through the hard times in your life. You need to rely on God and know that He knows you and will not leave you. I have a lot of notes but wish I could've recorded the whole thing. He spoke of blessings, promises, gave guidance and shared his love of the gospel and everyone in the church. He is very straight forward and serious but also has an awesome sense of humor and is really laid back.
  • A new 70, Elder Carlson, set apart my dad. He is a 4 star general in the Air Force, became a member his sophmore year in high school, and served as a bishop for one year. He just got a job with the Pentagon too. How awesome! He was really funny and the nicest guy.
  • The spirit was absolutely incredible. I will never forget it. I was emotional all day yesterday. I always want to feel that way... well, not the emotional/crying bit but I want to just be a better person spiritually. I could go on and on. Oh wait... I already have :)

  • This weekend Cody, his dad, Logan and his friend are going on a fishing/canoeing trip into the back country of Yellowstone. Buffalo, wolves and bears, OH MY!
  • I don't really know if there will be buffalo but there are wolves and bears back there. I'm a little nervous and trying not to think about those things.

  • I should probably end this monsterous post but I'm going to see The Proposal saturday, try out for Urinetown the same day, we'll go see Transformers 2 when it comes out, and pack up our apt. the next 2 weeks, as well as finish summer school. What was I thinking taking classes?

We're already exhausted.

Happy Birfday!

Happy 25th Birthday Cody!!
Well... tomorrow. I just won't have a chance to post it later :)

Thanks for always being so great and wonderful. You're always making me laugh and see the brighter side in life. LOVE YOU BABE!!!
