7 Months!

This has been a really good week! To start off, we had three baptisms this week!!! Cely, Ana, and William!!! They are doing super well, and Ana has literally been telling everyone she sees to get baptised!! :) So this week we are pushing really hard to get Denise and Joakin baptised. They are both 100% ready, they just won't say yes, so we are going to help them clear up any doubts!
The work here in Ribera Grande has been going really well, and the future is looking bright for this area! We still have not been split yet, and we are waiting to see what happens, but we keep getting calls like it will be soon!

We have found some new people to teach, but we will need to sit down with them a little more to find out if they will be good for the future! It's kind of nice and kind of not, but all the people here will talk with you or let you into their house. But a lot of times, they have no intention of making any changes! Sometimes I wish they would just say "I don't want to talk you." It's weird, but we lose time sometimes teaching people who are not going to progress!

This week, something I learned is that you can always find answers and comfort in the scriptures! I have been kind of stressed lately (lots of work that needs to happen w/ investigators and the mission area), but I know I can find answers in the scriptures, and I am so grateful for that! :) I wish you all the best, and hope that you have an awesome week! :) Fica Fixe!

Staying in Ribera Grande!

Check what I did with the family Christmas card
So, we are at the start of a new transfer, but nothing changed for me! I'm still here and with the same comp!

This last week was a good week! We are set up to have 4, maybe 5 baptisms next week!! I'm really looking forward to that! :) Cely and Ana will be the first members here in PovoaƧao. William is this kid who has been coming to church for 6 weeks, but we only started teaching him two weeks ago! Man, he is a super stud!! Then Joakim and Denise are maybes. We have been working with them and they are ready to go, they just haven't accepted the date yet... Any prayers for them would be greatly appreciated!!
You don't drink water unless it goes through here
We are kind of tight on time today, but I read a talk that I really loved, and I think everyone should apply in their lives! I was looking at my life and it rings so true what he says!!

From:  "Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ" by Kevin W. Pearson! The whole talk is super good! And all of April 2009 (Ensign magazine) for that matter!! :) He said:

"We do have a choice. We get what we focus on consistently. Because there is an opposition in all things, there are forces that erode our faith. Some are the result of Satan’s direct influence. But for others, we have no one but ourselves to blame. These stem from personal tendencies, attitudes, and habits we can learn to change. I will refer to these influences as the “Six Destructive Ds.” As I do, consider their influence on you or your children.

First is doubt. Doubt is not a principle of the gospel. It does not come from the Light of Christ or the influence of the Holy Ghost. Doubt is a negative emotion related to fear. It comes from a lack of confidence in one’s self or abilities. It is inconsistent with our divine identity as children of God.

Doubt leads to discouragement. Discouragement comes from missed expectations. Chronic discouragement leads to lower expectations, decreased effort, weakened desire, and greater difficulty feeling and following the Spirit (see Preach My Gospel [2004], 10). Discouragement and despair are the very antithesis of faith.

Discouragement leads to distraction, a lack of focus. Distraction eliminates the very focus the eye of faith requires. Discouragement and distraction are two of Satan’s most effective tools, but they are also bad habits.

Distraction leads to a lack of diligence, a reduced commitment to remain true and faithful and to carry on through despite hardship and disappointment. Disappointment is an inevitable part of life, but it need not lead to doubt, discouragement, distraction, or lack of diligence.

If not reversed, this path ultimately leads to disobedience, which undermines the very basis of faith. So often the result is disbelief, the conscious or unconscious refusal to believe.

The scriptures describe disbelief as the state of having chosen to harden one’s heart. It is to be past feeling.

These Six Destructive Ds—doubt, discouragement, distraction, lack of diligence, disobedience, and disbelief—all erode and destroy our faith. We can choose to avoid and overcome them.

Challenging times require greater spiritual power. Consider carefully the Savior’s promise: “If ye will have faith in me ye shall have power to do whatsoever thing is expedient in me” (Moroni 7:33).

I humbly declare that God, our Heavenly Father, lives and loves each of us, His children. Jesus Christ is our Savior and Redeemer. He lives and personally leads His Church through President Monson, His anointed prophet. Because He lives, there is always hope smiling brightly before us. In a household of faith, there is no need to fear or doubt. Choose to live by faith and not fear. In the sacred name of Jesus Christ, amen."
That's all I have for this week!

January something... :)

Hey all! This week went really well! We finally got the work really rolling here in Ribera Grande and the work on our chapel is moving great! We should be in there by the end of January! We have a few investigators that are progressing really well! The promising ones are Celly, William, Joakim, and the family of Joakima (5 members.) It still amazes me how many golden people we find in this area!

My comp and I know that on the next transfer our area is going to be split, so we will both be getting new companions. :) I don't know yet, of course, who my new comp will be, but there is one elder who I would call my best friend in the mission! :) His name is Elder Drawe, he is from Saint George, and he is such a stud! I love that guy and we would kill it if we served together! :) We just get along really well! :) We will do stuff after the mission-already planned! :)

My awesome story for the week is that we have started teaching a guy named Ladymir, and the first lesson went well! He said he was a big-time smoker, so we taught the "palavera de sabadoria"! (Word of Wisdom, a revealed counsel of health). He said he smoked like 20 a day or more!!! So we set another appointment. On our way to the second lesson, we met him in the road and he had a cigarette in his hand. So I told him, "Throw it away!" and he hesitated, looked at it, then looked the other way and chucked it!!! You could see the pain in his face, and it looked like he had just lit the thing, but he is such a stud!!! He said he had only smoked three up to that day!!! So I have great hope for this guy! :)

We also had a boss (good/great) branch activity that really brought our branch together! Something we have really been needing! :)

Is it bad if i take advantage of leaving my house with out my normal look? ;)

Happy New Year!

Update from the little islands that no one ever seems to know about! :) All is sick (great) and we are loving life here in Africa! :) Happy 2014 tudo mundo!!!

To start off, I want to give a shout out to all of those who sent letters or cards! I loved them all!! Some may still be sitting in Praia (sorry family still waiting on your package) but thank you to the Smith family, Karren family, Larsen family, and Thompson/Pynn families! :) A little love around Christmas is awesome! If anyone else sent something I might get it in April! (not sure if he's kidding...) We will see ;)

So New Year's was crazy here!! The party starts at 6:00pm on the 31 and ends at midnight of the 1. So hello crazy amounts of drunk people! Our president actually ended our day on the 31 at 7 :) The next day we only taught members because the whole world was partying!

This week we had the baptism of Hodairson (sp?)! He is the brother of Keven who was baptized 2 weeks ago! We also have three really awesome investigators here in Povoacao and they all came to the baptism and to church! It was way sweet! The work is really growing and we are loving life out here!

Good news!! Our chapel was finally started (being converted from an existing structure), and should be done here in the next 15 days, and that will make our lives so much easier!!! It looks super cool! (I will send pics when done!)

We are in week 5 of this transfer and me and my comp know that we will be split and by minis (?).... that's not a really good thing :/  Oh well, the work goes on! :) That's about it for this week. I wish you all the best!

Love,
Elder Naylor
