September 2012

This month started out with the long-awaited pig roast. Jeremy has been planning this for about a year!  Before we even left Germany he bought a Caja China and watched lots of youtube videos to learn how to roast the perfect pig.  He had about 7 old college friends travel from all over the country and we had invited close to 80 people for the event.
The night before the roast the guys are carefully marinating and seasoning their 80# hog

Now, since moving to Kansas all we heard was how badly we needed rain.  We were in a national crisis due to a prolonged drought.  It was over 100 degrees most days and HOT!!!  Wouldn't you know it... the day it finally decides to rain is the day of our roast!?!  And I don't just mean "rain" this was a torrential downpour!!!

Right behind our house is a little creek that had been all dried up ever since we moved here.  It rained so hard and so quickly it was completely flood in a matter of hours.

After freaking out and trying to figure out what to do, Jeremy decided to postpone everything until the next day.  After we called/emailed everyone we all jumped in the pool and swam in the rain!

Culvers for lunch with the gang

Poor little guys, all tuckered out.  They sure don't party like they used to!

The next day the rain had stopped and it was a beautiful day. Unfortunately, only about half of the people we invited could make it since the date had changed.

The hog is securely in place and ready to be roasted

Guests waiting hungrily as delicious smells are filling the air

Grossed out by the pig head

Getting ready to cut

I have to say... I was a little grossed out watching this whole process but it really was tasty!  The guys did a great job!!

I had to take a picture of all of the cars lining our street ( and this is only on one side!).  It was so nice to have so many friends and family be able to spend the day with us!!

And many stayed for the night too!  The die-hards were still swimming even after the sun went down.

The girls finally had enough swimming and built a fort in their room.  Fort, movie, rootbeer floats, friends!

Johnny stayed an extra day so we got some quality time with the our favorite Maverik!!  He treated all of us to Wil Jenny's!!
It sure seemed like an empty house after everyone left.  Jeremy's talking about turning this into an anual Memorial Day tradition.  So, for those of you in the area (and even if you're not!), mark your calendars for Memorial Day 2013!!

This looks like Chuck E Cheese or something, doesn't it?  No, it's the Dentist Office!!  He is eating soft-served ice cream after his check up!!  They sure don't do it like this in Germany!

Aiden's 9-year old birthday!!
Aiden didn't want a big party this year but just wanted a few of his friends from school to come over for a sleepover.  So, that's what we did!

Just getting done watching the Avengers...  What a crazy night!  They are fun kids though!

On Aiden's actual birthday he had a football game.  He wasn't really thrilled about playing on his birthday but he sure does look cute in his uniform!

"watching" the game

That night after the game he got to open presents and have an ice cream cake from DQ (his request!).

We are so proud of you Aiden!  Happy Birthday!!!
