Birmingham

We have been putting miles on the VW lately. Last weekend we went to visit my brother, Miller, in Birmingham. He lives in a really cool old building close to 5 points.
Friday night we had dinner at The Fish Market. It was so yummy and so cheap. Evidently they drive to the coast everyday and buy fresh seafood. You can purchase seafood to go or order off the menu and enjoy a glass of wine. We ordered so much that I didn't eat all of mine. After dinner we met up with some of Miller's classmates and went to Bourbon Street to sing karaoke. If you know us, we don't sing. So we just watched and enjoyed some of the singing if you know what I mean.
Saturday I drug Chad and Miller shopping! We went to Cahaba Cycles and I rode my dream bike! The following picture is not the exact model but the only online photo I could find that was close. Cannondale doesn't sell online.

Maybe I will save enough money to buy one!

Then we had lunch at Flip Burger. It was not at all what I expected. I am still craving a burger. I plan to get my fix on Saturday at the Stables if anyone is interested....

We spent the afternoon at The Summit! On our way back to Miller's we hit up Whole Foods. I really wish Tupelo had one.

Saturday night we grilled steaks and went to BAAM Fest.
Originally The Benders now known as Ironwood Bluff were suppose to play at Zydeco on Saturday night. A long strange turn of events required them to cancel. The short version is Stella Root (Chris's Daughter) had surgery on Friday night. She is home and doing well.
Since they didn't play we went to Rogue Tavern and Zydeco to hear music. It was fun going to hear some local Birmingham Bands.

Sunday we grabbed lunch at Tzatziki's on the way out of town.
It was a great weekend and we have been non-stop this week. Looking forward to staying home this weekend.

Have a great week!

Elvis Week

Last week was Elvis Week aka Death Week! On Tuesday fans from all over the world flocked to Tupelo for Fan Appreciation Day at The Elvis Presley Birthplace. Elvis means so much to so many even today.
On Tuesday night we had a send off party for Kevin Mills (The Tupelo Tribute Artist Winner).

Kevin represented Tupelo in the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Competition in Memphis on Thursday and Friday. Kevin was 1st runner up in the competition but is still Tupelo's #1! It was amazing being at the Orpheum for the competition on Friday night! Chad and I stayed the weekend in Memphis after the competition. We haven't done that in a long time so we went to almost all my favorite places ... Outdoors Inc, Fresh Market, Whole Foods, Busters and Raffe's!

Saturday Afternoon we met up with a bunch of friends at Local on Main.

We were having so much fun that we moved on to Blue Fin for sushi and people watching. Blue Fin was the 2nd stop on the stumbling Elvis pub crawl. We even ran into some people we knew!

We rounded out our trip on Sunday with lunch in Southaven with The Hildreth's (Beth, Barry, Sean, Mason). Sunday night Chad grilled the portabella and Veal that we purchased on Saturday. We had a nice and relaxing evening to get us ready for a busy work week.

This and That...

Since Pete's Birthday we have be going, and going, and going. Kinda like the Energizer Bunny! 2 weekends ago (7/30-8/1) the Herndon's went to Pickwick with us. It was nice to get away, disconnect, and relax. I am pretty sure Pete had the best time floating. Brian shared his float with Pete. Thanks for helping us spoil him even more!

The week after the lake was packed with meetings leading up to the announcement that was made in Sunday's Paper. The Downtown Tupelo Main Street Association was awarded a $10,000 Grant for Placemaking. Only 1 application could be submitted from each State. We had a 1 in 50 chance, then 1 in 10 chance and finally a 1 in 3 chance. And we won!!!! If you missed the announcement you can read about it online - Click Here!

Last Friday (8/6) the Benders Played at Woody's to a packed crowd. Thanks to everyone who came out to support them. They are getting closer to finishing their 1st Album. On Saturday August 21st they are playing at Zydeco in Birmingham, AL as part of BAAM Fest. If you will be in the area please join us!
On Saturday (8/7) we did the Tour de Bodock. It was a fun ride but 37 miles in the Mississippi Heat is almost too much. It took us just over 2 hours with 2 rest stops.

This week is another busy one. It is Elvis Week in Memphis! Kevin Mills is the Winner from the Tupelo Tribute Artist Competition that will be representing us! We had a send off party for him last night. More about this week coming soon...
