Our mission begins!! October 20, 2016
I wish I had taken pictures of our first day on our Church Service Mission, but sadly I didn't!! We began on Thursday, October 20, 2016 and worked from 9-6 with a short lunch break. Needless to say we were very tired when we got home and I want to work two half days instead so hopefully we can take care of that this week. What a humbling experience to help at the Bishops Storehouse and see the rewards of part of our church welfare program. Denny worked in back moving cases, pallets, etc. and I helped stock shelves out front as needed and went through with patrons and checked off the items on their order forms. It is very interesting to see the difference in some of the patrons. I helped one young Mom who was there for the very first time and I could really sense her embarrassment and she told me that she had a job interview that afternoon. Others don't even blink an eye about getting the food. Even more, there are some who actually complain about the food that they are getting for free. This is really sad to me that people cannot appreciate what is being done for them so that they can eat and feed their families. So sad! We really enjoyed getting to know the other volunteers and missionaries who serve there. The holidays are approaching and it sounds like it gets just crazy busy, but that will be just fine with me. I would rather be busy than sitting around. Bring it on!! I will take pictures of Elder Cooper and myself when we get our name tags! Yes, we are missionaries and very excited about the work!
My sister is here!!!
On Wednesday, the 19th of October, Lisa and Steve finally made it here to St. George!! Steve got sick along the way so it took them longer than anticipated. I can't believe she is really here. We have had so much fun showing them around the St. George, went to our favorite Cactus Garden, went out to eat, introduced them to Swig Cookies and just spent hours visiting and laughing. Sadly though, Lisa has gotten sick and I sure hope she gets better really soon. They are going to Las Vegas tomorrow, Monday the 24th to the Michael Jackson tribute show and those tickets are spendy!! Prayers for a quick recovery Sista!! They will be here for a month and the time will just go too fast!

Denny is 70!! October 18, 2016
The day has finally come and my dear husband is 70 years old!! If I do say so myself, I think he is a pretty young looking 70 year old!! There are sure a lot of fun free things for a birthday down here, but we decided that we just can't do them all! We still have a couple of weeks to use a couple of them(free meal at Golden Corral and Red Robin) plus breakfast at IHop. Yesterday we started off with a free breakfast at Denny's. We also went to the Cactus Garden, went to Pioneer Park and did some climbing on the rocks and had lunch at Costco. We went to a great movie that called "The Spirit of the Game". It was based on real events about some LDS missionaries who were serving in Australia during the 50's and being asked to coach the country's Olympic Basketball team because the Olympics were taking place in Melbourne and the team really needed help. There were several outstanding basketball players who were serving missions and this was perfect for the Australian team. The missionary team became known as the "Mormon Yankees" and they were also asked to play against other countries so their basketball teams could practice play just before the Olympics. Thanks to the association with basketball which Australia loves and working with the team, it helped to open the doors to teaching people and the Aussies learned to love and respect the missionaries. Please see this movie if you get a chance because it was really good and informative!! Denny had many birthday wishes, gifts and a pretty good day!! Also Happy Birthday to my Grandpa Myer who would be 112 today!!
