Branch Western Party, March 24, 2017

Tonight we attended our 10th Branch closing social. Many of the snow birders are getting ready to go north and this was our last big hoorah! It was a western theme with pulled pork sandwiches, coleslaw, beans, chips and sundaes for dessert. We had a wonderful program put on by two young adults who are siblings.  The young lady played the violin and could fiddle and the young man played the guitar and they both sang beautifully!!  Very nice program for sure!

My eternal companion

I just wanted to put a picture on here that I took of Denny last Sunday, March 19th, 2017. I am so grateful for the good person that he is and the love that he so freely gives to his family. He loves each of us so much and would do anything that he could to make us happy and safe. He has always worked hard to be a good provider, good Dad and good husband. Denny is a quiet man and can be very emotional at times. He feels deeply about things and is not afraid to show it and I am grateful for that. He loves to talk with others and give service when needed. He has a generous big heart and is usually a pretty easy going guy. Denny honors his priesthood and has always been there to use the power of the priesthood when needed for his family. What a good man he is! He loves serving at the Bishop's Storehouse on our mission and I know that he has a strong testimony of the Gospel. He always tries to do his best and we are so thankful that he is a part of our eternal family!!

Car accident - Wednesday, March 22, 2017

Today started out like any other day except for going to the dentist. I had a dental cleaning at 11:00 and came out with a really bad headache so we decided to stop at Smith's Grocery Store and then head home. We had some lunch and Denny wanted to run out to the salvage yard for a replacement tail light covering. Several months ago someone had broke it and we needed to replace it. He got that accomplished and then unfortunately had an accident and our car was totaled. He was at an intersection waiting to go straight and he had waited, the light was green and he proceeded slowly into the intersection and a guy came barreling through the red light from Denny's right side going about 50 miles an hour so Denny ended up hitting him with the right passenger side of our car. The other guy was driving a truck and pulling a trailer and his trailer ended up in the ditch. Of course the guy was cited for running the red light and Denny is doing okay! He doesn't even seem to be sore and was truly protected from it being any worse. Had he been going a little bit faster into the intersection the guy would have hit him broadside and this could have had horrible results. We are just so grateful for the power of protection through our prayers and our loving Heavenly Father. A car can be replaced, but not my eternal companion!!  He could have been seriously injured and he is fine. I keep asking him and he reassures me that he is! The tow truck driver gave Denny a ride home and we got everything out of the car because we knew that we would not be seeing that car again! Really sad because we loved that car and it was running great. Yes, it was getting a lot of miles on it, but we have maintained it and we had a long ways to hopefully go with this car. In an instant things can change and we will just make the best of this. Right now we are waiting to hear from the insurance adjuster and then will have decisions to make. We have a rental car now for two weeks paid for by the other insurance we will start looking seriously next week. We need a break this weekend for sure! I am just so tired of the red lights that drivers run all of the time down here!! We see it all of the time and it happens from even a half of block away!! It is unreal for sure. People are always in such a hurry and driving down here is absolutely frightening. We have had three close calls in the last couple of weeks. A young man driving a truck with a trailer pulled out right in front of us, we were almost ran into the guardrail by a semi truck on the free way and then this one with Denny! We absolutely pray morning and night for safety down here with this traffic. We will finish this mission in October and then we are out of here. Two years that we have enjoyed immensely, but time to switch things up!
We will always treasure the time that we have spent here, but look forward to new adventures and safer drivers!!

Our rental for two weeks, a Dodge Challenger

An edible bouquet was waiting for Denny when we got home from our mission.

Thanks Derrinda Jo for your thoughtfulness and gift!!

March 18, 2017

I told my dear husband that I wanted to go someplace this weekend for a ride where we have not been before!! Well on Friday we went to the Family History Center and we had never been there before so that was good! On Saturday we went a direction that we have been before, but we took the time and drove through some little communities that we have not been through before, saw a couple of reservoirs that we had not been to and had some lunch at a place we had never eaten at. It was absolutely a beautiful sunny day for a ride and we absolutely had a great day!! I still am amazed at the beauty down here, the church history that lies in this area and how we learn something every time that we go out. Whether it be a new fact about someplace or someone, the rocks looking unusually red against the blue sky or the heat of the sun feeling so good, we are just spending the time together and enjoying life. I never want to get to the place where we stop doing all that we can and take things for granted. Life is too precious and short. We are living the best that we can!! You did a good job dear!!
On our way for a new adventurous day!!

We are always seeing so many jets in the sky around here!
