Just a little off the top

I’m not sure how to document the disposition change in this photo. Was it.

A: I hate my new haircut

B: This was fun when I first got up in the seat but now that I have been snipped, clipped and held upside down it’s really not that fun anymore.

I’m going with B, we were there an awful long time. The woman that gave Nate his first haircut (Brandi with an “i”) wasn’t real versed on young children and I think she was afraid of him. I mean Yes, he is squirmy but for goodness sakes woman just cut the hair and let’s move on.

Not a day before he needed it we took Nate for his first haircut last weekend. He was looking a bit like Albert Einstein unless it was slicked down with water. Of course his sister was enjoying squirting him with a spray bottle and using the excuse “his hair was all crazy, I had to fix it”.

He looks like such a little handsome man now.

School Days

Annabelle started preschool last Thursday in this rockin outfit from Aunt Stacie. She looked so damn sweet in her Old Navy sailor outfit, backpack in hand. She hasn’t said a whole lot about it even though we tried to question her several times. She likes it, she was anxious to go back today. So I am guessing that is a good thing.

A few months ago I received a phone call from a woman checking on our address here at work, she needed the information because she was opening a Montessori Preschool on the first floor of our building. It seemed like fate was sending me one of those messages as I had been wondering if I should be looking into school for Annabelle. With the onset on cold weather she was no longer spending her afternoons outside and the confinement proved to be a bit taxing on everyone.

Although we had gone to an Open House the weekend prior I still was anxious about our first drop off. I expected some tears, at least a bit of clinging but no, all I got was a ½ wave as she moved on to check things out.

So it’s all good, our mornings go much smoother than I expected, I enjoy the company on my commute and I have the satisfaction of her getting some educational exposure along with socialization skills while I am still close enough to be there in 2 minutes if needed.

I’ll admit to being a bit melancholy, some days I can’t believe my little baby is such a big girl but mostly I think this time in our lives just so cool.

Happy First Birthday Nate!

Happy First Birthday Nate!

Hey Mister!! That is our greeting, when I get home from work or when I go to get you in the morning or even sometimes just when you have left the room and returned. I say “Hey Mister” and you get the biggest grin. That wonderful 6 tooth, chubby cheek grin that never fails to make me smile too.

You are such a little boy, ornery, on the go, full of determination. You started toddling in your 9th month and by 10 months you were walking. Now at a year you full out run. One of our favorite games is “Duck, Duck, Goose”, except our version is running all around the house and you are right there with us chasing and laughing. Then you get tired and want carried, it is so fun. You sure do love your books and can pick a specific one out of the entire basket. Your favorites include “Brown Bear, Brown Bear” “A Crack in the track” (Thomas the Tank engine, you call all the trains Percy) and “Go Dog Go”. But pretty much they are all your favorite and we read no less than 25 a day.

What a dancer you are! There is music on most of the time at home and you just love to get down. At first you would just bop up & down (like your Dad) but now you have got the whole spinning thing going on. You have excelled at our Music Together class; you dance, play instruments, sing and clap your hands. You love to charm the teacher and she is just as enthralled with you. She has said you have wonderful musical aptitude.

You love to eat! My goodness Nate do you eat. I don’t even know what more to feed you. You are so happy sitting in your chair munching away on goldfish, Cheerios or anything on our plate. You just like to eat and it is such a joy.

There is one thing I want you to know today Nate, on your day of all days. You make us very, very happy. You were such a gift to begin with but as each day passes your incredible sweetness, your loving eyes and mad scientist laugh makes us realize what a treasure we have been given. Every night as I rock you to sleep I say a prayer of thanks for you. My Nathaniel, my very own gift from God.

Happy First Birthday my sweet boy. I love you more than words could express.
