Our new family member

Hi everyone! After many many weeks of patiently waiting, the time finally came for us to pick up our new puppy, Murphy. He is a little ball of bullmastiff fun. He is 9 weeks old and already 15.5 lbs. I am enjoying picking him up now because soon enough I wont be able to! (hahaha)

So, as much as I love our puppy and am happy he is here, I have not been able to spend any time in my craft room this week! I need to stay downstairs with Murphy as much as I can since he is too little to go upstairs..

I hope to get to spend some quality time in the ole craft room this week coming up since my husband is home on some "oppertunity leave" The stuff the army comes up with.. at least its a week of time home for my husband!

I hope to be back soon posting some fun creations. For now, Im keeping my eye on Murphy.

Vacation time is finally here!

Today is the last day I can call my son a Kindergartener. At 10:45 this morning he will officially be a first grader. Time goes by so fast, at least where our kids are concerned! When it comes to waiting for vacation, it seems like it has been forever since my husband and I were planning our Florida vacation via skype. (he was in Iraq)
So today is the day, our son becomes a first grader, and we fly out to Florida. The best part, for me, is that we get to spend time with my BFF, Cassie and our son's BFF's (Cassie's kids) at the beach!
I love my husband so much, and espcially so since he planned this vacation so Cassie and I could hang out for a few days at the beach. We have remained close over the last 1 1/2 year since my family had to move 1500 miles away thanks to the internet, texting, calls, cards and blogging. She is my #1 inspiration for crafting and being a good parent and friend.
I hope to get to post a card maybe two over vacation, and I will definately be back posting often once we get back to our day to day routine.

Connor's Spring Break Craft Project

In the hopes of having a somewhat productive spring break (which is 2 weeks long) I got my 6 year old this cute zoo kit from Target. All the zoo animals are wooden with stiff rope legs and Connor got to cut out felt accents, glue all the pieces together and add his special artistic touch with the coloring. He really enjoyed this project, and I really like how it turned out and I thought it would be fun to share it with all of my blogging crafting friends.

The king cobra, a lion, a monkey and a giraffe are all present and accounted for at Connor's zoo.  Thank you so much for stopping by, I know Connor will really appreciate your comments!

Jason and Connor having fun around the fire

Hello Everyone! I just wanted to give you all an update with what's been going on with me the last couple weeks. ... My husband came home for R&R on Dec 21st after being deployed for a long 7 1/2 months. And since then, we have been enjoying our family time so very much. I cannot even express how very wonderful it has been to have him home over the holidays, heck, to just to have him home! Needless to say, my craft table has been feeling very neglected and lonely, but I am sure there is some understanding there.
Unfortunately, R&R is only a short 15 days, and my husband has to go back to Iraq this Wednesday morning. This being our fourth combat tour, I should be used to sending my husband to Iraq - again - but, honestly, my heart is breaking that he has to leave again. I am trying to focus on the fact that once he gets back, we only have 3-4 months until this deployment is over.
I know after I take my husband back to the airport, I will once again, find comfort in my stamps, designer paper and my new prismacolor pencils (thank you my BFF Cassie!) and I will be back in the swing of things getting back to my favorite challenges like the Clearly Inspired Challenge and designing for The Color Dare.
Until then, Happy Crafting! I will see you all soon!

Happy 4th of July!

My son and I are spending the holiday week with my husband's family in Houston. We have been here for 2 days now and as great as it is to be with family, {sigh} I miss my paper, stamp and inks. I did not bring any along because I have too hard of a time choosing out what to bring and besides, I would most likely forget something that I would need. :0)

The picture above is my son, Connor with two of his Aunt Shelley's Rottweillers, Shyanne (upside down) and Zoe. And below is Connor with the third Rottweiller, Rascal. We have our boxer, Oscar here too. He is having a blast playing with the other dogs, and so is Connor!
Well, I will miss playing in the clear dollar weekend color challenge this weekend! I cant wait to see what everyone comes up with this weekend! Have a great holiday!

Great Suprise! Happy Boy!

As you may know, my husband is serving on his 4th combat tour in Iraq. This deployment is particularly hard because our son is 5 1/2 and very much aware his daddy is away in a dangerous place. We are approximately 6 weeks into this deployment and Connor gets a suprise in the mail today! My husband sent him a super cool GI JOE combat airplane "tiger rat". Connor and the plane have not been more than a few inches apart this whole day. It is extra special because we know how busy my husband is and he took time to shop online at Target.com instead of ....... well, you know.

And Connor could not be prouder of the trophy he earned for playing Tball this summer! Sure, it is a "participation" trophy, but hey, he did a good job and he deserved it along with all his team mates! Just look at the grin on his sweet face. Needless to say, the trophy made it into his bed/tent last night!

On our way to the Tball Game

This is Connor's first year playing team sports, and our first team is the Fort Bliss/Team Bliss White Socks Tball. He really loves the game, looks forward to practice and games. It is alot of fun for me to watch him play and learn more and more about the game of tball. I mean, how cute is he? :0)

Possibly the most annoying toy ever.. but so cute!

So I could not resist the chicken toy while grocery shopping today. I feel bad every time we have to leave Oscar at home now that he is an only pet, so today I decided to bring him home a toy. (I know, I know... spoiled much?) Well, when this chicken toy hits the floor it "cock-a-doodle-doo"s quite loudly, like it would totally wake you up in the morning as if you lived on a farm. This has become an instant favorite of Oscar, like right now, as I type this, Oscar is laying down, his head resting on the plush chicken. I just could not resist posting this picture, he is just so stinkin CUTE! Too bad tough guy spiked collar does not show in the picture, that just adds to the cuteness - Bada@@ dog with his stuffed toy. Sweet .. .. ..

Connor's favorite ride

At the K-9 walk for the animals there was a few attractions for kids, there was a bouncy house, an obstale course, a rock wall, and the bungee trampoline. He loved the jumping! He actually got pretty high up once he got it figured out.

K-9 Walk for the Animals 5-17-2009

Connor and I came across a poster advertising this great event to raise money for the El Paso humane soceity, so we decided to go! It was a day to bring the dogs out for a 1 mile dog walk, and games for the kids as well as the dogs. It was fun! Oscar really enjoyed being out not only with us, but with the other dogs. It was a great way to spend the morning.

Mother's Day 2009

This mother's day was probably the best one ever. Connor is 5 1/2 and for the first time, he really understood what mother's day was. I am not one to look for an expensive gift or alot of pampering on mother's day. But with Jason deploying a few days before mom's day, I asked him if he would take Connor to pick me out a small gift, and he did. Connor was so sweet, he told me to not go in his bottom drawer, and he asked me for a few days "how many more days till mother's day"... The morning of mom's day came and he brought out the gift he chose out for me. It is a really pretty necklace with a blown glass pendant that is red, black and gold. He chose it on his own, and was very excited about it. It is very pretty, and I do like it alot. Then Connor said he wanted to take me to lunch for mother's day. He said either Mc Donalds or Olive Garden. Needless to say, I chose Olive Garden.

It has been a week ... 51 more to go

Here is a picture of Jason at the Maine international airport. Turns out deploying soldiers transistion thru Maine and this great organization called http://www.mainetroopgreeters.com/ meets each plane, shakes hands, hugs and hands out welcome to maine cards to all the soldiers. They also take pictures and post them on their website! There are picts going back to 2006.
I know it has only been a little over a week since Jason left for Iraq, but it was sure great to see his handsome face! I think one of the hardest parts of a deployment is not getting to see his face. Hopefully this time we will get to use the webcams to chat once in awhile.

We loved him so... 11/30/2003 - 4/29/2009

Our sweet beloved Bear Bear passed away April 29th at 6pm. We discovered just a couple days before that he had a tumor/mass at the back of his throat causing him much difficulty breathing. Despite our efforts, prayers, and vet efforts, he passed away at age 5. He was at home with Jason and I by his side. We loved him with all our hearts, and he loved us more. We will miss him terribly. Our house is so much quieter without his presence. He was so big, we always knew when he was around. He protected us and our home and was a brother to our 7 year old boxer and our 5 year old little boy. Bear loved to have his picture taken and he loved his ball ball. He loved to venture out in the desert, and he loved the dry climate of El Paso. I am happy I got to take the pictures (seen below) of Bear on his favorite perch and I am grateful and blessed to have had him in my life for 5 years. His life was way too short, but he had a great life. We loved him SO much, with all our hearts, and he loved us even more.

Our ever fierce guard dog

Just like his dad before him, Bear Bear's favorite perch is atop the stairs. He looks so fierce I would hate to be the stranger who walked in on this big boy.

Across the street

Across the street from our house there is a real piece of desert with all the strange cactus, odd palm trees and jackrabbits you could ask for. We like to take the dogs over there to run free off their leashs and have fun. This is a picture of when Jason and Connor took the boys over there a couple days ago. You may be asking why am I posting this on my neglected blog... I am practicing adding pictures to my postings.. When my blog grows up, it longs to be a blog like my best friend's Cassies.. updated most every day, interesting picts and information. For today, I am still, yes still, getting the hang of things. I do plan on posting daily once my husband leaves in a few weeks, (operative word is "plan") then maybe he can check it out once and awhile too. As if he is interested in the cards I may post! Ha Ha
