A Penny for Benny

Ben's Birthday was last Saturday so I made this for him:

Visitors!

My longtime friend Johanna and her son Calder paid us a visit this past week. Johanna's husband Jeff works in Recreational Therapy and will sometimes be gone for weeks at a time, so she drove down here for an impromptu vacation while he was away. I took Friday off and we ventured down to the San Diego zoo.
Jo, Calder and some mini-warthogs.

Me and a capibara, although this photo does neither of us much justice. They are the world's largest rodent, and Chris saw a lot of them in Brazil. He tells me that they make these barking/snorting sounds so we are understandably obsessed with them.

My favorite rodent of unusual size.

We had a grand time at the zoo and perfect weather. It was great to see Jo, and Calder is such a happy kid--charming and so much fun to be around. I'm so glad they could come visit!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Julia you are growing up before my eyes! When I met you you were as small as a pea but now you have grown to be so big and great (slight exaggeration included). I love you so much and am so happy that I can always be with you to celebrate your birthdays. I hope you have fun today and always know that you are special.

love,

Chris

Orange You Glad

I once went through an orange phase. It must have been genetic, because my mom also went through this phase, the onset of was about age 16 for both of us. My mom had orange shag carpet, orange bangles, and orange teacups. I had orange walls, orange bangles and orange teacups that I stole from her and declared vintage. Over time I accumulated many orange things. I found this picture (circa my freshman year in college) tonight and it reminded me of the orange days...

General Conference

This was yet another good Conference weekend. Unfortunately Julia and I have been sick all weekend. It was amazing to sustain a new President of the church. I don't think the church has ever had a more prepared president in these latter days. President Monson was called as an apostle at age 36! He has been learning with the bretheren for 44 years now. I have always been impressed by President Monson's memory, compassion, and service. The church is in good hands. I wonder how many more presidents this church will have, if any! Well just my two cents.

7 more days until...

I haven't been this excited about something for quite a while.
