Burned

Back on the 19th of November, Kambrie touched the glass on our gas fireplace and burnt her little hand. I felt terrible, she was coloring with Addison and I on the floor and the next thing I knew she was kneeling at the fireplace with her hand on the glass. With in minutes blisters appeared. I've never seen blisters so big. They where causing so much pressure and added pain that the Dr. decided to pop them, something he usually doesn't do. The first blister he popped squirted across the room. As he started to bandage it and explain what I was going to need to do to take care of it over the next few days until I went to the burn unit did I realize how serious burns really are. We went to the burn unit at the U of U the following Monday for a follow up, it was then that I realized this was just the beginning of many trips to the burn unit. I never imagined the healing process would take so long for a second degree burn. It involves lots of therapy and stretching since it is over a joint and they don't want her to lose any movement or flexibility. I was so grateful it was just her hand. I can't imagine going through this process if you are burnt all over your body.

My Baby is One

We took the family to San Francisco Pier 49 Pizza to celebrate her birthday. Don't know what we were thinking. You would think after 5 kids we would know better. She thought she could do what ever she wanted since she was the birthday girl. Here she is on top of the table knife and all. She was a wild little thing, but so much fun. After dinner we took her to Target to pick out her gift. She fell in love with the two Carter plush baby dolls. To say she fell in love was an understatement. She would not let them go without a fit. However, we didn't let her have her way completely as we hid one of the dolls and only bought one. The funny thing was once she got home she didn't want anything to do with the doll and hasn't since except for a hug here and there if we hand it to her. Typical girl, the fun is in seeing if you can get what you want.
Kambrie in her birthday outfit daddy picked out. Here she is on the phone listening to her first birthday call of the day from Grandma Terri. Your singing really made her morning.
You will notice the flower is the same to show the size difference

As I've gotten older it amazes me how quickly a year passes, infact Chris and I were just talking about how each year seems to come and go faster than the last, and so it has been with Kambrie. I can hardly believe it has already been a year, I love that she still seems like a little baby, I am in no rush for her to grow up.

It is funny to think that as a first time mom I couldn't wait to see all the "firsts" and I anxiously awaited to see what the next milestone would be. With Kambrie I've just enjoyed the moment and have really taken the time to enjoy her accomplishments without rushing her to the next expected step. I've realized more and more with each child how precious time is and I don't want to waste it. It seems like I only have 5 short years with my kids before friends and school suddenly steal them from me.

Kambrie has been such a blessing to our family. The kids all love her and get so excited to see her. They love watching the things she does and get so excited to see her learn new things. The boys fight over their seats in the car just so they can see her face. She is a silly little girl and loves to play with her siblings. I love that she is a mommy's girl, but is happy and content if I'm not around. This past week she has learned to come to a stand although she only holds it for a second or two.

Daddy loves how she gets excited to see him when he comes home and how she will reach for him to give him loves now; which she never used to do. Of course, it is usually just a quick one, and then it is right back to Mom! She has developed quite the infectious smile and seems to truly love to smile. Dad loves to put her to bed when Mom is not around as well, as she will be so content in his arms and he loves to rock her to sleep and just hold her. This is the only time she will sit and cuddle with Dad for more than a few seconds. One of the things that Dad will miss the most about all the kids growing up is putting them to bed...and taking his time doing it.

This weekend was the first time that we heard her say, "Mommy" as clear as day. She screamed it from the top of the stairs after Mom had left the bedroom to go downstairs. Addison loves to hug Kambrie as tight as she can and calls her, "babe," along with her other names of "Kambrie Girl" and "Kambrie Cakes." Ayden loves the fact that she looks like him, at least more than any other of our kids. Of course, she really looks more like Saige now, but we don't dare tell Ayden that. Kelton, is always wanting to hold Kambrie, the funny thing is as he always seems like he wants to hold her when she obviously does not want to be held. However, she really loves to play with Kelton; especially in the play room with all the toys. Saige is just a little Mom to her, and really does a great job taking care of her when we need her to. She just needs to figure out that babies do not have to be held constantly.

Luau Party

We celebrated Kambrie's first birthday tonight with my family. I wish I were better at planning and hosting parties. I always feel like I'm running around crazy and can never enjoy the party fully. I couldn't tell if the kids were more excited for Kambrie and her birthday or just another reason to get together with there cousins. Kambrie enjoyed her hawaiian haystacks and drinking water from a big kid cup. I didn't get a good picture with her and her cake before my sisters grand idea of putting her feet in the flip flops. I thought they were just going to hold her up so we could get a picture of her with the flip flops on. Little did I know they were going to destroy her cute little cake before she had a chance to dig into it. As you can tell she wasn't too fond of the idea and mom and dad were a bit disappointed as well.
She wasn't into making a mess of her cake (she didn't need to it was already a mess), infact she preferred a fork and feeding everyone else instead of herself.

Carving Pumpkins

Kelton chose to go and play with Braxton while we carved pumpkins on Halloween; well at least Halloween observance. Addison had fun poking holes and cutting different designs while Ayden and Saige drew on faces and carved them out. Ayden was so proud of his "scary mouth" that he pretty much cut out all by himself. Saige, gutted her pumpkin all by herself, with a little help from Addison, and her face was fun to watch as she pulled out the insides. Saige's pumpkin face was full of all different shapes, and it was fun to see her creativity at work. Ayden was as excited as he could be when we finally put a candle in his and placed it on the porch. He kept going outside to look at it.

Burned

For one of Ayden's Hope Kids events, we were invited to a Halloween party at Elase Academy for Little Heroes. Ayden had fun with Halloween games and movies, while Chris and I were able to get pampered by the students. I got a pedicure, while Chris got a hot stone massage. You can tell by the pictures of Chris' back that this was a student in training, as the hot stones were a little too hot. Chris let the stone burn his back for about 30 seconds before he swallowed his pride and told the girl to take it off! Then she realized that the heated water the stones were in was turned too high. It was a fun time, but likely the last time we will go to Elase to relax.

Dad and Donuts

With the kids being at Odyssey the last year, we didn't have a Dad's and Donuts Day for a while, until Ayden started Kindergarten this year. Ayden was so excited that he counted down everyday for a week. Dad and Ayden read every book in the classroom about apples and bugs. When it was time for donuts, Ayden left to go get a donut for him and dad, but only came back with one. When Dad asked, "is that my donut?", Ayden responded, "no Dad... you have to get your own." When all was said and done, Ayden gave Dad a hug, and even said I love you, which you don't always get from Ayden, but when you do you know he really means it!

Shark tooth

Kelton was starting to grow shark teeth on the bottom row of his mouth. His permanent teeth had grown in and the baby ones refused to go.

After waiting for sometime, it was obvious they weren't going anywhere. We scheduled an appointment and he lost his first two teeth while under laughing gas. The dentist even mentioned his teeth weren't going anywhere, the roots were still very long and fully intact.

Kindergarten Field Trip

Avery, Ashton, Ayden, Brooklin, Cade, and Kody
Ayden and Farmer Grant

Ayden had fun on his first Kindergarten field trip to the pumpkin patch! Before we left for school, Ayden asks, "can moms and dads go on the bus." I tell him they can; when they go on fieldtrips. To my dismay he says, "well... I want to sit with my friends." I tell him how rude he is and he says, "you can sit with the other moms, like Jack's mom." Our little superstar is so honest! To my surprise, when we finally got on the bus, he did sit down next to me.

He had so much fun playing with this friends, goofing off, and picking out his pumpkin. Ayden is so meticulous, he probably picked out 5 pumpkins before he actually made up his mind. He was so bent on making sure he had a clean pumpkin that was not too heavy. The funny thing was that when we got off the bus, I realized that he had a different pumpkin. Come to find out that he ended up switching his on the bus with Kody. Oh well, I guess he finally got what he wanted...., which is usually the case with him.

"You've Got a Friend in Me"

It has always been so rare to have Ayden and Addison play together and have fun. For some reason Ayden has always had problem with Addison, he is either teasing her or just down right rude to her. However, and for whatever reason, the stars have aligned and these two have turned over a new leaf. It still is a combustable relationship, but moments like these are becoming more common. Today they had fun taking turns giving each other rides, but unfortunately more often than not they are playing well together while being naughty. Whether running off or having water fights in the kitchen with water bottles, Addison and Ayden have definitely become a dynamic duo.

Chris was released as the first counselor in the Bishopric today. Being a member of a bishopric is never one of those callings you hope for or are necessarily extremely excited about but what a blessing it has been to our family to allow him to serve these last few years with Bishop Williams and Bro. McKnight. Although I am excited to have a husband back on Sundays I can't thank the Lord enough for the blessings he has poured upon us, he has always been watchful of our family and made sure our needs were being met. What a wonderful experience it has been for our children to see there father serve so diligently and faithfully. Thank you for the wonderful husband and father you have been despite having to sacrifice time away from your family. We are all excited for the opportunity to have you around a bit more and for the opportunities that will come to our family.

Glen Eden Beach, Oregon

Chris and I finally got away on a much needed vacation with only one of our five children. As you can see, Kambrie was excited that she was invited along with her cousin Brecken.

The Oregon coast is beautiful, and if any of you are fans of the movie ''Goonies" you may recognize this scenery from the end of the movie at Cannon Beach. It was a very relaxing trip and one of the highlights was aggot hunting. Can you imagine a group of adults sitting in the sand digging for rocks. Wow... how time flies when your having fun. We enjoyed whale watching at Depot Bay, eating out, hiking, relaxing and having a bon fire on the beach...we even visited the Tanger outlets. What's a vacation without some shopping!

And just for you Mindy, here are some more pictures of Chris and I being lovey dovey!
