Let the Interviewing begin!

Life has been quite crazy since school began. I am teaching like normal and still coaching volleyball. Colt is still going to SUU for school and this month has brought many traveling opportunities for him. During the fall is when most Medical Schools do their interviewing and Colten had/has 5 interviews scheduled.

His first interview was at the University of Utah School of Medicine. He liked it of course! Thanks Mikey and Diana for letting him stay with you guys!

Then a few days later he flew back to Kentucky and interviewed at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. It was a quick trip but he was able to stay with a Med student and his wife at their house which saved a lot of money plus he was able to ask more questions about the school and area. He left with a completely different impression and feeling of the school. He liked it a lot more than he thought he was going to.

The next 2 interviews I got to tag along. We flew back to Minnesota and Iowa so he could interview at the Mayo Medical School (he loved it there!!) and also the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine.

He also has an interview next week at Oregon Health and Sciences University and also one scheduled with Duke University.

Now the hard part is the long wait until we find out where he will get accepted. This could be as early as Oct 15th or as late as the day before school starts next July/August.

Here are some pictures of our recent trip. We first flew into Minneapolis and went to the Mall of America. This place was HUGE. So big it has an amusement park in the middle of it. It is also 4 levels high and after 4 or 5 hours there, we were completely exhausted, we didn't even get to see the whole thing.

This is my favorite. Colten staring through the window to the LEGO store! Wishing he had some of those legos at home.
The Mayo Medical School is located in Rochester, MN which is a beautiful city. It isn't large but for as big as it is it felt a lot smaller. This is a picture of me sitting next to the Mayo Brothers, Will and Charlie.

A view from Silver lake looking back toward downtown Rochester. Most of the big buildings are the Clinic and school.

The Mayo Clinic.

This was when we first got to Rochester and picked up our rental car. The view behind me is what you'll find all over the area... Corn Fields.

Just a picture of one of the streets in Rochester.

Very typical picture of what we saw driving from Minneapolis to Iowa City. Lots of rolling/flat hills. (Isn't that the best oxymoron you've ever heard.) Very green and corn fields everywhere. And I think every home in the country had a silo.

We left Rochester and headed down to Iowa City about 4 hours away. Then we had a day in between interviews so we decided to drive to Carthage and Nauvoo, IL which was only another couple hours south. We spent a day touring Carthage Jail and Historic Nauvoo.

This is just a picture of us getting a little lost trying to find the Carthage Jail.

At the Carthage Jail in Illinois. This is the window Joseph fell out of after he was shot.

While I was waiting for Colten to get done with his interview in Iowa I found this Park. Just a mile from our hotel. When the converts came from England to head west with the saints the Railway could bring them as far as Iowa City, IA and then the tracks ended so this park is where they camped for a couple of months to prepare for the 1300 mile trek west.

One of the best things about Iowa City is the University of Iowa Hawkeyes! This is a picture of the football stadium. One thing I learned from being in the midwest is everyone takes their sports pretty seriously. I think 90% of the people were wearing their favorite teams T-shirt/jacket/hat.

We also drove through a few Amish communties and even saw some real Amish people.

This picture is great because this man is hauling his cow in the back of his wagon. It's like a truck and trailer all in one!

We had so much fun but its always nice to come home. Wish Colten luck with his acceptances. Hopefully we'll hear sooner than later.
