Weekend of Labor: Part 2

We finished tiling our master bathroom!!! I didn't think this day would ever come and really not even close to being finished, but the tile is up. We actually started a few weeks ago and then realized that we wanted to change the fixtures. So, in order to that we had to take down all our hard work and then start over again. We still have to grout and then there is painting, new counter tops, new lights, etc., but for now we are done.

Here is a before picture of the bathroom in all its horribleness.

And here is the after!!!

Stay tuned for pictures of the fully completed bathroom whenever we get around to doing everything haha.

Montana Trip

As usual I am late with the post of our fabulous trip to Montana to visit my mom. Although, I like to live by the motto, "better late than never" so here we go.

Two weekends ago Coby and I traveled to Helena, Montana where there was snow and tons of cold weather to be had. The crazy part was actually flying into Helena. Since they don't have a lot of business (6 flights a day to be exact) coming through their airport, we had to ride a plane that Coby could barely fit on. Before we took off they had to move us to the back of the plane to even out the weight so we could take off haha.

We spent two full days driving all around Montana and even made it down to Yellowstone. Most of the park was closed since is the off season up there, but we did manage to see the Mamouth Hotsprings. Montana was absolutly beautiful and hopefully we will be able to go back in the summer when more things are open and its not quite so cold.Right outside of Helena on our first day.

Weekend Update

Unfortunately we were not able to find time to finish our master bathroom tile project, so stay tuned for that. Friday night we both sat around and did nothing! Saturday morning we woke up and went to Lake Tawakoni for a one night camping trip. Our good friends Marco and Whitney met us out there and we had a great time! While camping we had the pleasure of meeting our extremely gay camping neighbors, who were very entertaining to say the least.

we heart camping!

Sunday morning we woke up early and headed back home. We had a baby shower at 2pm and a wedding at 5pm, two great places to eat tons of cake!

The baby shower was for one of my sorority sisters Debra who is having a little boy in December. While I was at the shower, Coby was at Twin Peaks (the only place he could find, yeah right) watching the football games. We played the melted candy bar in a diaper guess game, which I was really excited about. There was also another game called Baby Fear Factor that I got picked to play. There were three of us who were blind folded and the mom to be fed us baby food and then we had to guess what it was. I must admit that some baby food is pretty tasty (apples, bananas, prunes) while others (peas and Macaroni and cheese) should never be feed to anyone!
Debra the beautiful mama to be!
The Baby Fear Factor players "napper", "drooler" and "pooper".

After a few fun-filled hours of baby talk Coby picked me up and we were off to Frisco. The wedding was for a college friend of mine named Sheena that I lived in the dorm with. The address on the invitation was wrong, so we got to the church as Sheena was waiting outside to walk in (OOPS). So we patiently waited for her to make her grand entrance and then snuk in behind her. The church was really small so we had to stand in the back with all the other people who were late.

While shopping for Sheena's wedding gift I came across the cutest mug ever!! It was zebra with a pink M on it ( those are three things I cant pass up). I defiantly begged Coby to let me buy it to which his response was " You can get it if you drink out of it everyday, otherwise you own me $8". So I am now the proud owner of a pink and zebra mug and yes I have used it everyday since Friday!!

Reno update

This weekend we picked up where we left off in our master bathroom renovation. After getting all the demo done, we moved on to the few add on's that we wanted. In the old shower there was no place to put our shampoo/soap bottles and the little hanging shelves just didnt cut it. Coby came up with the idea to have built in cubbies and boy did that turn out to be a lot more work than we originally thought.

We spent all day saturday measuring, cutting and insalling cement board and drywall. We were on a roll when the tricker treaters started to arrive. So Coby kept on working while I handed out candy to all the kids that stopped by. By 12:00 am we were ready to tile, so Coby went to the garage to get the tile saw that we bought. When we opened the package we realised that someone had used it and then returned it. Everything in the box was dirty, rusty and dull. So neadless to say we didnt get to set our first row of tiles like we had planned.

This morning we woke up bright and early and headed to Home Depot to get some caulk and exchange our tile saw. When we got home we started to layout our tiles and mix the mortar. Our shower walls were not as sturdy as would have liked, so it made setting the tiles a lot harder. Coby (my savior) spent a least an hour trying to level all the tiles out and make sure they were all even. Once we got the first row in the shower, I started to tile the first row around the bathtub.

We want to make sure the the first rows are secure before we work our way up, so for now we are at a stopping point. Hopefully we will get the rest finished in the next few weeks!

The bathroom all stripped down and ready to go.
My favorite part about all of this is that we have cubby holes!

Busy weekend!!

We have been working our butts off all weekend.

So we have known that our shower tile needs to be replaced. A, because it is baby blue, and B, because the grout it cracked and occasionally black mold crumbs will fall out of the cracks. Well I was taking a shower Wednesday and a tile fell off the bottom row. I tried to pop it back into place and while I was tapping it in, 8 more tiles fell off!!!

So all weekend we have been pulling tile off and I even rebuild a little pony wall between the tub and shower, (this is Coby by the way)

Here are a few pictures:

We're BACK!!

Sorry for the long absence, but things have been beyond crazy here in the Morrison house hold. So sit back, relax and enjoy the picture/story run through for the past month and a half!
Last time I posted I was starting out with my first few substitution jobs. Since then I have worked everyday non-stop for the last 6 weeks! I have really come to like most of the students, although some of the other ones I could do without. Like the valedictorian of the sophomore class who decided to steal two sets of completed tests and lie about it. Or the two kids that got in a fight during class, or the kids that call me a bitch under their breath when I ask them to work on their assignment for the day. For every bad kid there are 10 kids that love me. It feels great to walk down the hall and have call out my name and give me hugs. It is also still the highlight of my day when a kid figures out that I am married to Mr. Morrison the math teacher.

Coby and I are also big supporters of the Sam Houston High School football team. We go to every game that we can make, even those in the pouring rain! With so much time spent on those hard bleachers we decided to splurge on something to save our butts. Thanks to our support the Texans won their first district game in the last 7 years!!!

On our way to one the many Sam Houston football games.

The wonderful new seat cushions that we got at Academy. I had to talk Coby into spending $10 for more school spirit vs. the $3 plain red ones he wanted to get.

At the first game when it rained the ENTIRE time! At half time we had to go buy ponchos. My umbrella wasn't cutting it and Coby only brought a towel (smart thinking hubby).

Having a little fun in Coby's room

Since it has rained non-stop this last month, Coby has had to give the dogs MANY baths. This last time Coby decided to trim their nails too (something that hardly ever gets done). Well he got a little too close and made KC bleed. After cleaning up the blood on the carpet he fashioned a nice little bandage for KC out of a sock. KC has the best time trying to get it off while walking at the same time.
Not the greatest picture but you get the point.

Our sweet pups have also been digging A LOT!! So much so that the neighbors dogs are in our backyard at least once a day to play with KC and Bevo. To fix this we decided to lock them in our bathroom while we were gone. After tearing up the door we attached a ceiling tile light cover, thinking they would hurt their foot on the rough surface and stop. Well we were wrong and came home to a horror movie scence blood ever where and the door looked even worse. Our next thought was to put them in crates. We got one small and one medium, for free, from our friends. The first day in them went pretty smooth, but then things went downhill fast from there. The 2nd and 3rd day Bevo decided to show us how strong he was by breaking and bending the airplane approved metal door. He also got so anxious in the crate that we would pant non-stop and saok himself. So after destroying that crate we were loaned a 2x4 ft. cage that seems to working wonders. I think that our little Bevo was just claustrophobic. If you ever need a crate dog tested send it our way and we will put Bevo in it for ya!The spring loaded latch that was welded on the door and to the left middle you can see a gap in the door when Bevo snapped a few other welded pieces.

We traveled to Louisiana one weekend to see Coby's grandfather (who had a stroke about 2 months ago). He is doing good now and we are praying that he will get out of the hospital as soon as possible. We also went one weekend to visit the family in Wichita Falls! Here are some pictures from Ty's soccer games. All those little 4 yr. old boys have one idea what is going on, but it has to feel good to walk off the field and not realise that you lost 20-2 (the 2 were from the other team, THANS!).
This week we preped our house for Halloween!! While we won't be in town that weekend to pass out candy, we still wanted to show our spirirt. Well I did, Coby could have cared less. We carved pumpkins ( a tradition), made ghosts (lineing the walkway) and hung up window decorations. Here is a close up of my AMAZING pumpkin carving skills. It is also the tradition that I carve the hardest design (Coby doesn't), but mine also wilt the fastest.

Hope you enjoyed the fast forward version and I will make sure to keep on top of my bloging duties!

Mr. and Mrs. go to school.

Yesterday was my first day as an official substitute teacher and while I was extremely nervous, things were a little easier for me since I was subbing next door to my hubby! Yup that's right not only did I brave my first class ever, but it was a high school math class YIKES!!! I survived and didn't have to show any of the classes that I'm an idiot when it comes to math.

I loved being able to get ready with Coby and then ride to work together. He was such a great help and always managed to find time to sneak in my class and see how I was doing.
Getting ready to head off to school.

My first class (9th grade Pre-AP Geometry) was taking a practice TAKS test so that was a easy peasy. My second class (11th grade IB Math, which means they are the super smart kids) had a class assembly so again easy. Well, their assimbly was cut short so I had to come up with something for them to do. So I got them to work on a worksheet that the teacher left for them and then we disscussed it as a class. These kids were really fun, they were funny and I even had a kid come up, shake my hand and introduce himself to me at the very beggning. He wasn't being serious so it helpped me relax a little bit more and just laugh.

After that I had a 2 hour break for lunch and a conference period. Normally they would move me to another class during the teacher's conference period, but they didnt need anyone so I was free to do whatever I wanted. So I had a long lunch with Coby in his room and doodled on his smart board while he got ready for his next class. After lunch I had another 9th grade Pre-AP Geometry class so all I had to do was pass out their tests. This class was by far my hardest, right after lunch all you want to do is sleep and that is all these kids wanted to do. So I was constantly telling them to pick their heads up and finish the test. Once I got them all started I poked my head out my door to see if Coby was free to talk. Instead I see a kid coming out of Coby's class, he looked at me smiled and said "He's mean" (referring to Coby). I looked at him, rolled my eyes and said jokingly "Yeah he's real mean". After class I went into Coby's room and saw him getting on to the kid I saw outside so I began to shut the door when I hear, " Yeah and she said you are mean too". What the hell that kid just threw me under the bus when I was joking! I guess I learned my lession, sorry babe!

After everything was said and done I had survived my first substitute experience. I had a few of the other math teachers ask me if I wanted to sub for them soon and I even got a call while writing this blog (from the teacher across the hall from Coby) asking if I wanted to sub her class. I can't wait, I really enjoyed the kids and getting to spend the entire day with Coby!
