From the begining....

This all started Tuesday night when my sister called me @ 11:00p.m. saying mom couldn't breathe real well and I needed to come over...  When I got to the house she was on the edge of the couch trying to catch her breath. I finally went across the street to get Haley to come and check on her (she is a nurse) and she recommended we call the Fire Dept. to get them to check her out. They gave her a breathing treatment and it seemed to help out a lot. I spent the night there and my sister stayed at home with her that day but 2:30p.m. we were headed to the ER. We got there about 3:00 and it was not long until she was back in a room b/c she was a chemo patient they didn't wasn't her around any germs.  They finally admitted her to the hospital and she got in a room at 3:30 a.m. (LONG NIGHT)..  As of Friday they had given her several breathing treatments, she was put on oxygen, IV fluids and IV antibiotics.  On Friday her oxygen levels were up to a 98 when she was lying in bed but as soon as she started moving around or got up to go to the restroom she starts to lose her breath.  Her feet and ankles were still a little swollen and they were not sure if her chemo or what causes it so they are still running several tests to see what is going on.  They gave her some medicine through her IV to take the swelling down and they have gone down a lot from what they were Wednesday.  They did a CT scan on Wednesday night of her lungs but they did it only to really check her heart. They did an ECO and other heart related tests as well and are just trying to figure out why she is so short of breath.  They did a new CT scan Friday on her chest, abdomen and pelvis to check and see if the cancer is anywhere else.  We found out Friday that she has some heart failure on the left side of her heart.  They said that it may or may not have been caused from the chemo she was taking.  They also found that she had pneumonia and that the cancer has spread.  It is in some lymph nodes in her chest and in her liver now. They sent her home Friday night with medication for her heart and for swelling. She had a pretty tough day Saturday.  She was coughing a lot and it was making her sick.  She also got very dizzy after she took a shower and it was all I could do to get her to the couch to lay down. The rest of the day she coughed and slept. Sunday was much better for her and she wasn’t coughing as much which was good. Anyway we went to her Oncologist yesterday afternoon and he said that he would have to change her chemo because of her heart problems and that surgery (liver) was not an option.  He told her he could keep her on 2 of the 3 she was on or change it all together and she wanted to change it all together. She will be getting her treatments once a week for 2 hours. Dr. Lasker said it is a low dose with minimal side effects.  He said if this chemo works she will take it until it is gone or until she tells him to stop. He wants to give her body a rest so she will start her new treatment Aug. 2nd.   PLEASE PRAY that the treatment she will be getting gets rid of everything.  Thank you for your thoughts and prayers!!
