Fun Day

This morning, Cole was insistent on eating breakfast at the coffee table. Guess we're at the age when opinions are starting to matter. Wonder if we'll ever be able to eat breakfast at the kitchen table again?

Later this morning, our neighbors came over and played in this nifty sprinkler thing~ C thought it was pretty cool.

Love the surfer look.. thanks to my GAS (great aunt sally) I now have something neat to wear out in the sun.

It has been absolutely amazing weather here the past few days- which is a great excuse to spend time outside! We've been doing that a whole lot..

New Bed

Here he is in the "toddler" bed! We are shocked that he hasn't gotten out of it (yet!). He even plays in the morning for about 45 minutes (chit-chatting and such) before I go in to get him~ like I said, we're shocked. Naps have also been amazing. I'm counting the days until he discovers he can climb out safely. After researching aimlessly (like most first time moms) we found the best solution was to go ahead and convert his bed to the toddler stage, it's great, looks like a "day bed" and we've kept the pack-n-play in his room just in case we need to put him in there. It was a little difficult finding a bed rail to use with the crib mattress because the "standard" ones are too long, we finally found one that works for his crib.

Here he is, snoozing away. We also started putting him in a sleep sack, which I believe helps keep him in the bed, too, since he can't walk while he's wearing it!

One of my students made him the little pillow that's in the corner of his bed. He loves snuggling up with it.

Ring Dong

A few weeks ago when the phone rang Cole said "Ring Dong" and tonight he said, "I'll get it!"
I thought it was funny.
I"ll update progress on the crib situation, it's been a long and time-consuming day!

VERY unhappy consumer

I'm breathing fire.

About 6 months ago, we lowered Cole's crib to the lowest setting but as he's grown taller, in the back of my mind I've been wondering if it could go any lower. Last week, he was so close to climbing out, I began taking surveys from friends about when to switch to a toddler bed or convert his current bed. Still thinking he should be in the crib for a while... Marc reassured me that the crib was on the lowest "setting" possible.

Tonight, he had a difficult time going to bed. He's cutting 4 teeth on the bottom (I'm sure there's a few on the top, too). After a 3rd attempt of rocking, reading books and snuggling, I put him in the crib and decided we were going to let him cry for about 10 minutes. Until, I heard a loud slam, ran into his room, found him laying on the floor, by the door, screaming hysterically like I've never heard. I let him play for a while, to make sure he was moving appropriately~ ruling out any hurts.

I began to think more about the crib, got online, to find out our particular crib was recalled in Feb. Here's the disclaimer on the site:

Hazard: The cribs fail to meet the federal safety standards for cribs. The four support brackets on the mattress support spring are too long. The brackets prevent the spring from lowering to the full 26 inch minimum height in its lowest position, allowing children inside to crawl over the railing, posing a fall hazard.

Just a note for you to check your furniture! We decided to buy this crib because of the reputation of the company. I'm looking forward to talking to them tomorrow and letting them know I"m not happy that my child is now sleeping in a pack-n-play in his room. I wonder how long it would have taken for me to find out about this! I thought the store would have contacted us because they keep record of who purchased what, right? Guess not.

I am thankful he's OK.

Clean-ting

Have you seen Tyler Perry's~Diaries of a Mad Black Woman? If you haven't, I suggest you do, it's full of laughs. One of my favorite things about the movie is Medea (one of the main characters) cleaning. Medea, refers to cleaning as clean-ting. I thought this picture summed up what clean-ting actually IS. Note: high heal (s), passy, and full enthusiasm!

Pass the Lollipop, please

A week ago, we went to eat Mexican with some of our friends. I warned them when we arrived that Cole had not been cooperative in eating out situations lately. I gave him many choices about where to sit, what he was going to eat, and he was just not going to have any of it! The unfortunate thing: we hadn't even received our water when Cole started screaming "No, NO, NO" and a not-so-nice elderly couple was sitting next to us, giving the evil eye. After a few minutes of being patient, many tries at the table, and opportunities to run outside, I decided to take him to the car for "time out" (I was far from calm). On my way to the car, I heard someone say "Elise, over here" it was like an angel whispering from the sky! A dear friend of mine was on her way to the grocery store and offered to take Cole with her! What amazing timing! So, Marc and I had a nice dinner with our friends, and Cole had a great time at the grocery store. When he came back, he had a bag of lollipops, one of which he proceeded to use as a fork to eat his dinner. This was a battle I didn't pick! He ate all of his rice, beans and quesadillia, and sat quietly in his seat. Guess what's stashed in my car? Yep-the new utensil of choice.

Been a while. . .

I like this picture because he looks like a little devil in disguise, which is how I can describe the past week! Things have been fun and Cole's surely been entertaining us lately.
He's really starting to say a lot of thing and Marc and I can tell he's picking up things we say~ Everything he says ends in "Mommy or Daddy" as if he's asking a question, here's an example: " Getting up in there, Mommy". He loves saying, "up in there" or "over in there"... can you tell he's busy?
