Wednesday

I had some fun today taking these pictures:

Lucy hated me so bad because I put that Santa hat on her. I think it smooshed her ears so she couldn't hear, because she was so freaked out. I thought it was hilarious.

Anyway, I took like 300 pictures. Of course my camera battery died right in the middle. I didn't have high expectations in the first place, like getting a 10-month-old and a dog to pose for a picture was going to happen. But my mom bought Ashlyn this cute little elf outfit so I figured I should try to get a good Christmas picture before the holiday is over. I thought I would post some of the outtakes.

I gave Ash that candy cane just to keep her amused, once she found the long end she really started enjoying it. Would I consider this her first candy cane? I guess so, even though the wrapper was still on.

Lucy was like, I want a candy cane too.

Lucy rebelled against the hat after like 10 seconds.

I must have said something funny.

Gagging herself... of course

Give me a kiss!

She was simultaneously watching Sesame Street.

Lucy finally got the hat off for good and immediately started chewing on it.

Then when I took away the candy cane, all of a sudden my camera started to look reeeaaally interesting.

Can I play with that, Mom?

And that was our Christmas Photo Shoot! ha ha ha

Friday

I'm 10!

Hi, my name is Ashlyn Robertson. I am 10 months old now! I LOOVE bathtime! As soon as Mom takes me into the bathroom I start yelling with excitement! My favorite is to stand by the tub (with mom watching closely!!) and yell as I watch the water fill it up.
(LOOK AT THOSE BUNS!!! I die!!)

I also love to play with Lucy. Lucy does not seem to feel the same way. For some reason she doesn't like it when I pull on her whiskers or try to sit on top of her. But that doesn't stop me!

I currently hate taking naps. I have been in full nap-rebellion for about a week now. I will play and play and play in my crib until I am so tired I sit and yell and cry for a while, until I either fall asleep or it has been so long that Mom comes and gets me. The small enjoyment Mom gets out of this is coming in to see me sleeping in some pretty funny positions. (see above)

Other things I like:

-Holding my own bottle

-My sippy cup (for playing only, not interested actually drinking from it)

-Cheerios

-Most household objects that I'm not allowed to play with (like Lucy's water bowl, the Christmas tree)

-Standing up, I will usually straighten my legs so stiff when someone tries to make me sit.

-Pulling myself up on anything-including things that aren't really sturdy!

-Crawling, I can get from the living room down the hall in about 10 seconds now.

-Books! I never get sick of story time. I will lean over the side of the chair and reach towards another book after we finish one.

-Lucy.

-Mom and Dad. I get a big smile and crawl right towards them whenever they come into the room.

-Watching Sesame Street (while Mom fixes my hair)

Some things I don't like:

-Getting strapped into my carseat. I am good at the stiff-body/stiff-leg thing for this too.

-Having to hold still to get my diaper changed

-Getting my arms pulled through sleeves (some things never change)

-Naps

-Solid food with much texture.... I prefer it smoooth!

-When mom takes away a toy I was playing with (especially if it was something disgusting, like a dog bowl)

-Relief Society.

*********************************

I had to post this picture because every time I look at it I laugh until I am crying. I was trying to get a cute picture of Ashlyn sitting watching Sesame Street because she looks SO cute sitting there, I just want to keep it in my mind forever. But anyway, I was sitting on the floor as you can see, and a certain someone kept butting her way in front of the camera. So finally I took a picture right when she butted her way into the picture again and this is what I got. oh. my. heck. I'm telling you, it may seem like I have 2 kids sometimes with my dog but moments like this make it TOTALLY worth it!!!!

(why don't you want to just take pictures of me????)

Birthday Boy!

Someone turned 33 last week! Yep, it was this little guy! I don't know, it looks like he has gotten a lot cReEpIeR in his old age!!

For Collin's birthday we did . . nothing out of the ordinary. LAME! I am big on birthdays so I felt like it was a disappointment. And it wasn't even MY birthday! But there wasn't much choice; he had a full 4-period day with no prep, then practice, and I had to teach until 8:30pm. And even right after he opened his presents I had to go right back to scheduling group lessons and he had to get things set up for a tournament he had the next day. So, no birthday dinner or anything. We say we've still got something in the works. Probably during Christmas break when we will actually see each other for more than an hour before it's time to go to bed. I did make his favorite breakfast, eggs benedict. And he got some great gifts...including an iPod touch I bought off my brother and sister-in-law, and Collin (ever the technology snob) has been fiddling around with it LOTS so I consider it a success!

Another part of why we didn't do any huge celebrating is that Chandra, Lindy and I had planned a little partay a few days later, because ALL 3 of our hubbies' b-days are within a week of each other! HOW FUNNY. And weird how we've known each other for a few years and never figured this out before?!?! Or maybe I was the only clueless one. Anyway, we had these 3 boys and their families, and also a few other friends over for cake and ice cream and chattin. It was fun.

Helping put candles on the cake!

We are sure glad Collin was born on Dec. 8 way back in 1978! He is such a hard working teacher, coach, dad, husband, church leader, and more. We love him so much!

9.5

Little Miss is 9.5 months now. Actually, don't think about it too hard because you'll realize she is actually going to be 10 months in 8 days. THAT is how bad of a mom I am, just now getting around to her 9 month post. I originally thought I'd try to remember what she was doing at 9 months, but she seriously comes up with new tricks every day, and I don't think I can. So this is an up-to-the-minute update! :)

But first a little Where's Waldo for you:

Does this not kill you? She pulls out this face when we have the camera pointing at her. Has she already learned how to say cheese??? I don't know but it is pretty hilarious. It is the CHEESIEST smile. I laugh so hard I have to wait to take the picture.

It's true. What began as an army crawl just a few weeks ago is now full-fledged crawling. She will still do the army crawl if she really, really wants to get to something fast. (i.e. something forbidden that I haven't put out of reach yet) We have hardwood floors so she will often just army crawl on that, I don't blame her. She is pretty good at wiggling towards wherever she wants to go. Her "real" crawl is so stinking cute. It is still kind of in slow mo. She is very precise in hand-hand-knee-knee. I can hear her coming if I am around a corner. THUMP.... THUMP....THUMP....THUMP... love it!!!!

So, now that Ashlyn is such a pro at getting wherever she wants to go, things have definitely changed. Some of the things we have already had to do are (this list means things she has already gotten into, thus the necessary baby-proofing):

Put baby locks on all the cupboards and drawers in the kitchen.

Put up all games, DVDs, and other crap that was in the low cupboards on the entertainment center.

Put Lucy's food and water dishes out of reach whenever Ashlyn's loose (Yay! a little bowl of water to splash my hands in!)

Put up all my cookbooks.

Find hidden places to plug in things with cords.

Anchor the bookcase in our living room to the wall.

And basically, completely clear her room, the living room, and the kitchen of anything on the floor but baby toys!

For a few days this is where Ashlyn would bee-line to every time I set her down. She really seems to like to go into small places. She wouldn't even have any toys or anything back there, she just really liked to sit back behind the table and chairs and grin to herself.

A new thing just in the past 10 days or so has been that not only can she crawl, but she has figured out how to push herself back up to sitting whatever position she is in. She was really pleased with herself when she figured this out. And I admit it is SO cute to see her do it too. She will crawl over to what she wants, then just sit up and sit there and play. Oh how I love it. BUT, there was a downside to this I didn't anticipate. She realized she could do it in her crib, too. So for like 5 days she had really rough naps and sleeping at night, because she would sit up in her crib and then I guess just get all freaked out that she was sitting up and not laying down, and couldn't figure out how to go to sleep from there. It sounds so hilarious but it was a true problem! So, we had a few times of "crying it out" again. And eventually, she would realize just to lay down. Thankfully she is over that now. AND she is finally sleeping on her side---Hallelujah, this may mean the bald spot might start to grow in!!!!!

The cover of my favorite cookbook. Better that than the page with how to make panache frosting!

This is still one of Ashlyn's favorite faces to make! She thinks it's so fun to do this "little smile." I consider it her fake smile because she does a way different one when she's actually excited or laughing. I think this was just a pose for the camera!

Speaking of smiles, Ashlyn has 8 yes EIGHT teeth now! What the heck!?! Right after Thanksgiving she started teething like crazy. First her top 2 "fangs" came in (right when Breaking Dawn came out! no joke!), then after that she was miserable for like a week while those top 2 big ones came in. And right about at the same time 2 more came in on the bottom. They are now starting to grow out a little and it's SO cute! Although it makes me kind of sad because it makes her seem like a big kid! I miss those 2-teeth smiles a little!

Just this past Sunday I had pulled out a baby book to do a little reading on discipline. Yes, I have felt the need to start planting some sort of "seeds." which I think is a big joke because well, she's 9 months old. But she is pretty sassy already. For example, whenever I do something she doesn't want, like lay her down to change her diaper, put her in her high chair or car seat (basically anything that prohibits her FREEDOM lol), she will do this big, dramatic scream/cry. It's hard to explain. But ridiculous. What I have done is just sit calmly and look at her seriously and say once "no." and after a second or two she will stop and just look at me. Then I give her a kiss because I can't help it, she is so cute! So anyway, that is about our disciplinary interactions, judge as you may.

So, back to the story. I was reading in good old "what to expect the first year" and I got sidetracked reading about when babies start crawling and pulling themselves up. I had seen her pull up on stuff a little, but she hadn't ever done it in her crib or anything yet. But I started reading to Collin because it was so funny, I was literally laughing as I read because it said something like, "you might hear some distressed cries from your baby's room when they have first learned to pull up--because they will stand up and then not know how to get back down, so they will cry for you." I thought that was just so hilarious, picturing it, for some reason. And then we started reminiscing on how Ashlyn would probably do that sometime soon, but she hadn't really shown any effort in trying to do that. Well, like HALF AN HOUR later when she woke up from her nap, Collin went in to get her and called for me, and this is what we found!

And look at that little grin. She was SO PROUD. I just die, she is so adorable. So, now she has a good old time standing up all around her crib. I had to pull up the blinds and move the curtains because she can reach them. (We are actually in the process of replacing this crib, which I think I will feel a lot more at peace about leaving her in there alone in a little sturdier of a crib) But it's funny to see what she does. Once she had thrown all her stuffed animals out of the crib. Once the diaper genie was knocked over. Sometimes just her socks will be laying out on the floor. It is funny what surprises I will find when I go in there. And I'm sure it is just beginning!

We had this sitting by the door waiting to be put away in the garage (because she is way more interested in venturing out on her own than being forced to stay in one place), and yesterday I found her (as in, walked away for 2 seconds and this is when I came back) doing this. I moved it over to the carpet and she had a fabulous time just standing there, for like 25 minutes. I was just 2 feet away when she finally fell. And boy was she sad.

I thought this was super funny..... before I had put up all the cookbooks she found this nestled in among them. It's our old budget binder from before we used a computer spreadsheet. As you can see she is diligently poring over the numbers. So funny.

As for other things, Ashlyn continues to be a very happy girl. She is so easy going, and very content to just play on her own or crawl around and explore. She is definitely trying to assert her opinion these days! She still LOVES bath time, and now she likes to stand outside the tub and watch the water fill it up. She has an excited little "yell" she will do constantly while she's watching that. She also yells a lot whenever Lucy is running around crazy, Ashlyn thinks that is just hilarious. She is selectively ticklish--sometimes I can get her laughing so hard, and sometimes she won't even crack a smile! She seems to have an affinity for classical music..... if I am listening to pop or even Christmas music in the car she will get fussy, but as soon as I turn on some Mozart she will quiet down. I am not kidding. She is making sure I get well-cultured, I guess. She is still slow on learning to love solids, although she has come leaps and bounds i nthe last month. She will at least eat 3 solid meals a day, although she is not too keen on anything with too much texture. Just this past week she has started actually trying to eat cheerios, not just spitting them out. MILESTONE! She also really likes little puffs and is really good at picking them up and eating them! It's so fun to watch. She isn't too big on crackers, she would rather just crinkle them up and then get her jollies watching Lucy gobble them up as she drops pieces on the floor. grr. Yes I sweep the floor at least once a day now. :) We have been spending a lot of time together lately, since Collin is gone pretty much all the time now. It can get a little tiring for me, but Ashlyn is such a sweetie the pros by far outweight the cons. We are so lucky to have her in our family.

Thursday

Breaking Dawn

(WARNING: Lots of musings/ramblings/opinions about Twilight ahead)

So, me and my girlies, being the mature women we are (aha ha ha) decided instead of killing ourselves to go to the midnight showing of Breaking Dawn, we'd just go the actual opening night and make a girls' night out of it. It was so fun! I love these girls and wish we had the time to get together, all 4 of us, more.

FYI: I read Twilight back before it became a craze. It was right when New Moon came out. Most people I knew hadn't even heard about it (I heard about it from my cousin, then my sister). I absolutely loooooved Twilight the book. New Moon, not so much. And then by the time Eclipse came out things were starting to get crazy, especially with all the teenage girls obsessed! (does that say something about me, how much I love teen fiction??). And I hated the book Eclipse anyway. But I still ordered my copy of Breaking Dawn in advance and stayed up all night reading it. There was just stuff you had to find OUT, you know?! And by then it wasn't even fun to talk to other people about it because it was like, this worldwide craze. So I got kindof turned off to the whole Twilight thing. BUT, that hasn't stopped me from re-reading Twilight and Breaking Dawn at least 3 times each. This mainly happened when I used to tag along with the wrestling team to tournaments!!!

SO. I think I went to both New Moon and Eclipse at the dollar theater. But, since this was my 2nd favorite book out of them, I knew it would be one to go see right away! And what did I actually think of it? I don't know. It's kind of graphic. I am not a graphic person. I can not ever get disgusting images out of my head once I have seen them. It's horrible. So I couldn't even watch when Bella was drinking a freaking cup of blood. ew, I want to vomit just thinking about that. And I wanted to plug my ears when she was giving birth to a vampire baby. . . eeeeewwwww.... and she was so disgustingly skinny I went home and googled how they got her to look that way in the movie. But, to be fair it was super accurate and went right along with the book. Besides that their wedding was not outside in the book. But whatever. I did think the acting was BY FAR the best of any of those movies. Thankfully. In the previous ones that acting made me want to barf. So it was sooo nice to actually be believing of what was going on onscreen!

And that is my Breaking Dawn recap. Thanks for tuning in.

As for our girls' night, it was so fun! Besides my guilty feelings for causing us to be running late. If you want the truth it was actually Collin....coming home late.... causing our carpool to be late.... but hey who wants the details? :) We ate at the Creperie! So fun except we were a little rushed. I felt so bad. But I love that place and need to take Collin sometime!

And..... you have to promise not to re-post this picture, ever! ha ha! We may or may not range in age from 27-32. . . . and may or may not have had a couple of teenage girls take this picture! You gotta do what you gotta do. :)

We ended up going to Moxie Java afterwards to continue our good time. It was so great! I figure if nothing else, this whole Twilight thing has been very responsible for a lot of very fun girls nights outs over the years! So props to Stephenie Meyer for that!

Thanks what now?

Thanksgiving... ah yes I am just now getting around to posting about it.

We went to Idaho Falls... and had a great old time. Actually it wasn't one of my better weeks.... the weekend before I again came down with pouchitis. Yes, the 2nd time in 6 weeks. I started antibiotics the day before we left, thankfully, but I swear they didn't kick in for 4 more days. I finally started to actually feel better on Black Friday. Now that I think back, maybe I finally started feeling better then because of all the retail therapy. Just kidding. But seriously, I was glad we were there because there were so many people to help take care of Ashlyn, and since I basically didn't sleep at all due to constant chills and night sweats, had no energy, couldn't eat much (which I ate lots of stuff I shouldn't have anyway) and other fun things, I was glad to have help and not be dealing with her at home all alone. And I think there were enough distractions that I could kind of psych myself into feeling better anyway. Mind over matter, right!

So, the night before Thanksgiving us "married kids" went bowling--at good old Bowlero! There are 4 married couples now so it is getting to be a big group! It was fun! We did 2 rounds (is that what you call it?) and the 2nd time was boys against girls. I don't think I need to mention who won. We spent a lot of the time trying to take good action shots of each other and also trying to scare each other right when we threw the ball. I have like 10 pictures on my camera similar to this:And you'll have to guess whose bum it is.

All the married girls together--woot!

(they need a song as cool as Single Ladies for Married Ladies)

And then what I got when I tried to get the boys in a picture. oh barf. or eye roll.

A couple of months ago I recruited most of my family to participate in a 5K Thanksgiving morning! For the past 4 years or so Collin and I have had the tradition of going running Thanksgiving morning.... and then last year we did a 4 miler in Provo ..... and this year there happened to be a big race going on right there in IF so I signed us up! 11 of us! We had enough to get our own cool color of shirts. Everyone else's were maroon so we looked super hip. That color is called safety-orange in case you were wondering. Anyway, most of us did the 5K run, a couple did a 1-mile walk, and Collin did a 10K. Yes, typical of my husband he ran 2 miles the day before to "train" and then completed the entire 10K without walking. Can I get another eye-roll! I am always impressed...yet also sickened by how incredibly hard I would have to work to be able to do that and how ridiculously easy it is for him! And if you're wondering, I did run 1.5 miles! woot! I made it halfway, which was my goal, once I started running. I hadn't run for over 3 months, due to various reasons. It was LAME because I was the one who got everyone into doing the race and I was excited about it.... but life and a baby and sickness and injuries got in the way. oh well. It was fun to run that far. And by run I mean jogging so slow speed walkers were passing me. In fact, my mom walked the 5K and by the end she had caught up to me!!!!

Thanksgiving was fun. I actually slept most of the afternoon in an Ibuprofen-induced haze, so I dn't remember much. But I did read like 500 Black Friday ads, and I did go out at 5:30am with my brothers and dad the next day. (How backwards is that, I went shopping with all the MEN that early?!) I got lots of great deals and it was really fun. I ended up with my dad most of the time and it was so fun to get to spend time shopping with him. He's a good little shopping buddy! :)

And we did have an attempt at a family picture. It did go ok considering we were using the timer on a camera because it didn't occur to us to do it the day before when there were other people around to take the picture. Well, it went well until Ashlyn realized how close she was to my mom's beauuuutiful hair. ha ha ha. I hope they put this one in their Christmas card.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Monday

I Love to See the Temple....

After 9 months of waiting, Collin, Ashlyn and I were finally able to go to the temple to be sealed together forever as a family on November 12. I had been looking forward to this since Ashlyn had come into our lives. The reason it took so long before we were able to go together was just due to Michigan Law. Our entire adoption was finalized through Michigan state court, so basically once we left that state it has been a series of filing more paperwork, bi-monthly home studies, holding our breath, and more and more waiting. I can't complain because some people (mostly international) have to wait so much longer to finalize, but it still seemed like so long! I feel like I can finally catch my breath because now, no matter what, this sweet spirit will be in our family forever. I am SO thankful for the blessing we have of the temple. I always had been before, but having Ashlyn has brought a whole new appreciation and meaning of the temple to me. Thanks to this wonderful blessing we were able to receive in the temple, it is as if our sweet Ashlyn grew right inside my tummy and joined our family like *most* families have babies join them.

The day started out with like 50 mph winds and sideways blizzard snow. Go figure, we were in Idaho Falls! Anway, that didn't really make a difference to us. It ended up being a crazier day than I had originally anticipated. (of course. if there is one thing that has been most drastically changed in my life since being a mom it is that absolutely nothing will go as I think or plan). Grandma and Charles took our whole fam out to breakfast, which was fun for a while until Ashlyn got super grouchy. Collin and I had to take our food to go and get her home to get a good nap in before we headed to the temple. Thankfully she slept well and got up in time to get her ready. I was nervous to drop her off in the little nursery at the temple, but the ladies in charge were so excited to take care of her. Of course.

I had always thought that when that time came that we would all go into the sealing room together I would be bawling. Mainly because it seemed like such a long wait and I would tear up every time I would think about how excited I was to go to the temple. Well turns out I was ok most of the time. The only time I totally lost it was when they brought Ashlyn into the room, after Collin and I had already been in there and the sealer had already spoken to us. She had the biggest smile on her face and it got even bigger as soon as she saw Collin and me. I love her more than I ever thought possible already, but being in that situation just overwhelmed me.

Anyway, she was the life of the party, like usual. Doing her cute little smile and bobbing her head back and forth, which she thinks is just hilarious. She was making everyone laugh the whole time. It was so wonderful. She got a little crabby at the end as everyone was leaving.... but that was ok. After everything when I got back down to the nursery to get her we had some diaper issues and then I found out that instead of mixing her bottle with formula they had just fed her the straight water.... so no wonder she was hungry! It was pretty funny. She was well taken care of though, and lucky she is such a good natured sweetie, she just rolled with pretty much everything.

This is the ONLY picture I have of the 3 of us of that day (besides the temple pic). I won't bother explaining because it makes me mad, but basically 2 of my sisters dropped the ball on taking pictures at her blessing, I guess I will find someone more responsible next time! I do have alot of ugly pictures of Tara, Andrea, Jodee, and Paul though if you're interested. (insert grumpy face here)

But anyway, after the temple we went straight across the parking lot to my grandma's church for Ash's blessing. Collin's mom, brothers Beau, Morgan, and Jim were there, the first two with their families. A lot of my aunts, uncles, and siblings were there too. It was really fun to have everyone there together. We just did it in the relief society room, we did her blessing first and then had some food. My family and Collin's mom were SO super helpful in getting everything ready, it really saved me from being super stressed about it. It was really nice. If you're wondering, the priesthood brothers didn't hold her in the typical "baby blessing" pose--there is no way that would have been cool with her! So Collin just held her in his arms upright and they all put a hand on her back. I guess in the middle she snatched a little pin Collin had in his lapel out and put it in her mouth-thankfully my dad saw it and pulled it out quick. Thank freakin goodness I wasn't watching close enough to see that!!

Anyway, it was a great, tiring day. We are so blessed to have such great family and friends who came to support us, and we're so thankful for the blessings of the gospel.

Here are a couple other pics from the weekend:

Thursday

Hitched

My little brother Cory got married last weekend to a super sweet girl I am excited to get to know better! Cory and Hayley got hitched in the Rexburg temple on 11.11.11. Fun!

I was worried about how Ashlyn would do through all the craziness since I knew we would basically be gone all day long. She did great! She seriously spoils me. She is so adaptable and easy going, for which I am very grateful! I hope it continues!

Anyway.... I had weird things keep happening with our camera, as in I swear I searched all our bags like 3 times over on the way up to Rexburg and I couldn't find it anywhere.... then mysteriously I found it right when we got back to my parents house.. but then somehow it didn't make it to the reception with us either. It was driving me crazy. But I just stole everyone else's pictures and that is what these are! There are hardly any pictures of the actual bride and groom... my family is super self-centered apparently. Jk. Actually, they were in REAL pictures with a photographer most of the time plus they were very busy! So we stayed out of the way and took pictures of ourselves!

Jodee, Andrea, McKae, and Grandma and Charles got charged with keeping Ashlyn happy in the temple waiting room. Apparently she had a pretty good time with Charles's cane.

aw.

yay! for our cute family. Ashlyn was a huge cheese all day. She really charmed everyone. She knows when to turn it on!

aw. my favorite girls.

A word about the reception: I. loved. it. Seriously probably my favorite reception decorations I've ever seen. I am not a hugely detail-oriented person, especially when it comes to something as much work as a wedding reception, but I always notice them and I really, really loved the whole style of Hayley's wedding. It was so fab! They must have spent a ton of time getting everything together. Or else they are SO good at just pulling something off like that. Again, if I had had my own camera I would have taken some pics of all the great decor, but oh well.My sweet grandma and her husband Charles.... they have come from Colorado for all the kids in my family's weddings. (which adds up to 4 now!)

I got hunted down a lot at the reception by old friends wanting to see my sweet baby! She and Collin were MIA for a while, so I went looking for them and found this! Don't be fooled by Ashlyn's face, she was having a grand time playing the piano with Dad.

She was constantly very, very interested in my corsage.

The uglies. Just kidding!

The only small example of some of the cute decor. The cake was so cute too. Although I was a little disappointed, they fed it to each other nicely! I am always hoping for a little cake fight. :)

.....and this is for your enjoyment. Can you tell it was late and we were tired?

So, to end with a great picture here you go. If you know much about Tara, it is that she is usually the one making a hideous face in a picture. So this is quite a rare gem in the fact that it's Tara actually looking normal while me and Megan look "extra pretty." ha ha. Megan, your face is the best!!

Anyways, it was great to spend a day with our family as well as a family we are linked to now. I am super happy for the new couple and think they are so cute together. Love love!
