Terriffic Two

Harlee & Bode are TWO!!! And we celebrated their birthday on Saturday at the park. It was such a fun party. All of the kids (and grown ups) had a great time.

Here are a some (actually many) pictures from the party:

The precious birthday girl! And...

The adorable birthday boy!

The yummy cupcakes!

Ready to blow out the candles.

Opening presents was wild and crazy, but lots of fun. They got lots of good stuff.
I think this outfit was one of Harlee's favorite gifts. She did not want to put it down and open more gifts.

Bode did the same thing with this plate. He would not let Amber put the plate up so that he could open the next present. It was really pretty funny.

Where did Bode go?

Janet, Grammy and Mary Kate

Bryan and Kade

Danny Wayne, Leah, Papaw and Gage

Jace LOVED the watermelon.

Caden playing on the rhino.

Kelton playing in the sand.Gage giving me the eye. So funny!

Below is a video of Jace playing peek-a-boo with Grammy.

Happy Birthday Bode and Harlee. We love you.

All Smiles

Yesterday was the last day of swimming lessons. I know that Caden will miss it. She had so much fun on her last day. She smiled the entire time. It was a parent watch day and Grammy came to watch too. Caden was so excited for us to see all of her tricks. She has really learned alot. My mom thought that Caden reminded her of me when I was little.

Here are a few pictures:

Caden splashing in the water.

This was taken after she jumped off the side. As soon as she came up she looked over to us to make sure we saw her. It was cool to see her so proud of herself.

Swimming with her teacher. This is about the time that the camera died. Oops, I forgot to check the battery. But later on I tried again and got the shot below.

Caden with her certificate! She was so proud and so am I!

Parent Watch Day!

On Thursday I was able to stay and watch Caden's swimming lesson. I took many pictures and a few videos. She is doing great!
Next Thursday I will be leaving Jace with Brent. More on that later.

Caden before the lesson.

Talking to one of the teachers before the lesson started.

One of the first things they did was practice putting their heads all the way in the water without holding their nose. In this picture Caden is the one under the water.

Here is a video of Caden learning how to use her arms to swim.

Caden decided to go to the kiddie pool for awhile. She showed the other kids in the kiddie pool how she can go under water without holding her nose. She also showed them how she can get a toy from the bottom of the kiddie pool. I think that Caden is in the middle of two stages. She is not afraid of the water or of going under and she knows how to blow bubbles, hold her breath and kick. However, the kids that stayed in the main pool the whole time know how to swim short distances and Caden does not.

When Caden made it back to the main pool she practiced jumping off the side of the pool. She started off holding the teacher's hands. Then she jumped to him without holding his hands.

Finally she jumped all by herself!

She also got to go down the slide for the first time.

Here is a video of Caden going down. BTW, right before I started the video the girl in the water asked what Caden's name was.

Meanwhile, I was chasing Jace around trying to keep him from getting too close to the pool. He did not appreciate it and was pouting most of the time.

Not sure what he is doing here, but I thought it was funny.

One of the parents gave Jace his hat to play with. (And I do know that the shoes Jace is wearing are getting too small for him and his toes do hang off the end a little but I was in a hurry.)

Multi-tasking!

Eating a goldfish he found on the ground. I made him spit it out.
Yesterday Caden asked if we can go to swimming lessons even though no one was going to be there. She said we can do pretend swimming lessons. I am glad that she is loving it. Sometimes I wish we had our own pool. I miss swimming, too.

Swimming Lessons

Caden started swimming lessons on Monday. She has no fear, but her momma does! She started off in the kiddie pool and immediately started showing the instructor how she could hold her nose and go under water. It would not have been that scary if she would have waited for the instructor to look before she went under the water. The other kids were sitting on the side of the pool waiting for instruction, but not Caden.

The parents are not supposed to stay and watch until Thursday so I left and worried about her the whole time I was gone. I did not think that they would let her drown, but I was worried that something would happen and she would be scared to continue the lessons. Silly, I know.
But she made it through the first lesson and had such a great time. The whole way home she was saying that she wanted to swim longer. I am glad that she loves the water.
Today she had her second lesson and she thinks that 2 lessons is enough for her to know how to swim without her floaties. Scary. I do not want her to be too confident. Today when I picked her up she was in the big pool. She was slowing making her way towards the deep end of the pool. The instructor did not let her get that far, but once again I was a little freaked out.

I am wondering whether or not she will be able to really swim on her own with only 8 lessons. She is doing really well and she is definitely not afraid of the water.

I will take many more pictures on Thursday when I get to stay and watch and will post an update on her progress then.

Land Owners

Tuesday was closing day on our land! We now own approximately 4 acres of land south of Lubbock! We are very excited.
The plan for now is to start working towards getting a shop out there so that we can get those stinky worms out of the garage. (The day that happens will be sooooo wonderful!!!!) There is just so much to it - drilling a well, getting a septic system, building the shop. It will be a slow process, but we have completed the first step! We plan to one day build a house out there as well. However, that will be years from now.
This weekend Brent will get to use his new toy - the riding lawn mower. The weeds were looking pretty tall on Tuesday!

Why do I care?

When I received the invitation to Kristen's baby shower (see post below for pictures) one of the first things I thought about - besides 'yay!', I get to see how Kristen's pregnant belly is growing - was who will be there and what will they think when they see me. Thoughts that followed included I really need to lose some weight before the shower and I definitely need a tan on these white legs. I had already been trying to loose weight but I can come up with some pretty good excuses for not sticking to a diet. We have been celebrating birthdays and going to a ton of wedding/baby showers where I just had to have something sweet because it was a special occassion. Also, if I have a bad day, I deserve a coke! As for tanning, who has time for that? The only time I am out in the sun these days is on the jobsite. Definitely not wearing shorts out there.

For some reason during this past week, I did not stress about going to the shower. I did realize that I was going to the shower to see Kristen and celebrate her pregnancy. I do care what she thinks; however, I believe she would still be a great friend to me no matter what I look like. Still, there is a part of me that does care. Why? All the girls from the shower have probably not even given me a second thought - good or bad!

Caden looked precious that day and many said so which makes me happy and so proud. I need to just focus on the good stuff. I am happily married to an awesome man and have 2 beautiful children. That is what I want people to see instead of seeing me.

Our high school reunion is coming up (this September). When I found out about it, once again my thoughts went straight to loosing weight, what will others think of how I am looking now and what I am doing now. I know all of this is normal stuff, but I really wish that I did not care. I have been praying about this and believe that God is the reason I did not stress about the shower last week.

Also, somewhere inside me I know that I need to loose the weight for me - not for people I have not seen in 10 years and probably won't see again for at least that many more. But it is hard to loose weight when you have a husband that tells you how good you look even when you don't. I am so lucky!

Baby Brady

This weekend we traveled back to San Angelo for a baby shower for my childhood best friend, Kristen! She is having a little boy and they will name him Brady. It was so good to see Kristen and her mom. I can't wait for the end of July to roll around so that I can meet Baby Brady!

Here are some photos from the shower:

Tonight

There have been many times that I have thought about doing a blog on all of the funny things that Caden says now or has said in the past. She comes up with some pretty funny stuff and I know I will not be able to remember it all. For example, when Caden was younger she would call peanut butter and jelly sandwiches peanut butter and samiches. She used to be sree years old, then she was free years old and now she is four. Also, after every meal she asks for zert, known by others as dessert.

When I got home from work today I asked Caden if she wanted to go shopping with me. She said sure she will be ready after SpongeBob is over. While she finished her show, I started to get Jace ready to go. A few minutes later Caden asked me which shoes she should wear. I told her she could wear any of her pink shoes. Well, I should have been more specific. The first shoes she picked out were light pink plaid shoes that match her Easter dress. So proud of her selection, she tells me these are perfect, right? She was wearing shorts that were a different plaid so those were not going to work. The next pair of shoes were pink dress up shoes that she got for her birthday. This time she walked in the room with a big smile on her face. It was a game now. Finally, Brent went and helped her pick out a pair of shoes that I was happy with.

I put a clippy in Caden's hair and wet down Jace's hair to make the naptime 'do disappear and we headed out to the truck. Caden ran out the door and yelled "I call shotgun!" Where does she get this stuff?

Once we pull out of the driveway I ask Caden where she thinks we should go shopping. She said we should go to Jason Penny's. I said do you mean JCPenny's? She said oh yeah JCPenny's. The whole time we were at Penny's Caden was talking about how she wanted to ride the escalator NOT the elevator. I should have counted how many times she said that. Well over 10 I am sure. And of course the second we get into the store Caden needs to go potty. If she only knew how nasty public bathrooms really are I am sure it would not be so exciting for her. At least no one else was in the bathroom this time to hear her say "I know, I can't touch ANYTHING."

We get back in the car after finding some baby shower gifts and Caden starts to tell me a story. It went something like this:

On the Barnyard show there was this snake and he was holding the mouse and then the snake put the mouse in his mouth and swallowed him and then went blah! And then the snake said sorry, sorry that was inappro .... um .... inapprogram! Hahahahahaha!

I asked do you mean inappropriate? She said yeah, yeah! Hahahahaha!

(In the cartoon the mouse stood up for the snake, which no one had ever done, so the snake decided he could not eat the mouse - but he had a moment of weakness.)

We made our way to Caden's favorite chicken place (it is my favorite as well) Chicken-fer-Lay to pick up dinner and headed back home.

Later while Caden and Jace were taking a bath Caden realized something. She cannot be going to a baby shower this weekend because babies do not take showers, they take baths.
I always soapy soap Jace first and get him out pretty quicky since the doctor thinks he should not stay in the tub too long with his dry skin issues. Lately he will go back in the bathroom and sit down in front of the tub where/how I usually sit. It is so cute to see him copying the things we do.

Another picture of Jace in Caden's shoes. These are the pink ones that she ended up wearing earlier this evening.

After grabbing a few things from Jace's room to pack for our trip to SA, I put Jace down for the night. It was time to start packing for the weekend. But first I had to try on the dress I am going to wear tomorrow for the 3rd time since I bought the dress for this event. I had to figure out which shoes to wear. So I put on two different shoes and asked Brent what he thought. He asked what look are you going for? Eight year old girl? Or stylish pilgrim? I gave him a confused look and he said go with the stylish pilgrim. I said ok and went to get another shoe. This time he was chosing between stylish pilgrim and spartan? Where does he come up with this stuff? I think I have already said that about Caden in this very post! Anyways, we are still going with the stylish pilgrim.

Then I realized that I could not find my yellow cami to go under the dress. Although I am excited that having two kids has given me a little extra up top, I really am not comfortable with showing off my extras. So I searched the dirty clothes in my closet, then the laundry room, back to my closet where I went hanger by hanger looking for my yellow cami. I then checked everywhere in my room (under the bed, in the corners, under the desk) thinking maybe one of the kids got ahold of it. No luck. I think I looked for maybe 30 minutes while Caden asked when we were going to pack her stuff for San Angelo. Finally, totally out of nowhere the yellow cami appears in the middle of the floor in my room. I promise it was not there before. Am I going crazy?

So I am finally able to move on to packing for Caden. Now I cannot find one of her flip flops. We are once again searching the house. Brent laughs and says why don't you try the middle of the floor in our room. Ha! Ha! Real funny baby, but I go to look anyways. While I am in there Caden yells I found it. I hurry out to the living room and hear Brent laughing again. Caden says he made me do it. Once again, real funny baby! The flip flop is still missing, but Caden is up way past her bed time.

What an evening. I am off to finish packing!

Sorry about the rambling.

Desserts First

On Monday evening, a few co-workers and I went to a little winery called La Diosa for Desserts First 2008. It is an event for the Girl Scouts where chefs compete for the best dessert made with Girl Scout cookies. Lee Lewis Construction was a Thin Mint sponsor.

The evening started off slow but yummy! I actually tried most of the desserts (for those of you that know me, you know that is not normal). There were a few with cheesecake in the name and I did not try those since cheesecake is not my thing. Surprisingly, there were not many with nuts in them. I guess that is why is tried most of them. My favorite was a chocolate pudding with thin mints on top. I should have gone back for more of that one!

After trying the desserts, Kathy and Mendy had to leave which just left Tish and I so we decided that we would leave as well. On the way out we found Allison and Liz arriving so we decided to stay and I am glad that we did. We had a great time!
