Legend of the Dogwood Tree

I heard this poem in a sermon a couple of years ago. There is no historical evidence that a dogwood tree was used in the crucifixion, but it is a nice poem.
We have included pictures we took of the dogwood outside Lauren's grandparents' house in New York.

In Jesus' time, the dogwood grew
To a stately size and a lovely hue.
'Twas strong & firm it's branches interwoven
For the cross of Christ its timbers were chosen.
Seeing the distress at this use of their wood
Christ made a promise which still holds good:
"Never again shall the dogwood grow
Large enough to be used so
Slender & twisted, it shall be
With blossoms like the cross for all to see.
As blood stains the petals marked in brown
The blossom's center wears a thorny crown.
All who see it will remember me
Crucified on a cross from the dogwood tree.
Cherished and protected this tree shall be
A reminder to all of my agony."

Our Time Will Come

Last year at this time, we were just starting out in our IVF journey -- blood work, ultrasounds, doctor visits, injections. Over a month of preparation and protocols all came down to one final blood test. Then, it was over. Just as we were picking ourselves up to do it all over again, we got sidetracked with a much more important battle.
This year has brought renewed focus to our determination to expand our family, including the addition of acupuncture treatments to give me any edge possible. This will be our year. It has to be. We know God has a plan for us, and a family to fill our arms. Sometimes it just doesn't come as quickly as we'd like it to, and the frustration gets overwhelming. We've been given yet another lesson in trust and patience, at the very least.
In the past couple weeks we've seen dear friends welcome new additions, and another is due any day. As we share in the joy and excitment for our friends, we can't help but wonder when our time will come.
Several months ago, Mike's buddy gave him a DVD of a movie called, "Facing the Giants." It's about a couple who must learn to trust in God's plan for their lives, even when everything around them seems to be upside down. One of the major challenges facing the couple is infertility. Brooke, the wife, sums up her longing for children best when she says, "How can I miss someone so much that I've never met?"
In my fumblings through different fertility websites and message boards, I stumbled upon a song and video by a singer named Kellie Coffey. It's one of the most poignant songs I've ever heard, and I felt compelled to share it. I don't usually post entries as personal as this one, but it truly touched my heart, and it eloquently sums up the feelings of one in 10 couples.
Turn up your speakers, and, if you're anything like me, grab some Kleenex.

From the Mind of Mike

White Mountain range, North Conway, N.H.

There are times when the mountains call out to my soul.
I must answer.
I go to the mountains to be seduced by their majesty and wonder.
They are wild; an untamed beauty.
They offer both adventure and peace.
Even more, they offer rest and security
like a mother's arms do for her child.

The Lights Went Out

Follow this link to see what happened in my parents' neighborhood this past Thursday. My parents' house is behind the field reporter when they go live to her. You can even see the dented van.
My nephew, Anthony, has his first five-second sound bite of fame, proudly saying, "The Wii blew up."
The report also ends in front of my parents' house as well. It's the most exciting thing to happen to that road since I moved back in 2001.

Be sure to hit "watch video" when you come to that web page.
