Ho Ho Ho Merry Christmas

Tyli was able to be an Angel in yearly Ruth Family production. She wanted to stay up so bad she would not go to bed. She finally gave in and literally fell asleep standing up.
Merry Christmas!

We got up about 5:30 this morning, not too bad. Idaho has been pretty fun. We have had not had nearly as much snow as last year but we have had enough to play in. Tyli has really enjoyed it this year.
The kids have spent most of the time playing with the cousins but they also have done some fun activities. I obviously did not get enough sleep last night if you are reading this. I hope you enjoyed the pictures because I am done typing.

The Ugliest Christmas Tree award goes to.....

We really do love the Christmas season and all that goes with it. However, since I have been working installing Christmas lights it is not quite as fun to hang my own. Our home looks fine but I don't go around announcing to the world that I work part time hanging lights. I promise the homes I work on look better then mine. The second thing I wanted to mention was our tree. Jami and I had only been married a little over 5 months and we bought this tree on sale at Walmart. That was 9 years ago and the tree was cheap then. It has not aged well. Each year we decided it is time for a new one, but it always gets bumped down on the list of what we really need to buy. The tree almost didn't make the move with us but we dragged it over with us to our new house. With a new baby coming and my car deciding to need some major repairs we once again resorted to the good old tree. It doesn't look half bad when the room lights are off and you can only see the warm glow of the Christmas lights. Unfortunatley our cheesy blinking plastic star that goes on top of the tree broke last Christmas. Sometimes I wonder if it was really an accident. Jami, I believe, has disowned the tree and doesn't really want to touch it or have anything to do with it. The kids helped me decorate it. If you look closely at the picture below you will notice an interesting pattern in the decorations.

Every ornament that is within the reach of Tyli has been placed with in a 2 foot square area. She takes them off and has put them all back in the same spot. She has learned to be careful with them, but we really do need those ornament spread out to help block the tree behind it.

We do love our tree and thankfully our kids are little enough that they still think the tree is awesome. We'll see how long we can still get them to believe that. I don't know that our family will cry however when this tree comes down for the last time.

Fall Break

With a week full of football it was nice to have a day to just spend with the family. We got up and decided to hike in the San Tan Mountains. It is close and fun. We did this during spring break before but this time we went much further. The boys almost hiked to the very top but it got too steep and I climbed the last 100 ft or so to take a picture for them. They were very excited to find not one but two caves/mines at the top of the mountain. Tyli had a good time and we managed to make it out with out any bloody knees or elbows. The only injury we had when climbing/sliding down the mountain I managed to find a small cactus. When I asked the boys to look and see if there were any spines still in my shorts they just laughed and asked why I sat on a cactus in the first place. Good question.
The bat caveTyli has quite the hair

Quick picture after coming down off the peak of the mountain. I have to say my legs were burning a little bit at this point.

We took it easy the rest of the day played legos, and tossed the balls around in the backyard.
It was a great day.

Don't get Dallin Mad

I saw this tutorial online and I thought I would give it a try. I think I can do better but not too bad for a first attempt. I feel like I need a vacation. Things have just been super busy. Freshmen Football is already half over. I think the kids have finally figured out that they have to play hard if they want to be sucessful.
I think we just need a normal week to catch up and we'll be fine if such a thing exist.

Thank you Audra

Thanks to Audra Campbell's moving in to a prior model home we were able to buy many decorations for our home at a very reasonable price. We have now turned our once scarred broken marked up flat painted white walls into a room that we are proud of. Considering neither Jami or I have taken any professional design classes I think we did ok! Thank you for parting with the mirror Audra. As you can see Jami and I managed to hang it without killing ourselves or anyone else :)

Mmmmm Lemon cake

This year for my birthday we decided to have lemon cake instead of the chocolate which is the norm. I have always enjoyed a good lemon cake and when I told Jami she thought I was kidding. My birthday was on a Sunday this year so it was pretty mellow. We BBQ'ed steaks and then pigged out on the cake. What more could you want!

Painting Fun

This summer has been very busy. I have done weights with the freshmen in the mornings then work on the house and then returned to the school to lift with the varsity and JV players. So on one of the Fridays when we aren't lifting Jami and I tackled the front room. We had to borrow a tall ladder from the McNamaras so we could paint high enough.
It was hot and I don't think the air conditioning was meant to cool this specific part of the house as well as other parts. We saved tons of time trimming by buying the sureline trimmer tool. I was a little sceptical that it would work but it saved us hours of taping in difficult places. We started at eleven in the morning and didn't climb into bed until 2 in the morning. We were a little pooped but we were done. We only have our room, Tyli's room, the bathrooms, and two walls upstairs to do until we are done.

Our TV needed a part replaced so we had to do without for about a week and a half. In many ways it was a nice change. So one day we decided to make rock videos. Here are some samples.

By the way they all picked out the songs they wanted from a CD that Uncle Scott had originally made for the Foster boys. Our boys liked it so much they had to have a copy.

McKado gets a little crazy and tries to run away from the camera. You may notice that he had a few tone/timing issues in this song.

This was a lot of fun. They wanted to do more but the "bug" guy came to spray our house. It was funny as Tyli was following him around saying the bad guy is still here, the bad guy is in my room, ect... Like I said, lots of fun.

The Boys room

When we moved into our new house the only room that really needed a lot of work was the boys room. It must have been a trophy room or something, but it looked like someone got a nail gun and just went crazy. So it was the first room we decided to fix up. Here are some before pictures.
Here is the a picture showing all the nails and screws removed from the walls. This does not include the holes without a nail or screw in it.
Jami and I stayed up late one night and primed the whole room. The kids all slept on cushions in Tyli's room. That was an adventure in of itself.
The boys helped us pick out the colors. It is a little bright but it lookes pretty cool. We plan on putting up some white shelves and doing something with the ceiling.

For some reason all the white in the room ended up looking pink??? It is white. I don't think the boys would go for pink. It was a good warm up for painting our front room which has some very high walls. We might mellow the color out for the rest of the house. :)

More playing with photoshop

Every year Coach gives me some sort of task I need to do with photoshop. Each year the athletes get together and decide what 11 characteristics they need to have to be the most successful team they can be. They call it their 11. Each time they break it out they will clap 11 times to remind them what they need to be doing. This year I got the list from Coach and put them together like this. He wanted to make it into a poster so I may have gotten a little too creative. It is hard to tell when to stop. Oh well you can see for yourself.
Is it possible to have too much lightning?

After months and months of waiting to close on our home it of course happened in the middle of the state track meet. I sort of knew it would happen that way. It would have been too easy to move the previous weeks. We qualified a bunch of kids to state. The boys had people in every event except Discus, Long Jump, and Pole Vault. We had finished second to Queen Creek the week before in the regional meet. It is very hard to compete with them when have so much depth. We made camp in the same spot we have been for the last three years.

Wed. we had a good day. Almost everyone qualified for finals. We didn't do quite as well as we would have liked in a few events but what can you do. Thursday after the first day the meet is when we received the keys to our house. So after practice the next two days we were going crazy trying to fix everything up in order to move into the new house. We had some help from Steph and my mom. My dad took the kids to Fathers and sons so they were out of our hair for a while making things easier. They came back with all kinds of crazy stories. Jami was very impressed at my handyman skills as I was able to fix almost everything they thought we would have to pay someone to fix. I don't know how to drywall so we will leave that to someone else. On Saturday morning we had our new fridge and washing machine delivered. As soon as the people from Lowes left I had to hurry home shower and head off to the track meet. Our kids did great. No athlete came in lower then what they were seeded. Most moved up and scored more points. My pole vaulter PR'ed and won state with a jump of 11' 04". She would have cleared 11'08" on her 11'04" attempt. We had two relays 4 x 800 and 4x100 that both came in second by a little. The our 400 runner came in third as two other ran much faster as they had in the prelims. I was a little down as all the kids who had chances to win state kept getting second. Our last chance to will a state championship was the 4x400. Two members of the relay ran the best races of their lives and we won by 30 feet. The goal I had for the boys was to finish in the top 5. As they announced the results they read off Queen Creek as third which means we beat their track team for the first time ever. We finished runners up just a few points behind Notre Dame. This was our best finish in state ever. It was awesome to see how excited kids where down on the track. One kid the week before was so angry to lose to Queen Creek in the very end in everything. He is a senior and was just fed up. He finished his high school career as a state champion in the 4 x 400 and beat Queen Creek in the only meet that really matters. It was a great year and we have great kids on our track team.

Since it is the weekend and I didn't go back to my room I got to take the trophy home. I felt like it was the Stanley cup or something and the kids just wanted to touch it.

It is fun to see them so excited. I remember always looking at the trophy cases at all the schools I went to and thinking how cool it must be to earn awards like this. It was great to see my kids so excited. Now instead of relaxing finals are on Monday/Tues., Graduation is Wednesday and our track banquet is on Thursday. Saturday I leave for Georgia to help Jenn and Ryan move back so I need to find some time to move my family. Fun , Fun, Fun! I wouldn't know what to do if I wasn't busy. Go Knights!

Fun with Facial Hair

Well after months of fun and addendum's, we actually signed the closing papers on our house today. It has been so long that even all my students are asking when I will close on the house. If all goes well then we may have the keys by tomorrow. If thing go as normal then we should have them early next week. In many ways growing the beard was a great thing. People stopped asking me when I was going to get my house. In fact people were now saying oh, I see you haven't closed yet. As promised however, when we signed the papers I promised I would shave. It is sumwhat unfortunate as the hair on my face was starting to get long enough that it didn't look like I had a facial fro anymore, and it had stopped itching. Since I don't have beards very often I decided to have a little fun taking it off. All of these pictures where taken within 5 minutes of each other.
The first picture is right before I started shaving. This is the out of control beard.
The second picture is my more academic/professor looking beard.
This picture is my dirt bag I am going to rob you beard
Finally this is the bare face and bare head picture. I kept a little soul patch for my throwers. They told me not to shave as I would lose my powers. They also asked me if I got discounts at restaurants because of my beard. They are funny. So I will keep this little bit a little longer so I don't completely lose all my powers until they are done throwing. Now we have to get ready to move. Yeah!!!

Not by the hair of my chinny chin chin!

April 7th I told Jami that I will not shave again until we have closed on our house. As you can see we still have not closed on our house. We were supposed to have closed on the 10th. Life must not be crazy enough yet as we probably won't close until next week.(HOPEFULLY) I hope we close next week as 100 degree temperatures are not really fun with a beard. Jami isn't the biggest fan but McKade thinks my face is soft and likes to sit by me and rub my face.

Bad Boy Jeff

I was going through some old pictures and I came across this one of Jeff. I had all but forgotten about his old tattoo's. For those of you who know Jeff well you remember, just as I, how "crazy" he could be. When he went out on the town you never could guess what trouble he would be getting into. We were all so glad when he grew out of his arson phase. We will always remember fluffy. She was a great cat. This may explain why my parents don't own a grill and really aren't that fond of BBQ.
Getting into sports finally helped him to come around and find a different outlet for all his violent energy. I feel sorry for anyone who tried to tackle him on the field.
Well when he finally came around, he decided to get those tattoos removed. I really am impressed at the job they did. You would never even know that he had any tattoos. As a bonus they removed his third nipple and moved his belly button from his hip back on his belly were it belongs. They did a great Job.
Love you Jeff

Big Sandwich

If you wonder where I have been, well, I have been eating this sandwich. It was so big I just couldn't get to the computer.

Dog Eat Dog

I always thougth their was something a little off with our family.
Chimmi is getting big. He sits when we say about half of the time and has a fun time fetching. I am having a hard time convincing the kids that he doesn't scratch them on purpose.

One Crazy Saturday

Well today started up with Jami getting up very early to go to POW WOW. She is become quite the Cub Scout Master. I think she looks very cute in her uniform. Anyways it was me and the kids together for the day. We started out the day with a delicious bowl of oatmeal as we ran out of the milk the previous night. Once I told the boys it would make them so much faster if they ate it, they decided to have a race to see who could eat it the fastest. We then got to watch one of the cheesiest chick flick soccer movies I have ever seen. The family had checked out some free movies from the library. As we were watching the movie the teacher whose dog had puppies, called and told us we could now go and pick our puppy. It is 8 weeks old and is very cute. We had gone to see the puppies a few weeks ago and had and idea of which one we wanted. So before Dallin's soccer game we headed to Walmart and Petco to get some basic stuff. I left Petco amazed at how expensive they had everything priced. A water dispenser thing at Petco cost $30 while the same exact brand at Walmart was only $15.
Dallin had one of his best soccer games ever. He scored 3 goals and played some great defense. It is fun to see him running so hard that he had to put his hands on his head to rest for a minute. I think he is starting to pick up the game. You can see some of the competitiveness that is present when he plays the Wii coming out on the soccer field.

If you are wondering why he is wearing a milk jug helmet on his head, I am cheap but very creative. He wanted a helmet so I looked around to see what we had. McKade and Dallin were using them to be robots. Dallin adapted his into a racing helmet. You can see the intensity in his face.

After the game we went and picked up the dog. His name is ?????? Jami likes the name Zeek, Dallin likes the name Chim Chim, but we would call him Chimmy, McKade likes the name Jazz, and Tyli likes Princess. It seems like we are leaning toward Chimmy even though Jami doesn't like it. It will be hard to convince Dallin of anything else. The puppy had a good car ride home and the kids were loving him to death. We took him for a short walk and you can see it wiped him out. The kids would play with him until he got tired and fell asleep then they would come in until he woke up again. The dog is a mix between a Chocolate Lab and a German Short haired Pointer. We'll see how well he sleeps tonight. I made him a bed from an old pillow and some towels and he walked right up to it, laid down, and went to sleep. I told the kids the dog would miss his family very much so they had to love him lots and lots so he knew he had a new family that would love him. From this picture it looks like he still misses his brothers and sisters. To end off I wanted to share some fun stories we forgot to mention about Tyli. When we got back from Christmas vacation Tyli kept putting her blanket on her head and walking around the house. It took us a while to figure out that she was saying baby Jesus. She had seen the Christmas eve program the Ruth Family puts on and she walked around like this for at least a week. She does a good job of playing the part of Mary. You may notice she is playing with Jami's old cabbage patch doll not with any of her new dolls. Tyli has also started to come out of her room after we put her to bed. This is how we found her in her room. The light was on and she was laying in the middle of her floor. on her pillow. She has been keeping us on our toes. This morning after oatmeal I also started making smoothies. I left the room to hear McKade yelling at Tyli to "stop that." I hurried back in to see Tyli with our scissors. She had taken them out of a drawer and was trying to cut open the bag of strawberries. Who knows what she will do next? Thank goodness Sundays are a day of rest, right?
