What We Do For Date Night (or Day)

Greg and I decided to go to the Tax Day Tea Party downtown because I have wrote my representatives about issues I feel are very important and they haven't been responsive. We felt it is time to stand up for what we believe and so we decided this was the venue to do it. I guess we could consider it a date since it was just Greg and I.

It was really fun, not what I expected for a political rally! There were so many different types of people there. People had their kids with them. Business people wearing suits were in the crowd and I even saw the sweetest old woman, waving a small U.S. Flag. People were so kind and polite and I didn't even hear or see any vulgarity or violent outbursts. It was like hanging out with friends. Really a fantastic experience!Greg was interviewed on camera by Fox31 news. His interview didn't make the editing cuts, but there was footage of him watching the event. I DVRd it so the kids could see their dad on tv. They thought it was really cool!

Here are some pictures of our day out. We bought one of those flags with the snake that says "Don't Tread On Me". That is what Greg is wearing around his shoulders. Looks kind of like a super hero!

You got to love the poster on the bottom right of the last picture. "God only asks for 10%".

Easter

Easter week was rather crazy this year. Alec's birthday was in the middle of the week with a party on Saturday, and Madison had a class presentation and a spring class party I helped with. But we survived! We decorated eggs on Monday for our FHE activity, while the kids discussed what they knew about why we celebrate Easter on Sunday.
Easter was nice, except for the wet, cold weather. As we left for church, we discovered a bunch of plastic eggs all over our lawn that some easter bunny decided to drop there. It was a nice surprise! I have a few ideas about who it could have been, but I probably won't ever know for sure. I guess that is the fun behind those secretive acts. After we came home, the kids collected these surprises and added it to their collection of chocolately goodness. Dinner at my parents' house fininshed off a beautiful day!

We hope all of our family and friends had a wonderful Easter!

Happy Birthday Big Al!

Today we celebrate the day our wonderful son entered our lives and our hearts. It is such an honor to be the mother of such terrific young boy. He is such a special person and has so many gifts and talents that I can't wait for the world to discover! So this blog is dedicated to you, little man, as you inch closer to becoming a teenager (heaven help us in a few years!).

After our son Eric died and we lost our daughter when I was 8 months pregnant, we didn't know if we would ever have the chance to raise a child. So when I became pregnant with Alec, it was such a joyous time for us, especially when ultrasounds showed he looked healthy. However, my health was affected by this pregnancy and we ended up having to have an induction 3 weeks early. Alec came into this world at 3:24 am, after 6 hours of excruciating labor, but it was worth it. The doctor almost missed the birth because he didn't think I would have him so fast. He had enough time to put on one glove and part of his scrubs before diving to catch Alec as he flew out and almost fell on the floor. He was anxious to come into this world! Because I was induced early and based on the fact that I birth small babies, he was a little one, only 4 pounds, 15 ozs. Hence the nickname his dad gave him at birth, Big Al. He had to remain in the NICU for almost a week because of breathing issues, and then he was on oxygen at home for another week. But after all that, he became the center of our lives. And he has continued to be such an important member of our family. We love you Big Al!
