Iain's Three!!!

It's official: Iain is three years old! Yipee!! And of course, we just had to celebrate.

What three year old's party would be complete without at train-shaped birthday cake?

There were a lot of presents to be opened, but Iain was equal to the task.

A "Thomas the Tank Engine" sweater knit especially for Iain by his great auntie Jean.

Borrowing Mr. Potatohead's glasses.

Okay, so about a month ago Iain told us that he wanted a "church hat" like Geoff's--which isn't exactly an easy thing to find in his size. But Grandma Carol persevered and found him one. Here are some pictures of him posing with it on. The first picture is what you get when you tell Iain to smile.

Here's Iain's new apron that we simply must test out by baking a batch of cookies once all the birthday cake is gone.

Why oh why do they make kid's toys so hard to get out of the packaging?!?

Did I mention that I'm really sick and tired of snow and winter in general. I'd be very grateful for some sunshine and temperatures in the 50's. Heck, even temperatures in the 40's would be a huge improvement.

Santa Claus

Well, it snowed yet again last night. Punxsutawney Phil is lucky he lives so far away, or I'm sure we'd be having groundhog stew to get even with him for his little shenanigan of predicting an early spring.

After shoveling the sidewalks and driveway, Iain and I decided to stay outside and play for awhile before heading back inside for some hot chocolate. We made snow angels and then got the buckets out the sandbox and started building a snow castle.

Now, most of you probably don't know this, but Iain's favorite thing to do with snow is to eat it. His next favorite thing is to crawl around it in and then plant his face in it. The kid hates getting water on his face in the bathtub but loves a freezing face full of snow...go figure! Anyway, here is a video of him using snow as part of his costume for a Santa Claus impersonation.

Here's Iain with the snow castle we built. He really had fun adding the "flags" on top.

Once There Was A Snowman

This morning we woke to wet, heavy, snowman snow, so Iain finally got to make a snowman!

Iain's 1st Dentist Appointment

Iain had his first dentist appointment today and did very well. He sat in the dentist chair and got to push the buttons to make the chair go up and down. Surprising both me and Geoff, he opened his mouth for the hygienist, let him count his teeth, and even let him brush his teeth and squirt water in his mouth. Then he let dentist check out his teeth as well. As I said, Geoff and I were both really surprised at how well he did. And to top it all off, Iain got a new Winnie-the-Pooh tooth brush and a little parachute toy to take home.

I just have a feeling that potty training (no, we're not currently working on it) is going to be difficult with Iain. Tonight we were getting him ready for his bath in the bathroom. It wasn't until he was completely naked that he decided to pee...all over the floor. At least we weren't in his room where he could pee on the rug. I knew I should have put that carpet cleaner on my Christmas list. Oh well, at least we know where we can borrow one.
