here and there...

With it being a long weekend, Danny and I decided to make the most of it and keep ourselves busy. On Friday, he worked a half day and then went and played a round of golf. Owen and I stayed home, went for a walk and finished cutting out flowers and tags for Joanna. On Saturday we had planned to get up early and drive over to Cullowhee to see the changes on Western's campus and to just walk around (school is not in session right now, so we had the entire campus to ourselves.) Owen decided to take an EXTRA long nap, therefore we didn't leave until almost 3:00pm. It takes about an hour and a half to get there, so we really should have left much earlier, but we still had plenty of time to enjoy ourselves. We parked in the center of campus and walked around, showing Owen all the buildings where we had class, the dorms we lived in, the new and improved stadium. It was a very "remember when" kind of afternoon. Once we left campus, we drove down to the apartment we lived in just before and for a short time after we got married.

Owen at the Alumni Bell Tower

On Sunday we drove down to Spartanburg to visit with Danny's grandparents (Nana & Bobo.) Bobo is a professional golfer and Danny has been itching for him to give him some lessons. While the two went to the golf course, Nana, Owen and myself stayed at the house. Nana is such an interesting woman and I always enjoy her company. When we weren't talking about and oohing over Owen, she was telling me all about her upcoming trip to The Antarctic . I ought to mention Nana is in her 70's and is planning to take the adventurous trip where you are doing more than just viewing antarctica from a cruise ship. Once she takes this trip, the only continent she'll have not visited is Australia.

On Monday we took Owen to Toys R Us (for the first time) and spent my flower cutting stipend. It was SO much fun!!!! I can't imagine what shopping for birthday's and Christmas will be like. We went down every aisle and attempted to stimulate Owen with different toys. We ended up getting him a little piano, maracas, a little hammer, touch and feel balls, a drum, and a stuffed Nemo. Out of all these, the only two he seems to like right now are the piano and Nemo.

Owen had carrots for the first time tonight. He seemed to really like them (more so than the peas I keep hoping he'll like.) After he drooled carrots all over my carpet and himself, I decided to put him in an orange onesie.

When you are as cute as Owen...

you get your picture taken a lot!

Here are a few pictures of Owen from the other day. He is wearing his shorty overalls from his Aunt Alice. She always buys him the cutest stuff!

Almost cried....

It was time for Owen to take his nap today and rather than going down like he normally does, he decided to be extra fussy. I needed to do some vacuuming, so I put him in his swing (he hasn't been in his swing in almost a month seeing as though he is too big for it and it barely swings.) When I turned the music on, I started to tear up. It brought back so many emotions I had when he was born and would swing almost daily (OK, so I know he is only 6.5 months, but still it was most certainly a momemt for me.)

Only a few days old...

Guess where we went today???

Owen and myself along with our neighbor Amy and her son, Adam, went to see Sesame Street Live's Super Grover! Ready for Action. Owen seemed to really enjoy himself. He was smiling, laughing and jumping in my lap. I have to say, I enjoyed myself as well :)

Beach Vacation

This past weekend we traveled to IOP for a mini-vacation and to celebrate Danny's birthday. We started by taking Molly & Sam to Grandma Karen's house for a little backyard playtime (thanks again for watching them for us. I know they had a GREAT time.) Friday morning we left Denver and headed to Summerville to visit with Alice, Stan and little Colin and then we were off to the beach. We checked into The Palms and a little while later Owen and I made our way to the pool (this was his first time in the water.)

On Saturday, Alice, Stan and Colin joined us at the beach and pool until Danny and Stan went off to play golf at Wild Dunes. While they were enjoying a round of golf, Alice and I took the boys to the park and played on the swings we also got to watch a wedding on the beach. Oh, and did I mention we stopped at Ben and Jerry's for some ice cream????

On Sunday Danny, Owen and myself spent some family time on the beach. It was very relaxing and Owen seemed to be the hit of our little section of sand. Once he finally dozed off Danny and I enjoyed catching some rays and listening to the sounds of the ocean. Around 5:00pm we packed up and headed to pick-up our fuzzy children at Grandma's and then we headed home. Although Danny and I were sad when our much needed vacation ended, we are always glad to be back home.

Happy Birthday...

to the love of my life! Danny, I hope this birthday is a special as your 1st, 6th, 14th, and 23rd (ok, and all the others too...these are the only ones I could find pictures from.)

I LOVE you!!!!

Here's what Danny's b-day card reads:
(front)
"You know what you look
really SEXY doing?
Well, it's vacuuming.
Something about watching
such a powerful man
push a powerful machine
across the willing carpet...
ooh! It just gets me."
(inside)
"Be sexy on your birthday, Baby.
Be sexy all the time."

and a HAPPY early BIRTHDAY to our dear friend Joanna.

Mother's Day

What a PERFECT day!!!

This morning Danny made me breakfast in
bed; Belgium Waffles with fruit, chocolate sauce and whip cream and a
cup of my new favorite kind of coffee. He also had two cards for me, one very sweet card from him and the most adorable card from little O(which he signed himself.)

Off to spend the day with my most-perfect little family!

6 months old

My little guy is 6 months old today and as I sit here and reflect on all he has done this month, I get a little teary eyed. Why is my baby growing up so fast? It seems like just yesterday he was still growing and kicking inside me. Now he is growing and kicking and bouncing and eating and rolling over all right in front of me. It's just so amazing and all very surreal. I can't imagine what I'll be feeling 6 months from now as we celebrate Owen's first year of life.

Before I get too mushy, here is what O has been up to this month...

- can hold and grab things with his feet
- likes to play bicycle with mommy and daddy and finds it very funny!
- still loves to eat rice cereal (gets excited when he sees me making it)
- has really started to be interested in Molly & Sam. He reaches for
them and watches them very closely. He is doing good at just petting
them.
- is curious about different textures. I hear him all night scratching at the sides of his pack-n-play and his sheets
- loves books and things that he can put in his mouth
- has lost all interest in lying on his back (not into his play mat anymore)
- rolls over A LOT! We can't leave him anywhere by himself anymore.
- still loves music and to be read to. We are going to visit a Kindermusik to see if he likes it. The semester is almost over, so we can't take classes until after Labor Day.
- stays up almost ALL DAY. He will take two short naps (sometimes)
- still getting up to eat every 2-3 hours at night
- tried peas for the first time (yesterday...so he was almost 6 mos)and liked them
- LOVES going for walks w/me. He still puts his feet on the snack tray which I think is too cute!
- LOVES jumping in his Jumperoo! Whenever you hold him in the standing position he will jump like he's still in the jumperoo.
- still sits in his Bumbo (mostly we use it for a high chair since we don't have one yet)
- his hair is growing back from where it had rubbed off
- reaches for and grabs things that are close to him
- reaches for us when he wants to be picked-up or when he is done jumping or bouncing
- squeals and screams, at a very high pitch, when he is happy or excited
- has the sweetest smile for Danny when he comes home from work
- holds our faces and gives us open mouth kisses and licks
- likes his own washcloth to chew on while getting a bath
- is wearing some 6-9 month and 12 month clothes
- is about to be wearing size 4 diapers

toilet paper fairy

Do all men believe in the toilet paper fairy?

This morning I asked Danny to go get some TP for our bathroom. He started to open the closet near our kitchen...

me: "you don't know where we keep the toilet paper, do you?"
him: "it's always in the basket on the back of the toilet"

How do they think the toilet paper gets there???????

before I was a mom.....

I never tripped over toys or forgot words to a
lullaby.

I didn't worry whether or not my plants were poisonous.

I never thought about immunizations.

Before I was a Mom - I had never been puked on.

Pooped on.

Chewed on.

Peed on.

I had complete control of my mind and my thoughts.

Islept all night.

Before I was a Mom I never held down a screaming child so doctors could
do tests.

Or give shots.

I never looked into teary eyes and cried.

I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin.

I never sat up late hours at night watching a baby sleep.

Before I was a Mom I never held a sleeping baby just because I didn't
want to put them down.

I never felt my heart break into a million pieces when I couldn't stop
the hurt.

I never knew that something so small could affect my life so much.

I never knew that I could love someone so much.

I never knew I would love being a Mom.

Before I was a Mom - I didn't know the feeling of having my heart
outside my body.

I didn't know how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby.

I didn't know that bond between a mother and her child.

I didn't know that something so small could make me feel so important
and happy.

Before I was a Mom - I had never gotten up in the middle of the night
every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay.

I had never known the warmth, the joy, the love, the heartache, the
wonderment or the satisfaction of being a Mom.

I didn't know I was capable of feeling so much, before I was a Mom.

(got this in an e-mail today)
