Ready for spring

This week it has been SO very nice. After spending a weekend in AZ my kids are very ready for Spring. I look at the parks around my house and there is still snow everywhere and where it has melted there is mud. Kaily asks me everyday, after looking outside and seeing the blue sky, if she can go to the park. It's still cold outside and with the kids getting sick I just don't want to chance it yet. I may be a bit paranoid...

With all of this nice weather it has gotten me going on my spring cleaning. I am really tired of clutter and I need to get it under control before it swallows me up. The only bad part of organizing and un-cluttering everything is you make a mess and then you have to clean it up all over again, only this time with more organization to everything.

Picture Tag

My friend Chirelle tagged me...
  1. Go to your documents/pictures.
  2. Go to your 6th file folder.
  3. Go to your 6th picture.
  4. Post and blog about it.
  5. Tag 6 people to do the same.

This is Clint when he was a little boy. He is playing in the irrigation ditch on the farm in Hyder AZ. What you can't see in this picture is his brother, Ben behind him. I cut him out b/c I was trying to get a good pic of Clint when he was a little boy. He says he's about 4-5 in this. he doesn't remember exactly how old. Wasn't he a cute boy?! His dad took the picture with an OLD camera so it's a bit grainy.

Ok, so I'm supposed to tag 6 people. Here you go: Stef J., Julie, Kate, Sarah, Angelica, Brianne

Sick babbies

My poor kids have been sick for quite a while. It all started the week of Kaily's birthday. Since then they have been passing it back and forth. Conner has been getting the worst of it. While Kaily is looking and acting better she is still really stuffy and has an awful cough. Conner is NOT getting better. While it's true he doesn't have a fever anymore he does still have the yucky eyes and the nasty nose that has to be wiped constantly not to mention the barking cough that sounds like he's chocking. So what does the Dr say about all of this. "It's just a virus that is going around, treat the symptoms as they come and if it get worse bring them in." I never took them in I just called the Dr. and that's what he told me. He also mentioned that Conner is probably getting a new virus before he gets over the others so his body is under attack from all sides. Poor boy! At least he still wants to play and have fun.

Boat chairs...

When my older brothers and I were little we had a "Boat chair". It was HUGE, at least that's how I remember it. I was talking to my mom about it the other day and she said that it was an old chair that she grew up with and used to play "boat" on. I have lots of fun memories on that chair and I wish I had a pic of it now so I could show you, but it's at the parents house, so it will have to wait for another day. ANYWAY, I was watching my kids play the other day and I hear Kaily tell Conner that he needs to get in the boat so they can go fishing. (Kaily has tied her play necklaces to an old pvc pipe.) She is sitting on our old recliner, which used to be at my late Grandpa's house, pretending it's a boat. Now they pretend it's a boat frequently as well as a rocket ship, a horse and anything else Kaily can think up. I think every child needs a "boat chair" to explore on.

Daniel & Adrianna's Wedding

This last weekend we went down to AZ for Clint's brother's wedding. The weather on the way down was terrible until we crossed over to NV. We rented a car, which I LOVED, and the kids were really good. We got there on Friday, the wedding was Thursday, but the reception was Saturday. Friday we played at the park with Ben and Theresa's family and took Amy's kids off her hands so they could wk on the wedding video. Uncle Ben took all the kids on a train ride and everyone seemed to have a lot of fun. It was SO nice to be in the warm sun and play where there was NO snow. Conner actually played in the dirt most of the time, eating it 3 different times. He actually licked it up, gross, but he learned that it didn't taste very good. Kaily had fun playing in the sand too with her cousins building things. On Saturday we headed to Payson AZ for the reception. Everything was so beautiful and Adrianna's family did such a great job decorating. It was fun to get to know them and we are so thankful to them for letting us stay there and the yummy food they provided for us. Poor Conner got really sick just before we left and the worst of it hit him the night of the reception. He was miserable. The dresses Amy made for the girls were very cute and Kaily loves hers. We are so happy for Daniel and A and we wish them happiness.

Party at Grandma and Papa's house

On Sunday, February 8 we had a party for Conner and Kaily at my parents house. My brother's family was in town and so we celebrated with them too. It was so much fun to see them again. My dad made a big dinner, as usual, is was SO yummy! Kaily and Conner had fun playing with their cousins and I had fun visiting with the family. Kaily had gotten a cold so she was a little out of it most of the night. Everyone was there, but we missed seeing Grandma GG.

Princess Party

On Saturday February 7 we had a Princess Party for Kaily. We decorated the front room with princess stuff and princess colors. The girls each had their own tiara to decorate and then we played "pin the apple on Snow White". All the girls dressed-up and had a great time. My friend, Daniel, helped me get the girls going on playing other games with balloons and ring around the rosy. We had cake, opened presents and then let the girls loose in Kaily's room to play dress-up and pretend until the mom's came to get them. Clint was such a big help in decorating and running at the last min. to get the cake. Kaily had so much fun! Thanks to everyone who gave me some great ideas and websites to look at, it helped SO much.

Snow according to Kaily

On the way home from preschool today Kaily asked me where snow came from. I tried to give her a simple answer, but the simple ones never satisfy her so I proceeded to tell her about the water cycle. I think I may have messed something up b/c at end of the explanation she states, "So, it's poop." I paused for a moment just to let what she said sink in. "What did you say?" She said very mater of fact like, "Mom, the snow is cloud poop." Well, I guess that's one way to look at it.

Enjoying the Moment

Yesterday was Kaily's 4th birthday and she is sick. We kept her home from school and just did a movie marathon with her all day. For her birthday we gave her The Little Mermaid videos, all three of them. She just wanted to snuggle with me and so I let her. I'm ashamed to say that it's been a while since I've just sat and cuddled Kaily on my lap. I had forgotten how much I enjoy it. Clint made her a good lunch and we had a tea party with her new tea set while we watched the movies. I could tell how much it meant to her and I realized that even though she received all these things for her birthday the one thing she wanted more than any of it, the one thing she will remember is that Mom spent all day just being with her. I feel bad that it took her getting sick for me to remember. That's why I like this quote for today. I think it sums it all up for me.

"What can . . . young mother[s] [do] . . . to reduce the pressure [of raising young children] and enjoy [their families] more? . . . "Recognize that the joy of motherhood comes in moments. There will be hard times and frustrating times. But amid the challenges, there are shining moments of joy and satisfaction. "Author Anna Quindlen reminds us not to rush past the fleeting moments. She said: 'The biggest mistake I made [as a parent] is the one that most of us make. . . . I did not live in the moment enough. This is particularly clear now that the moment is gone, captured only in photographs. There is one picture of [my three children] sitting in the grass on a quilt in the shadow of the swing set on a summer day, ages six, four, and one. And I wish I could remember what we ate, and what we talked about, and how they sounded, and how they looked when they slept that night. I wish I had not been in such a hurry to get on to the next thing: dinner, bath, book, bed. I wish I had treasured the doing a little more and the getting it done a little less' (Loud and Clear [1004], 10-11)." ~M. Russell Ballard~

"Mom, I'm hungry"

Everyday for the past 2 weeks, all day long, I hear, "Mom, I'm hungry". I can feed her a full meal and she says she's full and then an hour later she's at it again. At first I thought maybe she was just thirsty and confusing it with hunger so I started making her drink more throughout the day, but it hasn't made a difference. I can't keep up with her. She goes through snacks, ie: crackers, fruit snacks, apples, oranges, carrots, cheese, yogurts, bread (toast), cooked peas, cooked corn, so fast that I don't know what to buy and what to do. I am fresh out of ideas for her. I'm hoping this is just a growth spurt and things will calm down in a bit. It's not like she's big either, the girl is only 33 lbs and will be 4 next week. That means she's only in the 25% for weight. Maybe she just has a ridiculous metabolism like her father. Any way, by the end of the day I'm SO tired of hearing how hungry she is that I feel like pulling my hair out. When I tell her that maybe she's NOT hungry her reply is always, "Mom, people have to eat and if I'm hungry than I need to eat!" I hope I don't give her a food complex, goodness!

Buba is ONE

I can't believe it's been one whole year since Conner was born. In some ways it feels like yesterday that he was so tiny in my arms and he and I were cuddling in the hospital bed together. Now he is ALL over the place, he hardly sits still anymore. He has become the biggest tease and he loves to laugh...and whine. (= So how did we celebrate his birthday? We went to a Super Bowl party at a friends house. We gave him a cookie for his treat and let him eat it himself, that is until it started to get everywhere. This Sat we are having a party for Kaily and then Sunday we will celebrate with the whole family. Happy Birthday my little boy!

My kids and I at 1

Kaily at 1
Me at 1
Conner at 1
I think Conner and I look more a like than Kaily and I. I wish I had a picture of Clint at 1 so we could compare, but I don't. Just thought this would be interesting to look at.
