Nürnberg
Nürnberg was scheduled into our trip as a good "midway point" between destinations we wanted to see. Luckily, it ended up being a really great place itself! We arrived there around 11pm, but some nice strangers on the train helped us call the hotel and let them know we'd be late. The walk from the train station to the hotel was quite a ways, especially since I printed off dumb maps.
We got some glimpses of the gem that this city is, even at midnight.
And even stopped for some midnight gelato along our walk.
We stayed at Hotel Elch, it was first recorded as an inn in 1342, and is the oldest hotel in the city. We had a room on the top floor and climbed many squeaky stairs to get there. The colored chandelier made everything feel classy.
In the morning, we woke up to this view out the window. Good MORNING Nürnberg!
We packed up our bags and went out to explore the city. First, we took some pictures with our sweet little hotel.
This way to the Imperial Castle (Kaiserburg)!
The view from the castle was beautiful since it is set up on the hill. It was a perfect morning over all these red roofs.
The Chapel of the Castle is one of the oldest original parts of it, from around the 1200s.
There is a black and white picture of an American soldier wearing this crown at the end of WWII. Nürnberg was basically Hitler's headquarters, and the Nazi party conventions were held here and the war trials were held there after. Like most of Germany, it was bombed heavily during the war. Of the castle, the chapel and Sinwell tower weren't destroyed, and the rest has been rebuilt to look like it did originally.
Sometimes strangers just can't stop taking pictures. :)

Some really nice Ukranian ladies took this picture - we couldn't speak a word to each other besides "America" and "Ukraine" but photography knows no language barriers.
The grounds and gardens were so beautiful. I was amazed at how green everything still was on the last day of September.
We walked back to our Hotel and picked up our bags, then headed through the city to eat lunch on our way to the train station.
We ate lunch where those red umbrellas are on the right. There was a yummy little cafe where we got a sandwich and a Thai curry dish. The food was great and the view was even better.
Gelato for dessert!
