I think it is about time I updated my blog. I used love to cook until tonight. Harley and I have callings with the SUU Cedar City Stake 3rd ward as advisors for the college kids. It is alot of fun. Harley (maybe we) and the ward wanted to do something really neat for the kids before they went home for Christmas break so we did a big seafood dinner party for 140 kids. I have never seen so much seafood at one time for a long time. We had Alaskan King crab legs, Shrimp three different ways, scallops sauteed in garlic butter, salmon, and swordfish. I also made pasta with two different sauces, salads, relish trays and pastries... We had so much food and not a drop left. They loved it. The adults loved it and--- I never want to see another shrimp for a long time. All in all life is good. If I don't write again before Christmas, I just want you all to know how much I love you and hope that you make it a Merry Christmas. Some of our best Christmases have been when we were the poorest or had the most obstacles to overcome. Shelby--if you read this, I just want to tell you that Cedar is a great place to go to school. There are a bunch of great kids there and lots of cute guys that would swarm all over you. They have such a great time. Think about it!!!! Sarah had a good time when she was in school here. And it has only gotten better. She went to school in the olden days (12 years ago).

UEA weekend at Grandma and Grandpa's

As you can tell by the smiles on faces, we had a fun time on Friday, carving pumpkins with the kids. Sarah, Lain and the kids came from Centerville for the four-day break and we decided to have a good time and take advantage of every minute that we could. Gavin was almost the first one done. He is a busy kid. He wants to make sure that he gets to do everything before time to go home. They got to design their own. Abbie just watched each cousin doing their thing and really wanted to dig in too.
Campbell has a bigger, toothier grin than his pumpkin. All weekend long, he would go out on the porch and make sure it was okay and would arrange it so his was in front. He was so proud. Sarah told him there was no room in the van for them to take them home and he was heartbroken. He is so tenderhearted. Campbell, Grandma is taking good care of it for you. Hope mom will do some more with you now that you are home. Grandpa seems to see a resemblance between Mason and his pumpkin---Can you? Preston, too!!! It's kind of eerie what a likeness the pumpkins have to their creators! Savannah always has a great big smile. Adam's Jack O' Lantern takes on the look of the Hunchback (not even going to attempt to spell that one). Lain playing football with the boys with Abbie right in the middle of things. She is happiest when she is outside. I know which one gets my vote for cutest pumpkin. Abbie!!!! Don't you just want to eat him up? I mean McKay!! Olivia (Livvy) is so proud. She loves coming to Grandma's. She just reminds me so much of Meggie when she was a little girl. Isn't she pretty?Mr. Mischief!! You just always know Camden is cooking up trouble somewhere. I just know for a fact that I have the cutest kids and grandkids around! Meg and Malinda came up on Friday so that Dean could study for mid-terms. We had all four girls and ten grandkids at the same time. It seems to be a rarity these days now that everyone is getting older and lives are busier. This is the year for all the girls and their families to spend Thanksgiving with the in-laws so I made a turkey dinner on Saturday so we could have a make-shift holiday together. No pies though. They were too much trouble. Saturday night most of us got to go to Olive Garden for dinner. Jaime had to work and we got a babysitter for the kids. I think we all enjoyed the whole weekend. I know I did. This is when I realize that I am truly blessed and there is so much to be thankful for.

TAGGED!

Okay, Meggie, Not really sure about seven things about myself. I am experiencing long and short term memory loss lately. But--here goes. Here's how to play:1. Link your tagger and list these rules on your blog.2. Share 7 facts about yourself on your blog, some random, some weird.3. Tag 7 people at the end of your post by leaving their names as well as links to their blogs.4. Let them know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog. 1. I used to be able to clasp my toes together just like you can clasp your fingers together. 2. When I was in high school, my dream was to be in the MoTab. (tee-hee) I would go around the house singing as loud as I could. My voice was quite good too. Then, something changed and I lost all my confidence. Now, I wish I would have just followed my dreams.
3. I never thought I would get married, plus, I never wanted bratty kids like my brothers and sister had. What horrible, unruley kids they had!!! I was afraid those characteristics were genetic and I sure didn't want kids like that. ( Keep in mind that I was in Junior High and High School when I was thinking those things)Amazingly--I love all of those kids now plus I have four beautiful and glorious daughters of my own, nothing like those nieces and nephews, who turned out to be my life and have loved every minute with them.
4. I love to cook for people. I alway wanted to own a bed and breakfast or a hunting lodge so that I could have lots of people come and stay so that I could cook for them.
5. I love going to the mountains and listening to the wind in the Quakies. The mountains have always made me feel so close to Father in Heaven. Being in the trees is so peaceful. That's why I had to have a place of my own with trees. We have never had a home (when we lived in Las Vegas) that had mature trees or if they were getting bigger, Harley wanted to sell. You know those places in Vegas that I loved to go in that had country decor that had several tape players--one would play bird sounds, another would play water sounds,...I would go in them just to hear the combinations of nature. Wierd, huh?
6. I used to polka with my Dad in the living room. He loved to dance and so did I. He would get so tickled, on Saturdays, he and Mom would watch Lawrence Welk, and when Bobby and his partner would dance, I would dance right along with them. I was really a Geek, wasn't I?
7. I never thought I would get to seven. Trying to dig up things that my daughters wouldn't know since they are probably the only ones that read this has really been hard. Last, but not least, I am really glad that I made the choices that I made later in my life. Things like straightening up my act, getting married to the guy that I married, having all four of my girls, marrying in the temple, having all four of my girls marry in the temple to their eternal companions, moving to New Harmony, Keeping close to my siblings and spending as much time with them as I possibly could, learning and applying all of the good things that I can from my husband and the list goes on. Life is great, regardless of the trials and like Harley says, " Don't sweat the small stuff." Things are great when you look back on them years from now.
The only trial I have now is that I don't have anyone to tag. Meg tagged them all.

I love to sew

Last week I had a great time just staying home and sewing. I had forgotten how much I really enjoyed it. I finished the draperies for our bedroom and bath and helped Kacey with make pajamas for the boys. This week, I hope to do some more stuff after I winterize the property a bit. I think everyone needs something for an escape. I always had sewing for just that purpose. I have two more grandbabies on the way so I better get the living room curtains done before I start with the stuff for them.

This Guy is for the Birds

About the only thing that is growing the way it should in my garden is the pumpkins and melons. I'm finally getting tomatoes but it will probably freeze before they start producing alot(or not at all). There is one problem---the birds are coming in the garden and pecking at them. So- Kacey and the boys came out yesterday after Mason got out of school and we made Jack. The boys had a great time and so did their grandma. I love it when my grandkids come out and do projects together. Those times are getting fewer and farther between because they are getting bigger and busier with their own outside activities. I will continue to cherish each and every moment and be thankful to have them when I can.

the Party Crashers

This weekend was a "Blast from the Past". My best friend from high school, Deb Snow, and I decided to crash the reunion of the class of 1968 (we were from the class of '69'). It was a lot of fun. We saw a lot of the friends that we hung out with. Man, there were a lot of old people there. It's so amazing how we change and for the most part our priorities are more grounded. Oh--there are still those that think that success is measured by their toys and then there are those that are humble and truly love their families and the everyday experiences that have brought them to this point.

We had a ball. I would highly recommend it to anyone. The early reunions are for show and the later ones are to meet the real people. It is always great to get with Deb. It always seems like no time has passed since the last time I saw her.

After the reunion, I spent the rest of the weekend till Sunday with siblings and some of there kids and then spent Sunday and Monday with Sarah, Lain and the kids before coming home today. I had a great time.

But----I am ready for a nap!!! GOOD NIGHT!

p.s. there are no pictures. Remember--I'm old.

Hey Mom!
This is what you started.
And this.
PLUS we have Dean now, so add one more!!!
We're still not finished!!!

Sarah
P.S. I really hate these pictures!!!!!

What have I started???

WELL>>>> December 9, 1972: Met this guy on a blind date. I had a terrible time but I thought the guy was cute and my mom thought he was a "looker". January 13, 1973: Married the guy in my oldest brother's living room by the bishop of our new ward. I was scared to death. After having two of the cutest baby girls in the world, I couldn't bear the thought of not having them in the eternities. We were sealed for Time and Eternity in the St. George, Utah temple on August 26, 1976. Two more georgeous daughters followed. We had no sons but we have made up for that with seven grandsons and three granddaughters. We raised our family in Las Vegas and in 2002 moved to New Harmony, UT where we now reside. It's a great place for our four daughters to bring the ten grandkids to play and have a little taste of what farm life and the country might be like. I hope you all enjoy sharing in my little piece of heaven. OH, by the way, the guy's name is Harley.
