Gone Fishin'

Beauty in the Common Things: Sharing laughter with the ones you love. Daniel and I watched a cheesy horror film this afternoon and nitpicked it to death. I can't stand people doing that while I am watching it..unless I instigated it first!

Listen In: Bubble Guppies, presented by Nick, Jr.

Dinner Plans: Steaks from the grill

View from the Kitchen Window: freshly mowed yard that I sweated over last night and this morning

These last couple of weeks have been busy, busy. I procrastinated a bit and had to kick myself in the tail to complete my internship, but I finished and now I'm DONE with my master's degree! It'll be all official in August, but I'm DONE! Now I can, uh....uh...tell you all about how to integrate technology into education, I guess (amongst other things!).

Daniel has continued with recovery and I'm still on lifting duty for him. The lawnmower and weedeater have become more familiar to me. However yesterday, I did a round around the yard once and discovered I didn't have the blade down. Whoops. A couple more weeks and the yard won't look so jacked up.

This past weekend we joined the Father & Son Fishing Trip with our church. I tagged along as a lifter, however I was more excited about it than Daniel I believe. I have fond memories of riding in my Dad's truck with my parents, brother, sister, and a cold Dr. Pepper to our farm and going fishing on sunny Texas weekends. I don't remember catching many fish, but I don't remember hating fishing either. I do know that I did NOT have to put the worms on the hook. I had to learn that years later in college when I tried not too look too much like a sissy in front of the boys that would take me fishing on the lake. Ok, back to this weekend...we all caught a few fish, nothing to go home and brag about.

This past week I finally got some videos uploaded to share:

This one is from his day care graduation. Notice what he wants to do when he grows up. Entomologist??

This one was taken a while back. My brother got me Just Dance 2 for the Wii and this one for Grant. It was funny to watch him dance with the silly kids in costumes.

Friends, Firemen, Fireworks, and for my Husband...Freedom!

Listen In: A snoring 3 year old who FINALLY decided to take a nap.

View from the Kitchen Window: A yard that needs to be mowed. I'm now on lawn care duty because Daniel is still in recovery mode from surgery. The Snapper and I shall be reintroduced tonight.

Daniel has continued to mend well from his surgery. By the end of the week, he was begging to get out of the house. We met some friends for dinner and us ladies did some shopping. Ah, how I've missed shopping for no specific purpose! After that, Daniel decided to take us to see some fireworks, post Ranger game. Now Grant could enjoy the fireworks without the imagination (see previous post)! Daniel sat in the truck, resting, and Grant and I layed down in the bed of the truck to enjoy the free show on a nice Texas night.
We arrived home quite late, but it was a pleasant spur of the moment night.

Later that week, we joined some friends for Family Night at Chick-Fil-A. Let me tell you why I love Chick-Fil-A. Good food, healthy choices, clean facilities, model owner, and their mascot makes my son look like this:
He was scared at first, and the he couldn't get enough of that cow.

This night was focused on firemen and firetrucks. A little boys dream!

Here is that cow again...
The boys got paper firetrucks and these hats that we decided made them look more like the Pope than a fireman!

In traditional Texas fashion the weather has been changing daily here. This weekend was no exception. Yesterday was absoluety gorgeous. Not too cold, not too hot and sunny. MiMi, Grant, and I spent the day shopping, then we enjoyed be evening outdoors. My little boy has upgraded to a big boy swing!!

Paging Dr. Mommy & Dr. Grant

Daniel had abdominal hernia surgery yesterday. He is doing well thanks to some great care, great medicine, and some time off of work.

The in-laws came in to help, my parents fed us dinner, and Grant and I have been keeping Daniel entertained and well fed and hydrated.

This afternoon we got out Grant's doctors kit for a patient check up from Dr. Mommy and Dr. Grant. Both board certified, of course.

Cutting the 'boo boos' off of his arm.
A shot always makes things better.
Time to take your temperature!
Lets keep that blood pressure monitered! What a great patient, you get a sucker!

Animals: Wanted Dead or Alive

Spring Break we spent several days, all day outside working on our house. Grant was so excited to see that the butterflies that were emerging. He kept yelling, "Mommy, look at the beautiful butterflies!" then he'd try to chase them. So I decided to get him a butterfly 'growing kit' that they had been advertising in catalogs and on TV.

You get this net cage type thing and send in for some live caterpillars. There is built in food in the jar. They about doubled in size everday for about a week and a half then made their cristalises (spelling?). Thats when we moved them to the netted cage. About a week later, we had 5 pink lady butterflies!

Although Grant looks happy in this picture, so much so you can't see his eyes, he was mad we had to set them free.

This past weekend we took a road trip to Glen Rose, TX. First stop, Fossil Rim Wildlife Park.

Buffalos were the first attraction. Everytime I see these things, I'm reminded of my family's vacation to Yellowstone National Park. That was some fun times!

Grant was so excited, and the weather was nice and cool. Not too hot.

I tried all day to get a good picture of Grant and I. This is about the best one I could get.

Grant loved pretending to drive the truck with Daddy.

These zebras are actually called "Grant's Zebras".

He was our official map reader.

Sleepy rhino.

Rude deer.

You can't see it really well, but this deer had some really jacked up teeth!

We fed all kinds of animals, but they weren't as active as our last trip there.

Next stop, Dinosaur World!

Coolest trashcan, ever.

The Dinosaur World consisted of a museum, playground, fossil dig, and a mile trail with life size dinosaur figures.

"Longneckies" as Grant would say.

Grant was great a stopping, posing, and saying cheese for me.

Everything that was large with short arms was a "T-Rex"

"Spikey"

This one was just weird. There were many dinosaurs that I'd never seen before or heard of. Grant ran through it so fast though, I didn't have a chance to get really educated!

According to the show "Dino Dan" on Nick, Jr. that we watch, these dinosaurs used those things on their heads as a horn to communicate with each other.

Inside the museum with a stegosaurus.

Scary....

Adorable...

On a fossil dig.

This left handed digger found several fossils to take home.

As you can see by that beet red face, the TX sun was beginning to get warm that afternoon. From there we went home for a long nap ;)
