The hardest thing about being a mom watching my children grow up. I am gonna miss this moment, what moment are you gonna miss? Blog it and link it with Pam.

Just like our parents took care of us when we were younger, it is our turn to take care of them.  I call it "Habitat for Grandparents' Humanity". Jeff spends his vacation working on either my mom's or his parents' homes. The kids and I went with him in the past. Because Mark is in school, Jeff went solo.

Just like the good old days, he is at home with his parents. When he chopped down the tree in the backyard, I wonder if flashbacks of him playing in the backyard went through my mother-in-law's mind. What about when he fixed the broken door knob? Does she remember a nine year old  trying to take the door knob apart? As I wonder about my mother-in-law and Jeff,  I start to think about me and Mark.

In a few short years, Mark will be off to college and to his first job. He will eventually get marry and have kids. When his family come for a visit, his dad and I will tell our grandkids the things he did when he was their age. Of course, Jeff and I will be older. Mark will take the lead role of "Habitat for Grandparents' Humanity." Jeff and I will be his #1 client.

When Mark is outside doing yard work, I will have flashbacks of an  8 year old boy braving himself  as he climbed to the top of  the tree.

I wish I coud capture this moment and time in a bottle. I am already missing  it. What moment did you miss or will you miss some day? Blog it and link it with Pam.

Every Christmas, I would buy canisters and fill them with chocolate covered pretzels.

I was about to do the same thing this year, until this canister caught my eyes.

The red canister reminded me of plastic containers I've been collecting this year.

Instead of  purchasing new ones, I decided to make my own.

Katherine came up with the tissue paper and the ribbon. Doesn't it look like a shepherd?

Christmas in Florida

In a few years, I'm gonna miss this moment.

Katherine did an awesome job decorating
the tree.  Once upon a time, I was helping her
decorating the tree.

Our Christmas tree is filled with  family Christmas
pictures, and of the kids' school pictures.

Jeff made this when he was in kindergarten.
His mom gave it to me after we were
married.

This is Mark's gift to me and Jeff when he was in kindergarten.

Since Katherine didn't go to school, we made hers at home.
These three frames go on our walls every Christmas.

Something new is added to our Christmas decor.

Our cabinet is our makeshift chimney

Our traditional Christmas Village. Even though Katherine
is 12, she still loves playing with the village.

From our house to your house, wishing you and your family a season you'll long remember for all the joy it brings.

JACK (age 3)
was watching his Mom breast-feeding his new baby sister.... After a while he asked: 'Mom why have you got two? Is one for hot and one for cold milk?'

MELANIE (age 5)
asked her Granny how old she was.. Granny replied she was so old she didn't remember any more. Melanie said, 'If you don't remember you must look in the back of your panties.. Mine say five to six.'

STEVEN (age 3)
hugged and kissed his Mom good night. 'I love you so much that when you die I'm going to bury you outside my bedroom window.'

BRITTANY (age 4)
had an ear ache and wanted a pain killer. She tried in vain to take the lid off the bottle. Seeing her frustration, her Mom explained it was a child-proof cap and she'd have to open it for her. Eyes wide with wonder, the little girl asked: 'How does it know it's me?'

SUSAN (age 4)
was drinking juice when she got the hiccups. 'Please don't give me this juice again,' she said, 'It makes my teeth cough..'

DJ (age 4)
stepped onto the bathroom scale and asked: 'How much do I cost?'

CLINTON (age 5) was in his bedroom looking worried When his Mom asked what was troubling him, he replied, 'I don't know what'll happen with this bed when I get married. How will my wife fit in it?'

MARC (age 4) was engrossed in a young couple that were hugging and kissing in a restaurant. Without taking his eyes off them, he asked his dad: 'Why is he whispering in her mouth?'

TAMMY(age 4) was with her mother when they met an elderly, rather wrinkled woman her Mom knew. Tammy looked at her for a while and then asked, 'Why doesn't your skin fit your face?'

JAMES (age 4)was listening to a Bible story. His dad read: 'The man named Lot was warned to take his wife and flee out of the city but his wife looked back and was turned to salt.' Concerned, James asked: 'What happened to the flea?'

The Sermon I think this Mom will never forget
...
This particular Sunday sermon....'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust...' He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

Twas the Night Before Christmas, when all through the abode
Only one creature was stirring and she was cleaning the commode.
The children were finally sleeping, all snug in their beds,
while visions of Nintendo and Barbie flipped through their heads.

Yes, and Dad was snoring in front of the TV,
with a half constructed bicycle propped on his knee.
So only the Mom heard the reindeer hooves clatter,
which made her sigh, "Now what is the matter?"
With toilet bowl brush still clutched in her hand,
She descended the stairs, and saw the old man.
He was covered with ashes and soot, which fell with a shrug,
"Oh great," muttered the Mom, "Now I have to clean the rug."

"Ho Ho Ho!" cried Santa, I'm glad you're awake."
"Your gift was especially difficult to make."
"Thanks, Santa, but all I want is time alone."
"Exactly!" he chuckled, "So, I've made you a clone."
A clone?" she muttered, "What good is that?"
"Run along, Santa, I've no time for chit chat."
Then out walked the clone --- The Mother's twin,
Same hair, same eyes, same double chin.
"She'll cook, she'll dust, she'll mop every mess.
You'll relax, take it easy, watch TV and rest.
"Fantastic!" the Mom cheered. "My dream has come true!"
"I'll shop, I'll read, I'll sleep a night through!"

From the room above, the youngest did fret.
"Mommy! Come quickly, I'm scared and I'm wet."
The clone replied, "I'm coming, sweetheart."
"Hey," the Mom smiled, "She sure knows her part."
The clone changed the child and hummed her a tune,
as she bundled the small one in a blanket cocoon.
"You're the best Mommy ever.? I really love you."
The clone smiled and sighed, "And I love you too."

The Mom frowned and said, "Sorry, Santa, No deal
That's MY child's LOVE she is going to steal."
Smiling wisely, Santa said:? "To me, it is clear,
Only one loving Mother is needed here."
The Mom kissed her child and tucked her in bed. "Thank You, Santa, for clearing my head. Sometimes I forget, it won't be very long,
before they'll be too old for my cradle and song."

The clock on the mantle began to chime.
Santa whispered to the clone, "It works every time."
With the clone by his side, Santa said, "Goodnight,
Merry Christmas, Dear MOM, you'll be all right."

Sometimes we need reminding of what life is all about.
Especially at times when the Holiday season shouts,
and all we do is clean, bake and procure.
You get the picture here --- I am sure.
So stop for a moment and hug that little one so dear,
whether he or she is 2, or 22, or even older this year.
For they are the gift that God gave us from Heaven above,
and what a special gift to be treasured, with a Mom's Endless> LOVE!!!!!
May the REAL meaning of Christmas be with you this year!!

It is very rare that I have an opportunity to have one-on-one time with Mark. When I do, I cherish every minute of it.  Friday was one of those rare moments. Because I had an early doctor's appointment,  I was able to take Mark to school. The thirty minute drive was priceless. Mark had an extra hour of sleep that morning; therefore, he was awake. Instead of listening to his Ipod, we were having a conversation about school, his friends and girlfriend, etc.

When we arrived at school, we said  "good bye and  I love you" before he got out.  Knowing that I'm gonna miss this moment in a few years,  I held back  the tears as he walked away.

"Someone dial 911, I'm being mauled by a troll!"

“I swear a Big Doberman busted in and just tore the place up”

"Uh, cat? What cat?"

Life is short!

Break the rules!
Forgive quickly!
Kiss slowly!
Love truly,
Laugh uncontrollably. .
And never regret anything
That made you smile.

My younger daughter Katherine totally surprises me.

When Katherine was younger, she had a hard time making friends. Whenever we went to the park, she clung to my side and refused to go play  with the other girls. I often had to introduce her to a group of girls, and left her to mingle.   After a few minutes, she either was playing by herself or was coming to sit next to me.

Katherine is still shy, when it comes to meeting new people. However, she does have a group of friends she hangs around with at our homeschooling co-op. Out of 6 sixth grade girls, she is friends with 5 of them. The sixth one is shyer than Katherine. The girl is the quietest one in class. During lunch period, she sits with her mom and sister. I rarely see her playing with Katherine and the other girls.

Remembering how Katherine didn't have any friends, I suggested that she should include the girl in the activities. Not getting any responses from Katherine,  I thought my suggestion went into one ear and out the other. Several days went by and I completely forgot about the conversation. However, as we were returning from dinner, Katherine announced that she will not buy anything new until she befriends with the girl. Mind you, this (not buying anything new) is a big commitment for Katherine. She rarely saves her allowances. When she has money, she spends.

Katherine is true to her words. When she went to class on Monday, she saved a seat next to her. Unfortunately, the girl was absent. She'll try it again next week.

What did you learn this week? Blog it and link it to  Musings of a Housewife.
