Our Weekend

For Family Home Evening we went back to Glenelg beach. For those of you who don't know what Family Home evening is we try to set aside monday evenings to spend time with our families. We do anything from having lessons, to playing games, to doing fun activites you enjoy as a family. So we decided to go to the beach because the kids wanted to swim anyway and we wanted to watch the sunset. It was beautiful and as it set it seemed to just melt into the water. It made it kind of a late evening. Oh I can't forget to mention that it didn't go off without some kind of problem. Sara got stung by a wasp. But we think it may have been dead and she knelt on it when she was digging in the sand , but that is not what she thinks. Whitney, Sara, Dallin and Carlee at Glenelg beach sunset

So on Sunday we went to church in the morning. In the afternoon we decided to go for a drive to the Adelaide hills and check out the views on Mount Lofty. It was great to see a different part of Adelaide, and of course we were not disappointed. We saw our first yield to Kangaroo sign and also a yield for Koala bears at night. We didn't end up seeing any kangaroos, but I did see a koala bear in a tree. We were driving on a narrow winding road so we couldn't pull over and get a picture of it!

The Adelaide hills are known for their vineyards. This one was huge. Even though we don't drink it is a really cool sight. This vineyard was huge and I loved the rolling hills.
view on Mt. Lofty-when it is a clear day you can see to another little island called Kangaroo Island. Not a clear day on this day.

First Kangaroo sign we have seen

So on Valentine's day we decided to spend the day sight seeing. Now that we have a house we are going to rent, and bought a car we can now enjoy Adelaide and what it has to offer. Adelaide has lots to do and see and you don't have to go far. We got on the free city bus and rode it to the Art Gallery which was very interesting for everyone but Dallin. He was a pretty good sport but we had to walk fast. There is also a lot of neat architecture so Dan took some pictures of the neat buildings here in the city. There are also statues all over. Due to our limited download we could only post a few. We walked through Adelaide arcade, and the crazy park you will see pictures of and then went to the Ayers house. Ayers house is a mansion from the 1840's that is really interesting. Our guide did a good job keeping the kids interest. There is time period furniture, costumes, toys, etc. That was for sure a highlight for us.

In the sity their are lots of Statues so here the kids are acting like statues. Dallin was scared though.
Adelaide Arcade-some fun little shops like a button shop that is walls and walls of containers of buttons. I think every shape and color. Wig shop etc.

A park in the city. There is a dog bone, fish bones, flip flop, some kind of ball, and grass sticking up. I am not sure what it all means but the kids liked running around it!

It is 9:40 and Dallin is suppose to be going to bed. Instead we hear this excited voice say " Mom, Come here-look house!" He was so excited that he figured out how to make a "house" for Elmo and bear out of his books. We couldn't resist indulging him a little.

More Adventures

So here are some more pictures of some of our adventures. We have slowed down the pace since the girls have been in school and we spend some of our time trying to find a Van, and rent a home. We have found both but still finalizing things. We will move to our rented home on Feb. 28th and hopefully pick up our 2002 Toyota Tarago on Thursday. One of the hardest things about trying to set up here is there is no "background" to us here, so things take a little more work. Everything is coming together though and for that we are grateful!

Central Market
We went to this place the first Saturday we were here but didn't take our camera. It is unlike anything I have been to in the states. I can only compare it to the Farmers market. It is like you see on TV though-lots of stands selling their goods but all under a roof. It is quite the place to be if you are looking for fruits and vegetables for a good deal. The best time to go is Saturday afternoon about 1:30 (pictured here). Everyone is trying to get rid of their goods because they are closed on Sunday and Monday, so you can really get good prices but everything can be pretty picked over at this point also. The Central Market has been around since 1870.

You can see me standing under the orange sign with my pink backpack. I was waiting to buy some sliced ham for $15.99 per kilogram (about 2.2 lbs).

River Torrens
We decided on Sunday evening that we would take some time to go and walk on a path next to the River Torrens. We really enjoyed our walk together and saw many birds, building, and bridges. It was a perfect evening for the walk. Nice weather for once.

Adelaid Convention Centre

This building is a University here in the city. They just call it a Uni. It is really a neat older building.
The girls watching the ducks and black Swans.
A great Gazebo just up a small hill from the path we were on.
These Cockatoo birds were flying all around. They are really loud birds and seemed pretty aggressive with the other birds in the area. They are beautiful birds though.
In the back ground the church sticking up is the oldest church in Adelaide. It is beautiful but we haven't gone inside yet.
The kids next to the River Torrens.

An other bridge we walked under on the path next to the River Torrens. The smaller arched area on the right is where you walk under the bridge.

The first bridge we walked over the River Torrens. It runs through the City.

Botanical Park
Rainbow Lorikeets! Sara was so excited to finally see them. We went to this park the first day we had the car, but didn't bring our camera so we had to go back to get pictures. One of the things we really enjoy about Adelaide is the different trees that are around. This park has many of them in one place. We really enjoy it here.

Look at the trunk of this tree. Really Cool. I have never seen a multi colored trunk before.

A neat white tree trunk.

See the tree with the big roots in the background? The kids just running around the area.
These trees are huge, and I have never seen roots grow out of the ground and are so deep before.

2nd Apt building

These 2 photos are our second place we lived. They are called the Windsor apts on Carrington St. The kids are standing out on the deck from our apt.

Whitney lost a tooth. Laying in bed one night.

Dallins stitches are out! Yeah! He screamed the whole time but luckily the Dr. was quick! It looks even better when the dried blood was off. Hardly noticable.
