Rest of Shannon's Bday

We celebrated Shannon's birthday and honored our freedom fighters on Memorial Day- what a great time we had! We started the day at the pool...hence the sunburns in the pictures later :)

And then a yummy cookout with the family to celebrate my birthday- thanks for all the thoughtful and useful gifts!

1st Treat from the Ice Cream Man

It's disheartening that the days of trusting all of the Ice Cream Truck Men are fleeting...but for a treat, Daddy got Brayden his very first Ice Cream Man treat :) I guess Summer is truly here!

No more pack and play...

It was a good thing we had a king bed in the hotel because for the first time, Brayden slept in the bed with us this weekend.  We found on our trip to D.C. that we could get him asleep in the bed early and then move him to the pack and play when we went to sleep.  That wasn't working this trip!

Friday night, I moved him just fine.  Then when we went to go to sleep as quietly as we could, he woke up and I was in no shape to try to get him back to sleep again...so he slept in between us!  I don't think either of us got much sleep...waking up multiple times to make sure he wasn't under pillows or either of us.

Saturday night...we tried relentlessly to get him to fall asleep in the big bed about 8:00 p.m.  Finally after an hour of nothing...I had had it and decided to let him cry it out in the pack n play (which was inside this room, doors closed).  He cried/whined for about 10 minutes and then dozed off.  When we went to go to bed later that evening, Danny quietly opened the sliding door and turned around and said... "Oh my gosh!  He isn't in his pack and play!"

He was sprawled out on the big bed with his blankie.  So he got himself out of the pack and play (with blankie in tow) and climbed up on the king size bed and fell asleep!  Who would move a sleeping baby at that point?

Shannon's 30th Birthday...What a Week!

I turned the big 3-0 this weekend and Danny had given me choices of what I wanted to do to celebrate! So...We started the birthday week off with a fabulous dinner at the Melting Pot with Jen and Rick!

Then the weekend surprise get-a-way with Danny and Brayden :)  I know most people wouldn't think taking the little one was a get-a-way, but it is also our 5th Wedding Anniversary coming up and he isn't coming on that surprise trip in July- so he got to come this time :)

Danny had told me:
- we were driving to where we were going
- we needed swim suits, but it wasn't a beach
- we needed good walking shoes
- the weather was going to be about the same as Houston
- we were staying in Texas

Friday morning we woke up super early and got the little one up...we unfortunetly found he had a 102degree temperature and after much thought, we decided he would be fine on the trip and if needed, my dad could call in prescriptions for him where we were going.

After getting through Houston, Danny let me open a fun Birthday Bag which had a very intricate outline/plan of the weekend- which I loved!  We were headed to Grapevine, TX to stay at the Gaylord Texan (I had visited the Opryland Gaylord many years ago with the Prestons and had heard this one was just as amazing!)

The view from our balcony
After getting a complimentary upgrade to a "deluxe" suite, we headed to our room...I should say apartment!
Friday afternoon we ventured into the big city of Grapevine and went to their Main Street Festival...if it hadn't of been the heat of the day with not a cloud in the sky, we would have liked it a lot better!  But, we did enjoy a stop at a local winery and Brayden enjoyed his first sip of cold water in a winery too :)
We had an amazing dinner at the Ama Lur restaurant to celebrate my birthday once again.  Brayden enjoyed the latin guitar band.
We had lunch with Danny's friends (and my blog friends) Grant, Erin and Cadie...We had a wonderful time meeting them.  Erin took a picture and I will steal a copy when she posts it :)

Saturday afternoon Danny had planned for us to take the Grapevine Steam Locomotive railroad to Fort Worth, but Brayden still had a temperature and I wasn't so sure being stuck without a car was a great idea.  So we will have to do that next time we come back. Instead we headed to the pool and enjoyed ourselves immensely. A few pictures from around the Gaylord...
Brayden's Favorite...the fish and choo-choo trains!
Sunday we got up and I was treated to a wonderful massage and pedicure while Danny and Brayden packed up the room...
For lunch, we had an amazing brunch at the Riverwalk Cafe in the Gaylord.  If you couldn't tell from the pictures, most of the resort is meant to look like the San Antonio Riverwalk...not sure why, but it does!
Sunday afternoon we headed to the Fort Worth Zoo- Brayden was beat, but we couldn't pass up seeing this amazing zoo that I have heard so much about. It was wonderful! Lots of shade- great animals and exhibits- we will be back!

THANK YOU to all of my friends and family that made my 30th birthday so much fun and meaningful!  Can't wait to continue the celebrations with family on Monday :) Nothing beats a birthday week!
