Zoo Boise

I took the kids to the zoo last Friday because it was an unbelievable day. It was maybe 67 degrees! We saw all the animals that we've never seen. They were loving the cool weather! Esther rode the carousel all by herself without me sitting up there with her! She liked it! Elliot loves to have his picture taken!

Garden Goodness

Washing potatoes

Here's a cute picture of Esther wearing a bow. Doesn't have to do with the garden.

I almost didn't plant potatoes this year because we DO live in IDAHO potato capital! but I am so glad we did! It is like a serious treasure hunt and the boys LOVE it! we only harvested 2 plants so far. The corn was a disappointment because I harvested most of it too late! BUMMER! But we have still be eating LOTS of corn on the cob.

Early morning mist

Here's a little gem of a place that we didn't have a clue about until our friend, Rick Reierson, suggested this place to us. It is about an hour and a half (3 hours away if your baby is screaming for the first hour of the drive :0) from Boise in the Boise National Forest. It has this beautiful lake/reservoir and a great little trail around it where we found LOTS of huckleberries, which we picked and picked and picked and then had some for breakfast in our pancakes the next morning. YUM! We went with our good friends, the Hughes, and a couple that Jon works with. We stayed Friday and Saturday nights. Good times! The weather was so pleasant too! It must have been 40 degrees at night and not more than 70 during the day.

Happy Birthday, Darin, May the Force be with you!

Here's Darin and his beaming pleasure of the 2 1/2 foot millenium falcon he got for his birthday. His favorite feature is the lighted up doorway that opens automatically with a hissing sound. Yes, this is a present for DARIN and not the boys, believe it or not. Although, he is good at sharing :)

Rainy Day Play

Playing in the wonderful rainstorm we got on Thurs and Fri where it rained ALL day. I couldn't believe it. August??? Rain??? 60 degrees??? I'll take that any summer!

Kathy's Cute Early Birthday Presents for Esther

Kathy Reierson, aka expert seamstress, watched our chickens for us while we were gone on vacation. When we came back, she came over to drop off the key and 3 adorable outfits for Esther, complete with their own hats! thanks, Kathy!

Sequoia National Park

We've decided that Sequoia would be our "special place" if we lived in So. CA because it is SO peaceful and surreal. The trees are unbelievable unless you see them. Polly told me that they filmed Star Wars Forest of Endor there! We were running from the mosquitos on this one hike we did in the Grove of the Giants, but we managed to get a few pix!

King's Canyon National Park

Inside a fallen Sequoia

We stopped here to see the General Grant Tree- America's Christmas Tree. It is 1,700 years old! It is supposed to be the second largest tree in the world! King's Canyon was beautiful, and we didn't have the time to do it justice as we were just passing through in on Friday on the way to Sequoia National Park.

Yosemite National Park

Poor Elliot! He is SO allergic to mosquito bites! Look at his eye all swollen from a bite he got on his upper forehead!

Adrian in front of Vernal Falls
A real trooper, Darin that is! Look at those granite stairs we climbed! It was probably half a mile of just straight up!

We made it to the bridge.... only .7 of the way! Now, on to the top!

It doesn't matter what the warnings say, he'd climb it anyway!

So, on Tues after the wedding, my parents joined us for a trip to Yosemite, Kings Canyon, and Sequoia National Parks. The drive was kinda long, but it is worth it. I have decided to make it a new life goal to visit all the national parks in the US before I die. We'll see....AK has a lot of parks! Maybe I can knock off two life goals at once and visit Alaska AND the national parks there. AK is the last state I have to visit of the 50 states to complete the life goal of visiting all 50 states. Anyway... Yosemite was pretty, but I've decided that Zion is just as pretty, closer, and less crowded. We camped there for 3 nights and saw all the sights you can see for such a short visit. We took a hike to see Vernal Falls. It took us 6 hours to do the 3 mile round trip. It has 1,000 feet of elevation gain in a mile and a half. So, it took a while to hike it with the 3 kids in tow...or rather, to carry them! Darin carried 80 pounds of kid for at least a mile and a half of the 3 miles! Way to go, Darin! It was STEEP!
