Sisters

My sister and I are 23 years apart in age.  She was already married, had kids, and lived 3000 miles away while I was growing up.  I always wondered what it would have been like to have a sister to grow up with.  Sisters just seem so close.  I think it is awesome that my girls have each other.  I always wondered what my nieces could possibly have to talk about when they were supposed to be going to bed but instead lay giggling for hours at night.  I hope that my girls will have that.  Evelyn already tries to play "mommy" with Elaina.  If Elaina has anything except a baby toy in her hands, Evelyn quickly rips it away even if I say "no it's ok if she plays with that."  Elaina is not so mild mannered and will shriek when her rights have been violated.  She lets her sister know in no uncertain terms that her toy has been taken away and she is not happy about it.  I wonder what will happen as they grow.  I hope they learn to work it out and be patient with one another.  I hope they are best friends.  I hope they think the other is the most awesome person in the whole world.

I love this picture of Ben missing his 2 front teeth.  And then this is us at Zion a month or so ago.  I really wish Elaina wasn't asleep in this picture because I love it.  You can see the water dripping form weeping rock in the picture.

This is what happens when I try to take pictures of the girls now side by side.  Usually it goes something like this..
Me:  Evelyn, can you be still so I can take a picture, ok now smile, no a real smile
Evelyn:  Sits for 2 seconds, gives me a fake smile like above, then runs to me so she can see the picture that I didn't really have time to take yet.

Repeat 5 or so times.  Then when Evelyn does try to smile, Elaina gets a hold of her hair, or face, or whatever else is in striking distance.

These are such fun days now.  Evelyn talks incessantly.  When we drive in the car she is constantly chattering away and wanting me to look and comment on everything she sees.  She wonders why I can't just turn around and look out her window at whatever she sees.  Nathan was EXACTLY the same way so I just chuckle that 2 children can be so much alike when one is a girl and one is a boy and they are 8 years apart in age.

Yesterday she was playing in the backyard with her brothers and the neighbor kids.  She came in carrying all her clothes and said , "clothes off"  Then she started pulling at her diaper saying "diaper off!"  I quickly put a stop to that.  I sure hope I don't find her in her bed with all her clothes and diaper off.

She asks to play with friends everyday first thing in the morning.

She loves to eat whenever anyone else is eating, and whatever anyone else is eating.

She has to go to bed with 4 blankies, one stuffed monkey named "Clawance", and 3 baby dolls.  Since she only sleeps in a port a crib there really isn't space for all of that.  Somehow amazingly enough she is a very obedient child and even though she can easily climb out of her pack n play, she doesn't until she calls for me and I come to get her.  Then she quickly says "Self" and climbs right out.

I need to get more pictures of the boys but I usually take pictures while they are at school.  I guess I will work on that this week.

Finger Painting

Evelyn had her first experience with finger paints this week. These picture are hilarious because they show the progression of her emotions from curious to upset to angry. Note: that is not lipstick- it is paint. She was doing fine until she realized that her hands were covered in paint and she does NOT like to have her little hands dirty. It took her about 2-3 minutes before she had enough. Meanwhile Ben happily painted for 30-40 min and continued to make finger paints after Dave got home from work. He is the artsy one in the family. He loves to color and draw.

Elaina's blessing was awesome. We did it at Dave's mom and dads house (in the living room) in San Diego last weekend. There were only a few people there because we decided to do it there at the last minute. The most important thing for us is to record the blessing, which we can't do in church so we have done it at his parents house the last two times. We used modern technology to stream it live to about 10 people via skype and facetime. That was pretty awesome. Dave's brother Alan and his wife Jessica drove all the way down from LA on short notice to get there at 730 pm and then went back home the same night! We were very touched that they would do that for us. Elaina was very pretty in her dress and behaved for the prayer. The bonus for us was that the weather was amazing down there and everything is green and blooming. When we stepped out of the car it smelled like spring! It never smells like that in Vegas. We had a great time and came home sunday (actually monday because it was 130 am) Whenever the boys are at grandma's house for awhile, they get used to doing pretty much whatever they want. When they get home they are pretty feisty. It takes about a week to get them back into shape. We call it Grandma detox. It's pretty intense. It probably ranks just below heroin withdrawal in severity. Hopefully, by this next week they will have gotten Grandma's house out of their system.

Baby Elaina

I don't really have time to write these days, but I wanted to post a few pictures of little Elaina. Evelyn can already say her name and LOVES her baby sister. The boys haven't seen much of her since they spent her first week of life at Grandma and Grandpa's (thank goodness for the break) and then have been at school this week. She is a typical baby. Her little eyes pop open for the first time of the day around 10 oclock at night just as I want to go to bed. And as Nathan says, "All she does is eat, sleep, poop."
