This post was originally called "The List of Very Extensive Mathematical Resources Dedicated to Number"

After a while, I will decide to shorten it to "Number Resources"

In class, the class have been introduced to pre-algebra concepts - properties of addition and multiplication. They adore these videos from the Why U Youtube channel. I always enjoy a collective laugh when the minions see to Cocolocians or the "original" names (thus, the inspiration for my post title).

Commutative and Associative Property of Addition

Commutative Property of Multiplication

Other videos focus on roman numerals, integers, number line, factors and improper fractions.

Now, I have to admit something. I am concerned about the minions' times tables facts. There are only a few who score well in our 25 Second Challenge each week - they have 25 seconds to write the answers to a times table I call out.

Intervention!!

We have been these upbeat, catchy videos from the Have Fun Teaching YouTube channel. It greatly works to their advantage because my class really enjoy singing and dancing. Without asking, most get up, dance along and even sing along once they get the words.

Hmmm, maybe our rockstar theme is rubbing off on them....

Counting by 3s

Counting by 11s

The only limitation I saw is that, because the songs are moreover for skip counting, it only reaches 10x /10x11. The songs are repetitive so I will sometimes stop them early. Besides that and the problematic issue of having the song stuck in my head for a while after, SOOOO GOOD!

The channel has videos for alphabet too.

The G Song

Hope you all have a lovely week. Stay safe xx

Taste the Rainbow

Do you US bloggers have the same Skittles tagline?

I'm joining the Let's Get Acquainted linky party, hosted by none other than the dear Latoya at Flying into First Grade. This week, we are playing the SKITTLES GAME. On your mark. Get set. GO!
Flying into First Grade

Here is the code:

Red- Favourite Ice Cream Flavor

Orange- Favourite Memory from College

Yellow- Favourite Sports Team

Green- Favourite Fast Food Place
Purple- Wild Card(Tell anything about yourself)
Red -
Coconut ice cream. My tropical, New Caledonian background could demolish a coconut ice cream factory. In my perfect world, there is such a beautiful thing.

Orange -
That whole year ago that I was in Uni?? Meeting my amazing sister from another mister, Kristy. She is an amazing friend. The type of friend who you have far too many personal, inside jokes which make no sense whatsoever to anyone but us.

We had some wacky assessment pieces that we presented throughout our time. For our Ethics course, we dressed up as Mario and Luigi, "levelling up" through our video game by analysing a case study to save Princess Peach. It was full of corny goodness. ....... You just had to be there...

Yellow -
I have already shared this here. My favourite team EVER is....... (*drumroll*) ... the Gryffindor Quidditch team.

Green -
Good old pizza hut. At the moment, super supreme with extra pineapple.

Purple -
I can't roll my tongue. Even after years of trying, and trying, and trying. Nope. Can't.

Did I win? Huh? Huh?
(It is a game after all.. Skittles GAME. Never mind, first week back crazies)

It's been a blast getting to know you fantastic bloggers.

Hope you have a lovely week.

Writer's Workshop - the beginnings

Before the start of the year, in between the madness of setting up the classroom and psyching myself up for my first term of teaching, I was relying very much on Pinterest for inspiration. Oh? You too? Yes, yes, yes. It is us bloggers' greatest strengths and deepest weakness.

Back to the start of year. I was really interested when I discovered Writer's Workshop and wanted to try it out for myself. Granted, I have not been able to implement it as ideally as it ought to. Did not predict how much I would be out of the room between PDs, planning days and mentoring sessions. Wowzah! First year teaching is full on!

I heavily based our Writer's Notebooks on Steph's from Apples of Your Eye. Genius. I love it. Check out her post Writer's Notebook Organization.

Here is what young Isabelle has been doing this term.

Title: Complete with a dedication. (Insert nawwww!)

Writing Ideas: Heart Map, Ideas for Writing, Authority List, Treasure Map and Memory Hand (Isabelle just needs the heading for her Memory Hand). This will serve as inspiration for the minions when writer's block hits. Hopefully this will reduce the "Miss D, I don't know what to write" levels.

I owe Steph for sharing her ideas so that determined yet lost teachers can have a crack at it.

Writers' VOICES: The back of our Writer's Notebooks is dedicated to our writing goals. We are going to be focusing on choosing a goal based on the six traits of writing. This is our intro to the six traits. As a whole class, the minions theorised which trait matched each analogy of the picture. This was yet again inspired by ANOTHER Pinterest discovery from Lindsay at My Life as a Third Grade Teacher and her post 6 Traits of Writing Flashback.

The minions then completed the top section explaining the analogies. It was a real insight to read these and see if they truly grasped the concept.

About the Author: Of course every serious writer needs to include an About the Author section so readers can find out more. We started by researching and analysing a few online About the Authors - Jeff Kinney and J.K. Rowling - and adding some notes in our Writer's Notebook

Using these notes and after I modelled my own version, the kiddies went ahead and wrote their own. Isabelle's is about to edit hers.

Hopefully this will lead in smoothly to our Biography unit in History.

Many blessings to you all xx

Currently April

Please excuse the double post... But I cannot miss out!

Presenting: My April Currently
(da-dada-DAAAAAA!)

Head on over to Oh Boy 4th Grade to visit Farley and join the Currently linky party.

Thoroughly enjoying holidays. Especially laying on the couch watching Hamish and Andy, just dreaming of getting up to the crazy shenanigans they do. I'm dying right now watching this.

My little brother, Tim, was in hospital since January 2nd (hence the lack of blogging). He went in with seizures and needed time to get him medically stable.

He JUST got out last weekend. WO-HOOOOO! Almost 3 months. Proud sister doesn't even begin to cover it.

Excited to read up on what you're all doing at the moment (thank you holidays!) xx

Happy Easter every BUNNY + Nice to Make Your Acquaintance

Did you see what I did there?? I know, I know. It's punny!

I have come to realise a simple truth now that I have officially completed my first term as a teacher. It is incredibly rejuvenating to have two days in a row sleeping in. Yes. Two. Sleep. Ins. It's the small things in life...

On our last day of school before Easter Holidays, we talked about puns. The minions made a list of puns to include in their Easter card for their buddies. They were quite proud.

We also made some chalk drawings of Easter eggs.

They did have a giggle when I showed them this:

Linky Time!!
