The Cabin

Dear Mom and Dad,

Thanks for building a cabin.

I love to go to the mountains and just do.... NOTHING. Yesterday I read a book. All. Day.

Oh I did pause to go to the bathroom and prepare a meal or two for the fan damily. But that's about it. I curled up on the couch and did not a thing. I just read.

Some people might call that lazy. Others would have taken the opportunity to go outside and build a fun snowman with the kids or take a freezing cold walk to enjoy nature... but no. After I did NOTHING all day. We went out for ice cream. In the 25 degree weather. WE ate ice cream cones.

Reminded me of my friend Jess when in the middle of winter were at the DQ getting our favorite blizzard or chocolate dipped vanilla cone and staying up at all hours of the night (on a school night) before cell phones were invented (was there ever such a time) and my mom couldn't get a hold of me. But it was fun. All those nights. All those talks. All those calories. Without all those pounds :).

Well anyway. Thanks mom and dad for letting me enjoy the fruits of your labors. It was awesome.

Love,

Me

PS thanks honey for tending the kids while I did NOTHING :)

Exhausted

So today I make 9 quarts of applesauce. Yes. That would seem like not very much.

And it is true. It wasn't very much. But it took me ALL. DAY. And like 30 pounds of apples. EEK!!

AND I had the two twins. AND I had my nephew. It was a ball.

And then I passed out on the couch at 830p until 11p.... and now I can't sleep. SO I am blogging.

Mother of the Year

So a few days ago I won Mother of the Year Award.
It was awesome.
Mikenna came home from school IN TEARS. She was so upset she didn't even come to me. She went to her dad.
She said (crying uncontrollably), "I had to eat peanut butter and jelly because I didn't have any money in my account."
Yes. I win.
But seriously. My friend over at
A Daily Scoop
TOTALLY really won! Check it out :)

Pictures say a thousand words

Mikenna is now is first grade. I should have put up more of a fight for her to be in second grade but when she entered kindergarten, it was the year that Daxton died and I just didn't have the fight in me... so she is the OLDEST member of her class.

Hopefully this will behoove her in later years as she is smarter better faster and more together than her classmates. It is also going to torture her AND I when she is here ONE YEAR longer at home.... and I am going to LOVE every minute of it :).

Anyhow, the other day she came home and was so excited that she had a library book.... And this is what she showed me:

NICE....

I had her read it in her head. I didn't want her to wonder why I was laughing hysterically at her.

Oh and I got a new look. I think it is more of a midlife crisis or something. It is something I can control in a world of uncontrollable things. I didn't do it for the "new year." In fact, I did it a few days after Thanksgiving. And I had given it A LOT of thought before that day. Almost a year in fact. I haven't been my "natural" color for 15 years... so I don't really know what it is anymore. I suppose "natural" is what I have been. What works for me. But whatever.

The night before I called my hair dresser and said, "I think I want to go dark. Dark OR short." She said, "I am not going to chop off your hair." And so... we ended up with this:

You like?

My family looked at me weird for a few days and Doug said, "It looks like I have a new wife... is that bad?" I think he liked it... or maybe he just wanted a new wife without REALLY getting a new wife :).
