A little nervous

So, I had my second hockey game playing goalie last night. I play for a B leauge team. We won our first game and this was our second. I enjoy playing goalie, but it also makes me a little nervous as times. I am sorta the last line of defense. So, when I see the puck coming in the air or on the ice I keep telling myself "Ok, you gotta stop this" So last night did not start the best, I was scored on first. It was a deflection so I did not have much of a chance, but not a good start to be down in the first period 0-1. Fortunatly, my team is pretty good on defense, so I do not get a ton of chances against me. My team scored later in the period and so that took some of the pressure off. As the game went on, it was towards the end of the third period and we were up 4-3 (thats right, I was scored on 2 more times, one was a breakaway, and the other...well I just cannot rememeber it...) and as we were under 2 minutes in the 3rd period and only up by 1 goal I began to say to my self "please let the puck stay down on their end, please let the puck stay down on their end, please let the puck..." I did not want to be the reason we went into overtime. Thankfully, we scored again and so we ended up winning 5-3. Whew........... Now I just need to get some more practice in before next week, not that practice will help with the stress, but it helps me feel like I am better than I really am :)

Back home

So, we are back in the swing of things. For me it took almost two weeks to recover from the jet lag and going back to work in full swing. It was really a great trip and Chris and I had such a great time. But it also nice to just be at home. We live in such a pretty spot that it is almost like a vacation every day.

It is funny how being far away reminds me how little control we have over our lives. Here we were, thousands of miles away from those we love, an ocean apart, and I kept hearing a little voice in the back of my head (more than normal:)) tell me that I need to make my life count for what matters, because every day is a gift. I pray I will...

Start them young

Start them young

Here you see the whole crew enjoying a movie on the mac. Good job bro, way to start them young..

A man with a plan...

A man with a plan...

So here you can see Micah planning out a play for the football match with the other siblings. I notice two things about this photo. One, that the defending team seen in the background, does not seem too tough. In fact, it took several minutes of coaxing to get them to rejoin the game. Second, in spite of this fact, Micah is crafting an extremely detailed plan with multiple points of start and stop and several pump fakes. Sadly, Margot cut left instead of right and ended up dropping the ball, but in a sign of Micahs wisdom, a dropped ball does not mean the play stops, just pick up the ball and keep on running. Margot scored a touchdown.

Snow Shoe in the mountains

Snow Shoe in the mountains

So here is a picture of Micah and I snowshoeing in the hills. It was
great fun and nice weather. And look, Micah is smiling!

Boys and their toys

Boys and their toys

Well Elliot is already picking up the slack in the Mattix household
while Micah is at work. Here he is seen with his favorite toy...a
plunger... Yes you heard me right, a plunger...he walks around the
house using it as a sword. Who needs toys when their are so many
bathroom toys to explore..

A taste of swiss espresso...

A taste of swiss espresso...

So this espresso may look fine to the untrained eye, but I am so glad I
came. My work here has just begun....This swiss espresso from (it
pains me just to type it) pods...just does not have the body and
strength I was hoping for....So, my time here will be one of
instruction and guidance, but well worth the investment...

In switzerland with technical difficulties

So, we are in swizerland now and all is well. We slept well last night and we are just hanging out now. For some reason my blog seems to be having a mind of its own. I email my posts in and they seem to be showing up DAYS late. But do not worry, I will be able to overcome this minor glitch. Check back soon for some pictures and for the espresso review of Micahs coffee

So we are at the airport enjoying our last taste of American beef at Fridays. We made it into the terminal and have some time before our plane leaves.

National Gallery of Art

So today we went and spent about 4 hours at the national gallery of art. It was a lot of fun. Chris and I really enjoy looking at all the art. Then we went by the FBI building and then to starbucks. Now we are waiting for the metro and then it is off to the airport to fly to London. The only question is if we can find high speed Internet in London.......

So now we are off to the Smithsonian and the national gallery of art for some paintings and lunch.

A little worried....

So Chris and I leave to go to Switzerland in a couple of days, and to be honest I am a little worried.... Not about the trip or the plane ride, but more about the quality of their espresso....you see, our machine has been putting out some pretty fine espresso as of late, mainly due the burr grinder and cup a joe coffee. Now my brother Micah uses pods, and though they may be good in a pinch, they are nothing like a fresh grind. I thougt about staying home, but then I would miss out on helping my brother become a better steward of his machine. Yes, I am an espresso snob my wife tells me, and proud of it.......
